I had to take a dremel to the front locking lip of polymer Bulgarian mags. They were a bit too wide, but i just went really slow with it, and took very tiny amounts off at a time, until it fit nice and snug.
I've generally never been a fan of filing mags. Unless it is purely a magazine issue (in which case it should be filed) or an issue with compatibility (like some Yugo mags), then it is an issue with the rifle and it should be set right regardless. Ime a lot of the time it has to do with the length of the mag release tab being too long with certain AKs. I would 100% file the tab if that is the issue. And there is no such thing as permanently altering the weapon system, not really. You can permanently alter a part, but at worst you will need to replaced (drilled and re-riveted), or have a smith do it for you. Something which can easily be avoided unless you go at it like a meth head. If you are slow and careful it's not rocket science. If necessary, *I use marking blue* to see where something is hanging up where it shouldn't be and then slowly and gently file. It's tedious but worth it.
@GetmeoutofSanFrancisco Everything you've stated here is spot on correct. My Croatian-Yugo pattern AK had fitment issues. And it was the locking tab being a bit off center. I could feel it as it engaged the magazine rear lug. I filed the locking tab, and I have had no issues. All my magazines fit now, including Bulgarian polymer and steel. Nothing wrong with filing the locking tab on the rifle. Just take it slow, and be patient, and only file what is necessary to lockup, even if it's tight. Go to the range and test fire, then file a bit more to make all magazines have just a small amount of give but still fitting snug, but not tight. And now it's perfectly set where it needs to be.
Why so many dislikes? One of the only videos on UA-cam going over the fit of different mags in PSA’s picky ass AK mag wells. Gonna try some metal KCIs as well as stock up on more pmags now because pmags have functioned flawlessly in both of my aks without any adjustments. I know this is an old video but I noticed everyone's saying never modify the rifle itself and instead the mags, and I get that but... Would modifying the mags make them not fit in other AK's or is the tolerance tight enough that it doesn't introduce more slop in non-PSA AK's? Also, couldn't you just file down the mag release ever so slightly? That would at least be the cheapest thing to replace if it ends up being shoddy. Or is the issue with the actual dimensions of the mag well?
@@jeerrrrrrryyyyy AC are mostly for range use and to play around for paint experiments, lol. I won't use them for SHTF. I wish we could load pics to share.
Same here. Croatian mags fit my AK 103 and my AK-P from PSA. Funny it didn't fit yours. I bought my Croatian mags unissued at the PSA store. Maybe that made a difference?? This video is awesome info by the way!
I had to file the Croatian mags to get them to work on Romarm/WASR pattern rifles. Still will not work in my GF3. But they fit and worked without modification in a VSKA, Bulgarian Arsenal, and a Hungarian FEG. After filing they are now wobbly in the VSKA but functional. Magpul mags fit my GF3 like they were made for it specifically the only others in my collection that fit the GF3 are steel KCI, and they are super tight. US palm also does not fit my GF3. It's by far the pickiest AK for mags that I've owned.
So what is the solution to fitting those mags into the rifle? Filing on the inside latch that locks on the rear bill of the mag? Can you post a video on that or point us in the right direction, thanks man. Just got a psa gf3 and it won't accept any mag besides magpul mags.
The center support rivet placement is the particular cause for the fitment concerns on this example.
I use KCIs metal, Bulgarian (poly reinforced lips and lugs and the full metal), Pmag and AC-Unity with my PSAK GF3. No problems yet.
Good I’m glad to hear that. How do you like the AC-Unity magazines so far?
@@jeerrrrrrryyyyy AC are mostly for range use and to play around for paint experiments, lol. I won't use them for SHTF. I wish we could load pics to share.
have you found any drums to work on the psa gf3
Honestly this one is the only one that I have tried.

Hey Tommy
Oh Bakelite mags are awesome!!!

Happy holidays to you and your family Tommy!
I use magpul MOE as the Gen 3 won't work on my Palmetto.
On your bolt hold open that don’t fit did u have your bolt back because they won’t lock in if the bolt not back check it when u can let me know thanks
I will check.
I have a PSA ak 103 and the Croatian mags fit fine in mine.
That’s a good thing. That means that your center support rivet is in the correct location.
Same here. Croatian mags fit my AK 103 and my AK-P from PSA. Funny it didn't fit yours. I bought my Croatian mags unissued at the PSA store. Maybe that made a difference?? This video is awesome info by the way!
@@PD722 Thank you Brother!
Yeah, you’re definitely not the only person expecting this issue.
The nice part is you know what works and what doesn’t.
100% seems to have been made to fit magpul mags.
Can you file the Croatian ones to fit the PSA? I just got one and haven’t filed yet
Yup Croatian BHO AK magazine fix
ua-cam.com/video/pS2PIVK9Pe4/v-deo.html
So what is the solution to fitting those mags into the rifle? Filing on the inside latch that locks on the rear bill of the mag? Can you post a video on that or point us in the right direction, thanks man. Just got a psa gf3 and it won't accept any mag besides magpul mags. Wish I had known this before buying up a bunch of other brand mags online.
Here you go suq. ua-cam.com/video/pS2PIVK9Pe4/v-deo.html
You can also return your rifle to PSA, and they will fix the issue.
My kci mags won't lock up, about a 1/16 in shy, the back of mag is hitting the crossbar where the auto sear would sit
You can do this. ua-cam.com/video/pS2PIVK9Pe4/v-deo.html
@@jeerrrrrrryyyyy I've got to get to my dad's shop and use his tools to take a little off the back of the mag. I'll be happy to check out the link. Thanks
Thanks for making this video. Quick question............how does that folding pistol brace handle the recoil of the 7.62X39 round ? I know its made mostly of rubber. I'm truing to decide on the version you have or the SBA3 brace. Thanks.
I have no issues with that brace. The upper part has a hard plastic center.
Has PSa done something about this already. When a number of different mags don't fit, it's a rifle problem..
I’d like to know because I just ordered a G5 and now I’m looking at all these different mags 😳 what the hell….
Can someone tell me why these don’t fit? Is it the small tab in the back of the mag that doesn’t lock in? Seems like a pretty easy fix
Center support rivet placement.
4:50 those Bulgarian mags will not work with my PSA ak47 gen 3 even with filing.
Send it back to PSA. It sounds like the center support rivet needs attention.
Magpul m3 steel reinforced work on mine. But are much tighter, making reloads harder.
Good information mrbig thank you. Can you tell if it’s the center support rivet making it a tight fit?
The Croatian mags work fine in my PSAK-P
Awesome! That means your center rivet was placed correctly.
Own a Gen 3 PSAK 47 and the Croat mags will NOT fit. The rear of mag is making contact with the cross rivet in mag well...gonna do some file work on the mag and see what happens
Yeah, watch this Video: Croatian BHO AK magazine fix
Palmetto has two versions of Croatian mags. One stamped "made in Croatia" and one that doesn't. What version did you receive ?
@@Soli_Deo_Gloria_. The ones that are marked made in Croatia.
The mags are un stamped and from Primary Arms not PSA
You've got a great channel here. I'm glad Cav sent me over.
Well thank you Brother! I appreciate the support! CAV is awesome!
What type of file would you use? Also would you sand it afterwards?
Any type of file should work for you as long as it is sharp. Sanding is up to you.
Omg thank you so much friend. This video helped me so much Rock on brother!
Thank you very much for checking it out!
For my ps akp, the magpul that shipped with the gun fit while empty but once loaded it really has to be forced in then it becomes impossible to chamber a round. Xtac mags and the new us palm are tight fits but work and they get better over time. The worse part is getting them out.
Aaron Davalos well that’s interesting. How many rounds are in the mag-pul? And does downloading by one round make the problem go away?

I have two Romanian aks, they run best with eastern euro metal mags! Snug fit.✌️
I got a KCI drum that wobbled non stop, noticed the front lip on it is super small which is likely the reason.

Is that the magpul moe that comes with the psak? Thank u
Subbed brother. Getting an AKP this week
Congratulations! That's awesome! Thank you.
Don't file the side of a TAPCO file the rear locking tab just a little.
Croatian mags don't fit my milled Yugo at all or my Chinese milled Poly Tech.
You'er right about the Tapco mags. The Croatian mags don't fit? maybe this will help. ua-cam.com/video/pS2PIVK9Pe4/v-deo.html
It seems there's a difference between the PSA akp and ak47. Croatia mags fit my AK 47 like a glove.
They probably are different.
@@jeerrrrrrryyyyy on FB PSA ak47 page it's a mixed experience from 1 PSA AK to the next. Some say all mags work some say none worked until they filed the mag catch or each magazine.
@@painter4769 yeah I can imagine. It seems that they “PSA” are not using a specific jig to build them.
I guess I'm just lucky, I have about 40 AK mags, all com-bloc and China from E. Germany, Romania, Yugo, Hungary etc and have yet to have a mag not lock in. I do not own any polymer or bakalite mags so whatever thats worth. I just like the steel magazines but they are getting hard to find and expensive now unless they are Croatian.
Great video thank you. Helped me out.
No problem John, thanks for checking the video out.
Anyone know of the KCI mags fit the GEN 2 PSA KS47 (AR that runs 762 with a modified bolt and lower)? Found some steel mags for a great price but don’t want buy them if they won’t work - they state Korean mags work but heard some people had issues with them
I’m not 100 percent sure on that one. Please let us know if they fit.
Where does everyone buy their magazines? I need a decent website that has a lot of options
there are a bunch of places to find them, but I recommend supporting your local brick and mortar stores.
They don't have many options. Mostly magpul magazines. I'm looking for Bulgarian or Romanian mags but can only find ones from places I've never heard of before
@@samdiegidio7993 Try searching with duck duck go. They both come up right away.
Romanian are $29.00 for a two pack.
Bulgarian 5 pack for $69.00.
They all are in stock right now.
I just picked up my PSA GF3 side folder today. Drove out to my dads house where he has shooting range. I only brought a bunch of magpul mags since I had them already loaded up and was just gunna plink around. The magpul mags just barley click in, the lock up is tight as heck. I had 1 Romanian surplus steel mag on me and it will not lock in or even get close. Gun is beautiful and I was so stoked when I picked it up. But seeing that the only surplus mag I brought with me doesn’t even work disappoints me. I’ll wait til I get home to test the rest, but all my surplus ak mags are the same cheap Romanian style ones that are everywhere so I’m having doubts that all my mags will work and gotta buy all new mags. Hopefully the KCI mags will fit mine as well like this vid, because they are 9.99 a pop
Josh Domoslai you can return it and let PSA know what the problem is.
I have a video that shows how you can modify the Croatian magazine to fit. This information might help you.
ua-cam.com/video/pS2PIVK9Pe4/v-deo.html
Switchpod thanks!!! I own several AKs, never had issues with mag fitment so this is all new to me. Found a smooth back chinese mag that clicks in nice. I think I’ll just try to buy mags that fit from the get go, or modify mags I have and keep them designated for this gun. I would rather not deal with returning it, especially since everything is out of stock durring this panic buy over the covid virus.
So the mags that fit the ak pistol fit the ak47 rifle ?
All depends on where the center support rivet is placed in the receiver when it’s built and what type of magazines are used.
Good info!
Thank you CJ!

The new style (metal insert) magpul AK mags don’t fit my gf3, but the original magpuls do

I dont think they fit in any AK off the shelf. At least in my WASR & WBP. You have to file the rear locking tab bit by bit until it fits.
We’re not allowed magazines like that in Canada, so I can help you identify them 👍

@@jeerrrrrrryyyyy if I bubba up the mag and file the ridge just below the feed lips they go in pretty nice . But it is due to the pin you mention. Pmags took way less convincing to fit proper . Found some old pro mags in a box and they fit perfect , but they are pro mags.

Hrmm....I've the exact same rifle (down to the red wood). I've the same Tapcos (3E207). They fit. They actually latch in place without effort.
I've the Croatian BHOs as well. Those don't latch in the PSAK. They'll latch and feed with my SAM7UF. They will latch but won't feed in my AMD-63.
Hey Ron! It all depends on where the center support river is placed, or at least on mine that’s what gets in the way with that “cage code” a quick hit with a file and they all fit. I’m glade you got one that didn’t need any modifications to use your magazines!
My KCI Gen 2 doesn't fit my PSAK47GF3. I'm confused needless to say lol

Ooo Oooo can’t go wrong with a WASR-10. It’s a good entry level AK that won’t fall apart.
I've worked on and build aks for a long time that gun needs to see the factory again or a kalashnismith. Aks can not like some mags i.e. plastic or steel or counties but not with such a wide range of mags like this seems like the mag catch/trigger guard is out of spec.
