Magical Muskeeter could have REALLY used a simple ROTA-like spell. Even if it was hard once per turn and had no additional effects it would have done wonders for the consistency of this deck, but Konami decided not to do that for some reason. Maybe the card designers really overestimated how consistent they were going to be? Would not be the first gross design mistake they've made. Meanwhile around the same period of time, Salamangreats got their own archetypal ROTA + the generic cynet mining, and Sky Strikers got freaking Engage.
@@cameraredeye3115 konami's card design seems to be that they actually are happy to make decks overpowered, so that people buy cards to chase the meta, and then Konami can just use the banlist to fix the mess later, all while making a tidy profit. Though it seems like for every archetype/deck they intentionally make overpowered, they introduce two archetypes that are obviously weak, and they provide insufficient legacy support to three more archetypes that have been unplayable at anywhere except low-power-level locals. Gotta have lots of pack filler, after all!
Hey so fun fact, this episode has a major ruling issue! Mqgical Muskets activate their effects on resolution of the S/T, not in chain to it, so the play at 13:15 is not doable. Fortunately he only had Max game 2 and and he bricked game 3 so it only came up in a game he lost.

I absolutely love the Magical Musketeer cards before English translation transition. The cards had names like: Dead Man's Burst, Devil Deal, Never-Endorphin, truly a shame but understandable.
It's also worth noting that Nekroz got hit by alot of the crossfire in the TOSS meta. People were playing Anti-Spell Fragence to stop Sky Striker. Thunder Dragon Colossus basically shut down all the searching Nekroz is know for. Not to mention all 4 Toss decks could easily out a Unicorn without their extra; either by battle or by their many removal cards.
I played a very similar nekroz list at a regional during the list widow anchor went to 1 and had to play 3 thunder dragon matches in a row. Won all 3 thanks to ruler, super poly, and better resource management when it came down to a grind game. The last one I 2-0d them in less than 10 minutes, double colossus pass when you open super poly makes for an easy otk.

I played casually and my main trick was Zaborg the Megamonarch (Using Impcantations as tributes) nuke the opponent's extra, while sending 3X Herald, Omega and some combination of Toads & Nt'ss. You go like +5 and cock slap the good half of their extra deck but it is not the most consistent.
Hope we get a short look at Traptrix. Some think that the deck only became playable upon the release of the SD, but Sera on release was so monstrously powerful that she almost by herself made the deck a regional-level threat for a few months

I feel like this series would have a lot fewer illegal plays if they realised that a trigger effect only activates on the same chain it's triggered if it's a quick effect. The Doc effect in game 1 would not trigger in the trishula chain, causing the trishula to resolve and get rid of the doc before it can activate.
Why isn't this an episode of Jank? I don't remember Nekroz topping post-Striker. And Magical Musket only ever bubelled during this period if I remember right.
Maybe a quick-play that stays on the field, akin to the old pseudo-continuous spells of the DM era, that allows you to search a Musket card once per turn?
@@strangevol5264technically all spells muskets have are Quick play and even if they were normal spells they would still practically function as Quick plays without the added restriction of not.beeing activatable the turn it is set due to how muskets work.
I mean, they have a Link-1 monster that would be worthy of an instant ban if it were generic. That and Ties of the Brethren lets you turbo out more monsters quickly so it's not hard to make the Link-1 and still have crazy high output....
A spell or trap that lets you draw two would go a long way, a kaiju-like monster would go a long way too, a link2 that would facilitate otks would be nice as well (we do get the mini goddess I know but im talking non splashable in archetype monsters)
God, I hate this deck. People hate Psy-Frames but they have their outs. You can normally resource manage to burn through their negates, banish their Drivers, get into an interesting grind game. Magical Musketeer replenishes it's hand and actively puts you on a clock. I'm not saying Psy-Frames don't deserve the hate but I've never had a fun duel against Magical Musketeer.
Love Muskets, but they really are just worse runicks. In my builds I usally put one Satan and one double atk def to beat indestructible monsters or finish games quicker after clearing
The best version of Muskets was Zefra Endymion Musket Control. Pendulum Scales could proc your Muskets, and Servant could leave the scale immediately to clear that Spell/Trap Zone for next turn plays.
Tried this version and tbh this is something I can see cimoo playing. At the time I was playing both of these, even took.both to ycs London with a friend piloting the pendulums. The 2 combimed together tho were just a wet Dream. See thing was adding pendulums in ment you had to play over 50 cards with a deck that is wildly inconsistent at 40. Thats why most.of us opted for.the going.second build with toon table, red reboot, drnm and evenly in the main deck while playing a 45 card deck with 3 desires. You needed to go over 40.because.you play desires and pretty much all other cards are 3 offs besides toon cydra and zakiel calamity and wild. There were some cards that really.helped the deck afterwards but nothing really stuck and untill they get a nice custom treatment they will not go above tier3
@@weedhigh2564 yeah, it was a glass cannon build. The good thing was less chance to draw the musket spell/traps in the 50~ card deck, because you were specifically aiming for just caspar or starfire. Obviously pendulums always had their own issues by default. Having any of the combinations of zefraath/servant/caspar was practically an auto win button though. The techs to summon Abductor off of servant also allowed for rank 3 and rank 4 plays with a single starfire.

Magical musketeers is still one of my favorite decks. With Ultimate Slayer and adding in Link Into the Vrains makes the deck a lot stronger but sadly consistency is still an issue... Pot of Prosperity is def a blessing
there was a brew going around that used Runick for more utility on Master Duel that was pretty good, and then Konami pretty much immediately put Fountain to 1, killing the engine. :(
Dude, Nekroz (Necloth) has come a long way. I remember when they were originally released in the OCG. No joke, I was lobbying against players using broken banned and anime cards in YGO PRO... And I was beating them with day 1 Nekroz! At the time, I thought, "Damn, this is so broken, we can't go any further with powercreep than this"..... And I was wrong.

I remember this year so vividly. I'm a die hard nekroz fan, and so many cards came off the list that year. Sadly I never had the ability to go to events at the time, but I remember destroying online player base with a nearly identical list.
God I love ritual tool box, I played Dracoverlord and Chaos Max in it! I also played a Scared Phoenix version with Nekroz and it could do so some crazy recursion to just keep going
You can't say "since duelist alliance every took is looking to OTK" when every single duelist alliance deck plus the qli and nekroz (which you are playing) that came after it aren't looking to OTK.

Muskets need some crazy lore related custom spell that forcibly sticks itself on the field until all 7 "musket" counters get used, and it then just ups and ends the game in a flashy explosion.
This really should have been an episode of History of Jank, Magical Muskets is HOT garbage. This particular build of Nekroz is very cool though, glad to see it get some shine.
So the musket deck puts the timeline around sometime after the 2019 mega tins but before chaos impact (could be wrong but im fairly sure i dont see any chaos impact cards), so he has randomly gone past battles of legend heros revenge and the mega tins for some reason

You don't want them being TOO consistent or they'd be banned. That's why Konami didn't do it with this archetype.
