WoW! More great tips. 🤗I am definitely going to try the I-cord starting chain seems pretty neat, 😍 One thing I do that is sort of crochet related...more like project related...I'm like a lot of crocheters, I think, usually have 3 WIPs 🙄...I try to not have more than that. I use 2 gallon ZipLoc bags along with a scented dryer sheet to store my work. The 2 gallon size will hold a large skein (10 oz/283 g) at least and the project...for me it's usually a scarf or hat. The dryer sheet keeps the yarn smelling fresh. I live in Florida, USA and we are humid and hot for 8-9 months of the year where I am. The ZipLoc helps to keep the humidity out, too. Most of my work is charity related and often I send the projects ( 3-4 scarfs will fit in one ZipLoc) in the ZipLoc with the dryer sheet, so the scarfs stay nice if they are stored at the charity. I love your tips...they make so much sense and are easy to use.😘 Thank you for the links, too. 🤗
Lovely that you make things for charity! That sounds like a good idea to keep your WIPs from becoming damp. Here in Finland the problem is the opposite, air is super dry especially in winter and summer and in homes that are heated 24/7!
Along similar lines as the dryer sheet, when blocking my work, I've started spritzing my work with the scented distilled water you put in irons to make your ironing smell fresh! I initially started doing it for items I've gifted because who doesn't love that fresh laundry smell 🥰
Thanks Tuula, I want to remember all these tips and will try your magic ring next time. I enjoy making my work look more advanced than as a beginner. Enjoy your weekend ❣️💐
2:15 if you turn so as to put the yarn in front you will actually create and even neater edge. I especially love this for double crochet. Turn, yarn is in front, make a stacked sc instead of a dc. Continue pattern as normal. Perfect edges every time.
Yes, stacked sc work well although for dc straight edges I don't use it, I prefer having 2 dc together at the last stitch, also creates a perfect edge.
Such valuable tips. I also take pictures of projects I’m working or have worked in the same way you do. I save them in an album within my photos and access them from there. I do need save them in a more secure spot. 🥰
Because I have several projects on the go, I keep each one in a clear bag or container--zippered duvet or sheet set bags are great! I keep an index card with each project that names the pattern, the yarn, and the hook size. I will also keep the paper copy of the project pattern with it if it has one. I find the index card is a better immediate reference than my phone.
Great tips! I use most of those tips, but I've never done sc without the ch 1 at the start of the row, so I'll try that! 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
Two of the tricks you have taught me that are my favourites. 1. When crocheting a foundation row, put a stitch marker every 20 stitches. Wonderful, now I never loose track. 2. They way you do your magic ring. Always too confusing for me before. Now I easily do it! Thanks Tuula.
I also discovered the ‘no chain’ turn on a single crochet , but as I very rarely do borders I didn’t know about it being harder when doing a border. Good tip, thank you.❤️
I don't think I've been crocheting long enough to introduce new tips, but something I tend to do is use a red stitch marker for the last stitch (red for stop) and I mark the first stitch with a marker the same colour as the hook I am using, or a colour closest to it, in case I forget or didn't write the hook size down. I also mark every 20 stitches, often with a colour closely matching the yarn. I know, it's a bit 'extra', and I also keep a notebook, but at a glance this works for me 🥰🧶
Oh feeling so chuffed that I instinctively did some of the same things, ie the extra chain at the end, the slipknot on the needle. *struts off with extra swagger*
1:50 I learned to crochet when I was a kid and when I picked it back up as an adult I always turned this way, I am not sure if that’s how learned or how I assumed it was done when I picked it back up. Sometimes I just flip the hook into the other side of the loop.
These are great tips, Tuula! Your magic ring is easier than how I have been doing it, I need to buy some locking stitch markers so I can mark the 20th, that's so much better! And I didn't know the single crochet straight edge tip or the cord!
Thank you for sharing these tips! The i cord one is something I need to try soon. I'm still crocheting my granny square fingerless mittens... the squares look nice and neat, however the ribbing, top and bottom, needs some practice. It's the first thing I've ever made, so I'm pleased with it 😊
Great tips, thanks! I’ve never done the cord so that’s a new one for me, and marking every 20 chains is too, I think that’ll come in handy for marking rows as well. Take care! 💕
Hi Tuula! Really enjoyed the tips, especially the last one. I have a tendency to lay a project down for some time. Always forget the hook I'm using. I'll will definitely make that a habit. Thank you for the video.
Lovely! I have learned the hard way to keep track, I also at times lay projects down for a long time and then spend a lot of time trying to remember what hook it was, at times frogging some and trying with different hooks!!
Thank you! I didn't go into details about finishing the magic ring in this video but have in a couple of longer ones. I normally weave in so that first I go around inside the same stitches, then under one loop before going at least half way back in the opposite way, then it is very secure. Depends a bit on the yarn and what use it is for.
I need help. I was crocheting with a 5 mm hook, then changed it to a 5.5mm. I noticed my blanket went bigger on top, and the side went wider. What happened.
Changing the hook to a larger hook size reduces the tension on the yarn and makes your stitches slightly larger. This is referred to as adjusting gage. If you want your piece to be even you would have to rip out the previous work and go back to using the 5mm hook.
I use all of these that you just showed except for the phone so I'll have to start doing that. But I also use how to change colors and you don't have to weave in the ends. I can't remember what it's called but you nod it so tight. There's no way that sucker's coming out
Phone is handy! I think I know the tip you are referring to. I don't have on my channel because I never use knots in yarn Just goes against the softness that I want to keep.
I love these videos! More TERRIFIC tips! I always learn from you. Thank you for sharing 🧡
Thank you so much!
No such thing as too many tips videos! I always enjoy these.
Tip videos certainly get far more people watching than individual project videos!
I've learned SO much from your channel. I'm glad I found it.
Thank you so much, happy to hear!

@@openorwap5412 What a smart idea 🙂 I might have to steal it. 😉
@gretchenchristophel1169 Sharing is caring! 🥰🫧🧶
Thanks Tuula, these are really useful.
I use most of these tips, they do make crocheting easier. I’ll definitely start using the phone!
Wonderful! Yes, the phone os useful for so many things!
I used your magic ring technique all the time! :D x
That's great!
Thanks Tuula, I want to remember all these tips and will try your magic ring next time. I enjoy making my work look more advanced than as a beginner. Enjoy your weekend ❣️💐
Great, we can always learn more no matter how long or short time we have been crocheting! Have a great weekend too!
@ exactly and I’ve been crocheting on and off for more than 50 years 🤪
I’m glad techniques have improved over the years

Lovely! Yes, it's worth having everything somewhere outside the phone as well!
I’m always excited to see your tips. They are always so helpful and i can improve my crochet by using your tips.
Happy to hear!

Great, try that! Greetings from snowy Finland!

You’re my most trusted crochet person
Lovely to hear, thank you!
Super Tipps. Vielen Dank 🫶🥰
Danke!
I also discovered the ‘no chain’ turn on a single crochet , but as I very rarely do borders I didn’t know about it being harder when doing a border. Good tip, thank you.❤️
Yes, I noticed it once when starting a border - harder to get the hook through because the smooth edge is slightly tighter!
Always love your tips and use many of them often, I really like the icord you talked about…God bless❤️🌼
Lovely, thank you, you too!

Using different colour markers sounds useful, haven't heard that before!
Thanks for the tips, Tuula, I’ll be sure to use them!
That's great!
Thanks for the i-cord tip. Hope you enjoy a cup of coffee or tea along the way. 😊
Thank you so much! Happy crocheting!
I love the idea of photographing the work details!
I never know when you're going to surprise me with a tip or method. Of the 5 in this presentation, it was the i-cord. Thank you so much.
Glad the i-cord tip was useful!
Good Morning 🤗 Very useful tips, I’ve used your magic ring since I saw it. Always glad to see what you have to teach us. Have a great week🥰
Thank you so much, have a great week too!
Thanks, interesting video❣️I will try the I cord beginning for my next crocheting tonight 👍
Great, happy crocheting!
Thanks so much for your tips You’re videos are the very best, I watch them all the time. Thanks again Tuula
Lovely, thank you so much!
Thank you for the tips
Thank you Tuula.
Oh feeling so chuffed that I instinctively did some of the same things, ie the extra chain at the end, the slipknot on the needle. *struts off with extra swagger*
Great tips! I love the one that u take picture of the project and the harness and hook. I will most definitely use that one. Thanks so much! ❤❤

Glad there were useful tips there! You can also just use pieces of yarn, hair clips, paper clips or anything, don't need to buy actual stitch markers!
Thanks! I always learn something new from you. ❤
So glad to hear!
Thank you for sharing these tips! The i cord one is something I need to try soon.

Lovely that you have made your first project and are happy with it! A start to a rewarding hobby
Thank you ❤ They're a bit big but I'm proud of them. I'm excited to start something else now! Will be watching lots of your videos to help me 🤗
Great tips, thanks! I’ve never done the cord so that’s a new one for me, and marking every 20 chains is too, I think that’ll come in handy for marking rows as well. Take care! 💕
Great, all the best!

great tips.Never used magic ring how secure is it please

Use the same hook size for your entire project.
Changing the hook to a larger hook size reduces the tension on the yarn and makes your stitches slightly larger. This is referred to as adjusting gage. If you want your piece to be even you would have to rip out the previous work and go back to using the 5mm hook.
@KDM__19 Thank you. New at this. But I love it.
Like others have said, you would need to keep the same size for the whole project - bigger hook means bigger stitches. Happy crocheting!
