Oh Tom, I've been looking forward to you reviewing this for AGES!! Glad to see you both liked it! I've barely used Doomsday/Pioneers as they're a lot to think about, but I'll think about including Doomsday more for those who have played it. B sides definitely but not for time tiles, that's too much and un-necessary. Love this game though - my top game of 2017!
Equally surprised this hasn't been reviewed sooner! Good to see the review at last (edit: although I think it's becoming remarkably less available these days, so maybe a little sooner would have been useful for others. I have it, so I'm all good!)
The other side of the time tiles actually gives the "bidding" phase some meaning. It's great to bluff and figure out who's going to bid something or risk getting those red spaces. I cannot think of another way to play this game. You should definitely try it out.
Very late to comment, but the triangle is a series of Penrose Triangles. An impossible object that cannot really exist in our world (outside of very distorted versions, or ones that only work from one specific angle) and as such it's perfect for the representation of this game.
We just played Trickerion last night after a while and realised it's a game with more depth out of the two. Everybody loved it more than Anachrony. Really surprised Dice Tower didn't like Trickerion.
Glad you liked it. I would recommend giving alternate timelines another chance. They add a lot, including player interaction, by doing very little. I will never play without them.
Visiting from the year 2021, I’m so glad you’ve stopped pouring all the contents on the table and have started just panning the camera over the components 😅
:O you don't like the box cover? The impossible triangle and the background is nice and simple, communicates the principle of anachronisms, and doesn't oversell. Gotta say, I love it! The sheer size of that box does the rest of the selling for those concerned about the box cover art. But hey, just one gals opinion
This is a game that had the perfect recipe for me to like it, but I was introduced to the game with a player who had way too much AP. What should have been a 2-2.5 hour experience ended up taking almost 4 hours. I have a sour taste in my mouth because of this. I think I'd enjoy it more if I were to try it again.
She liked Eurogames from the start imho :) But she's not a child anymore, I guess that's what you implied (and it's true ofc). Glad to have her on board regularly :)
Stefan Lopuszanski Yeah, but that's what I meant - that was six or seven years ago when she was around 9/10. A child, clearly. You can't expect her to grock stuff like Fields of Arle at this age. But the moment she was old enough to play them, she loved Eurogames - at least that is her picture on the DT videos since then. But maybe we are watching different channels? ;D Or the transitional phase seemed longer for you (and lying not so far in the past).
There is also the Doomsday Module. The only thing you can't get at retail is the "Leader box" which contains all modules/minis (which you can get all that separately through retail) etc as well as a box sleeve.
I'm not a minis person, but honestly the only reason I purchased the expansion was for them. Doh! I've not really used any of the expansions because I don't have a stable gaming group - more of an FLGS community guy here, and we don't get it out often enough for people to be ready for the expansions
the game is a lot tighter and a lot more vying for space in the 4 player version. It depends whether you prefer that or just want to be able to do your own thing with minimal inteference.
I enjoyed my play of it but felt that the dice rolls could be REALLY swingy if you get unlucky (like getting multiple double paradox while another person gets none). I wish there was a way to mitigate that more. Overall, I did enjoy the game (like a 7 or so) and it is definitely one I want to play again as the worker placement aspect feels very fresh and the overall game tells an interesting story and paints a very unique world.
Yes, I would highly recommend playing with the variant. I don't even get it why the dice roll is there to begin with, it doesn't add almost anything good to the experience. Regardless, great game!
Great video. Melody has such a great presence in these reviews. Way to Melody! Thanks Tom good review.

Melody is growing up fast. Next thing you know it she’ll be doing her own reviews.
Great comments and Insight, Melody. Excellent!!!

One of my favorite parts of these reviews is the component drop. It's a super quick and accurate review of the components and heaviness of the game.
That was a serious component drop !

All of the artwork in this game looks great, but it's vague. Good artwork can make learning the game easier, while this seems to do the opposite.

Great game. I'm glad to hear that you both liked it. As soon as I saw that it was up for review, I was so looking forward to the component drop!
I figured this game would have been a Miami Dice review.
Glad to see this review, we've enjoyed anachrony for a while now ^^!
One question though, did you get custom cubes? Ours are way lighter.
I believe the newer printing comes with the darker cubes.
You can write a mail via their website and Mindclash will send them to you for free, no questions asked. Great customer service right there.
Awesome to see how Melody has grown up over the years and her taste in games have changed.
agree with Stefan, great to see her still doing reviews and active here.
She liked Eurogames from the start imho :) But she's not a child anymore, I guess that's what you implied (and it's true ofc). Glad to have her on board regularly :)
She was more of an Ameritrash gamer, specifically light weight ones. Her favorite games were things like Heroscape.

Hey, props to Melody for rocking the Game Theory t-shirt! Always cool to see a fellow theorist. :)
Freakadog It's one of my favorite shirts and UA-cam channels. I was able to convince my dad to get the new shirt that came out =D
Thanks for sharing. Have watched your channel for years. Melody is getting close to you in height!
Tony Bowers Hopefully I won't reach him. I like my height right now. No more inches please!
Awesome. How come Melody don't review games solo? Or makes solo list reviews?
One of my favorite games from last year!
Hahaha Tom's various hats. You'd look sharp in a cabby hat, my man.
These double trouble are the cutest.
Question: What versions and extras are out there ? I have no clue what is needed with all that kickstarter stuff?
Thx!
I got a little pack of extra cards when I got it at Essen.

I liked the game a lot. It has an unforgiving nature though. If you mess up 1 turn it will haunt you in the future. Overall I liked it a lot.
When is Melody going to start wearing crazy hats, vests, ties, suspenders, etc? ;-)
Funny you said you like it with 4 over 2 players, Ant Lab games ranked this game as their #1 pick game for 2 players (2017)
I think it's best at 4p

The resource tokens are for color blind players.
Also, they are "exo-suits" not mechs. Silly difference, but one implied battling, the other does not.
seems complex :) love your honest reviews though!
My thumb up just for dropping all the components...
you guys are the cutest together
Hmm... Anachrony got more positive review than Trickerion then.
Does anyone else feel the artwork for this game is a little uninspiring?
Paul Rumohr completely agree
This is probably the theme that I most dislike in the whole universe...
