Snakes can't regulate their body temperature like we can, so when it slithered onto the hot road it heated up and basically has a heat stroke. That's why there are so many dead snakes on the road in Florida, a lot of black raicers too.
To clarify what happened here, since Black Racers live in such hot climates and are only active in the day and since snakes require outside heat to thermoregulate its body temp, when it hits the concrete that has been heated so hot by the sun the snakes body temp rises extremely quickly causing it to "seize" and die. This happens quite often here in florida when snakes try to cross the street.

As a reptile lover, his thrashing has me heart broken :'( snakes have a hard time cooling themselves down if they get too hot, and can get confused. I'm sure the hot pavement was too much for him, and even if it was not the cause, seizures are not a good thing for a snake to have, as they can easily bite themselves during one. Saying that your dog "nipped" a snake is trying to suggest that it was a light, innocent bite, which it was most likely not, especially for an animal as fragile. It's sugarcoating an unnatural interaction between species that shouldn't meet each other without the intervention of humans, which ended badly for vulnerable wildlife. Nature might be brutal, but you can't change the fact that your domesticated pet killed wildlife that is vulnerable because of human intervention, and pets are part of this human intervention, not nature itself.

If it was a wild animal hunting another wild animal, then I would not intervene, as that is an truly natural interaction and both animals are fighting for their lives (the prey fighting to escape, and the predator fighting for food to survive another day). Pets have no reason whatsoever to kill wildlife, they're well fed and should be kept indoors, supervised while outside, and trained to control their prey drive.

He replied he was sure it had sustained some kind of injury, probably a car running over it. He said he had observed that very same behavior many times ... You say there was no car so possibly something else ... like another type of injury like a bite from a cottonmouth back in the woods as you say ... My thoughts had been a bite from a bullet ant, those wingless wasps... I had one crawl up my pant leg and nail me one time and OMG it felt like I had been gunshot !!!

This is awful, I live in a house with 7 snakes... I was looking up a video of snakes having seizures and my friend sent me this saying “I would t watch it the comments will annoy you” I needed I video to tell me what a snake seizure looks like because I thought 1 of my snakes had one, but who ever said awful stuff about this poor innocent snake is foul. @@Fwibby You may want to educate yourself about snakes. We are more a danger to them than they are to us. Corn/Rat snakes as this black racer is, is non-venomous and will not kill you. It will, however, take care of mice from making a home in your house. No snake wants to harm you, even the venomous type. They usually give you plenty of warning to get away from them like the rattle sound from a rattlesnake. Snakes will attack you if you threaten them. A black racer may bite you in defense but again, it has no venom so it can't kill you.

ok, so 2 things from someone who knows snakes. First, look at the knot near the vent, on his tail. It can be clearly seen between :20-:25 seconds in. It appears to be a severe intestinal blockage, which means this wasn't a seizure. The snake was just writhing in pain. Second thing, to those wondering why the person filming didn't call a vet, well this is also a 2 parter. 1: It's a wild animal, this is nature, not someone's pet. these things happen all the time, it keeps the population in check. 2: By the time the snake was even spotted, it was too late. I, and all fellow snake keepers, must watch our pets for things like this, because it will bring about a sudden and unexpected death in a snake. I could go on about this kind of thing, but i'll leave it at that.
Excellent observation....and quite likely....although I have seen snakes die in paroxysm from excessive heat, especially on hot roads....although the person posting this said it did not die from heat, the sun alone is enough unless it finds shelter, much less a hot pavement.... Black racers like this are from my native woodlands, and getting caught in the sun long enough is often a sure death sentence....and this snake may have reached it's last moments of tolerance...

This is awful, I live in a house with 7 snakes... I was looking up a video of snakes having seizures and my friend sent me this saying “I would t watch it the comments will annoy you” I needed I video to tell me what a snake seizure looks like because I thought 1 of my snakes had one, but who ever said awful stuff about this poor innocent snake is foul. I swear if one of mine did have a seizure I’d cry. They mean the world to me and every reptile owner should think that about their pets.

@@Fwibby You may want to educate yourself about snakes. We are more a danger to them than they are to us. Corn/Rat snakes as this black racer is, is non-venomous and will not kill you. It will, however, take care of mice from making a home in your house. No snake wants to harm you, even the venomous type. They usually give you plenty of warning to get away from them like the rattle sound from a rattlesnake. Snakes will attack you if you threaten them. A black racer may bite you in defense but again, it has no venom so it can't kill you.
Damn! Weirdest thing I've seen in... ever. That had to really suck! When humans have seizures, we fall over, maybe hit our heads, wake up with no idea what happened and a headache and a massively chewed up tongue. But THIS... Jesus, just imagine heading your head slammed into the ground like that! That amount of force for a head that small... If that snake survived that and woke up, holy hell that had to have been miserable!

Apparently laughter can be a reaction to seeing something unexpected. And who expects a snake to flail about like that? It's like I feel bad for little kids who trip but I cant help but find it funny a little bit, which makes me feel worse lol.
ok, so 2 things from someone who knows snakes. First, look at the knot near the vent, on his tail. It can be clearly seen between :20-:25 seconds in. It appears to be a severe intestinal blockage, which means this wasn't a seizure. The snake was just writhing in pain. Second thing, to those wondering why the person filming didn't call a vet, well this is also a 2 parter. 1: It's a wild animal, this is nature, not someone's pet. these things happen all the time, it keeps the population in check. 2: By the time the snake was even spotted, it was too late. I, and all fellow snake keepers, must watch our pets for things like this, because it will bring about a sudden and unexpected death in a snake. I could go on about this kind of thing, but i'll leave it at that.
Excellent observation....and quite likely....although I have seen snakes die in paroxysm from excessive heat, especially on hot roads....although the person posting this said it did not die from heat, the sun alone is enough unless it finds shelter, much less a hot pavement.... Black racers like this are from my native woodlands, and getting caught in the sun long enough is often a sure death sentence....and this snake may have reached it's last moments of tolerance...
