Man I wish I could have heard this live. I would've loved to call in. P was my favorite rapper. Just always so raw and gritty... But what really set P apart from everybody else for me was right after he came home from that last prison bid... He started doing this thing called "Saturday Night Live Niggas" where he would live stream on Ustream for HOURS every Saturday night. You got to see other members of the infamous team and new artists.. You got see first hand his process for recording and even hear some of the new music while they were making it... Sometimes he would let aspiring producers send him beats and he wrote to a few. He would even ask us for feedback on a verse he just recorded. Then you would hear the verse on a project which to me, was crazy. His work ethic was unreal! But what I remember most about that time was just how down to earth he was... He was very personable... He would always answer your questions. He had a wild sense of humor... People would ask him "Yo, when is Mobb Deep coming to my area?" and he would always try to make it happen... There would even be people who couldn't afford the show but they really loved the Mobb so he would make arrangements for them to come to the show... It made me think about a line he said: "If you broke then get the bootleg... it's on me... as long as you spreadin the word, it's all peace." Just a real cool down to earth dude. So yeah, he may not have been the most popular rapper but he was definitely my favorite rapper, hands down. My condolences to his family... Especially Hav, Alchemist and the rest of the Infamous team. RIP thun.
Justin I've never comment or shit, but I wanna say I appreciate you for all you put out, I've really got more into rap after first seeing you for the first time back on hiphopdx, I'll always keep rocking with you dawg. RIP Prodigy
Prodigy was underrated to me. I'm born 98 and most cats my age only know shook ones. But their catalogue runs so much deeper than the infamous. Wish prodigy could have gotten more love while he was around.
The Company Man Media my introduction to mobb deep wasn't from 8 mile, it was the the bet tde cypher and I must have been 13. I feel like a lot of people my age would have found out about them that way
This is the first time that I've ever been TRULY affected by the passing of an artist. Mobb Deep has been with me since 97 and I feel stupid for not having had a chance to meet him before he passed. I'm legitimately distraught, but this video helps.
I feel you, brother. Great hearing from you, too. It's been a while. I hope everything's dope with you. I was surprised how hard this one hit me, too. I've always had respect for Mobb, but I was never the biggest fan per se. With that being said, the world lost a great one. I've met him a few times and covered them for years. Always 100% genuine.
The Company Man Drop a Gem was on Hell on Earth. The 3 albums after Juvenile Hell was the classics. Hegelian Dialectic was fire too. There is nothing Mobb Deep did that was not fire.
Prodigy is in a different league no other rap has intros like him plus is style and bars if you from the hood it's easy to relate that infamous album had me wilding out in juvenile jail RIP MY BROTHER CLASS OF YOUR OWN
infamous/ hell on Earth/ Murda Muzik/ infamy/ free agents/ HNIC/ HNIC2/ return of the Mac/..now all of the joint I just named are all banging hands down... PRODIGY should be the next great to have a movie about his life and career..Rip Prodigy 👑 👑 always loved u from jump my favorite rapper of all time. u will be missed greatly appreciate all you done for me
why people talk about mobb deep like its just prodigy, give havoc his props, it wouldn't be mobb deep without havoc. Havoc produced a lot of mobb deep beats, monster beats. R.i.p. Prodigy, props havoc. Both queens kings.
PRODIGY PASSING SHOULD BE A WAKE UP CALL FOR HIP HOP, STYLES P IS PUSHING THE RIGHT MESSAGE RIGHT NOW, AND IT IS A CHANCE TO STEP BACK AND SAY ITS NOT ABOUT SHOWCASING THE CURRENT 30 RAPPERS WE NEED TO SHOWCASE ALL OF THEM CONSTANTLY, THESE GUYS ARE ALL STILL WORKING AND TOURING, WE NEED TO CELEBRATE EVERY RAPPER FROM EVERY ERA AND EVERY REGION AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, SPREAD THE LOVE NOW WHILE WE HAVE THEIR SPIRITS IN THE PRESENT
Justin man you're one of the best Hip-Hop brains out there dude and you and Jude just do great together. I am from India and this really educates me a lot and teaches so much about the greats. Rest in peace Prodigy. One love.
I bought The Infamous Mobb Deep cassette album, listened to it once then dubbed the original and kept on dubbing the copies because I knew I would stretch the shit outta that cassette... it stayed in my tape deck for months on end but enjoyed heavy rotation for the remainder of the 90s. Easily in my top 10 rap albums of all time, every single track on that album I knew word for word. A sad day indeed.
Quiet Storm, Apostles Warning, Nighttime Vultures, Keep it Thoro, survival of the fittest, shook ones, power rap, the basics, you can never feel my pain, dealt with the bullshit, IMDKV, stuck on you, bang on em, war is on, God pt 3, where ya heart at, adrenaline, allustrious, everyday gun play, recognize and realize, still shinin... Epic Prodigy. RIP to the God
No one else sounded like Mobb Deep , just the first CNN album , it was just a incredible sound like P was rapping from the crypt and the production is deep deep with in the tombs of Hip Hop
RIP Prodigy. He was able to make it to the current median age for males living with sickle cell, and contribute so much to peoples lives in the process. He was definitely one of the best writers in Hip-Hop and dropped some of the best material hip-hop has, or might ever experience.
The thought that the people with this disease that overcome the struggle of it and manage to become successful is mind blowing to me that they strived to become famous while fighting this horrible disease is so inspiring to me. Prodegy is such a inspiring figure to do what he did while battling through this war.....
Alot of people dont know that the late Afeni Shakur gave Prodigy 2pacs rhyme book. Prodigy pen game was crazy poetically..i feel like Prodigy will fit in that class of rappers like Big L,Big Pun etc..Underrated legends people barely mention that people know held it down more than their favorite MC's.
Mature Gambino wow rip to all the legends and that's amazing that 2 PAC mom did that for prodigy . Where you get that info from brother ? Very interesting.
Man I love this channel, I think it would be dope to have Justin Hunte go on No jUmper, The Breakfast club or something like that so more younger people such as my self can learn more about hip hop, been a fan since HipHopDX glad to see you doing shit. RIP Prodigy, respect to Rude Jude too!
No problem bro, hopefully they see it and see your verified and look at your work. Your work speak for itself, They might not agree but they understand haha, keep grinding bro
Justin, I would recommend doing a full breakdown on how does the death of artists influence their perception in GOAT conversations. Would be really dope. Love your channel btw and hope you do well solo.
That comparison to Ghostface hit home with me. I think he has the strongest case for GOAT from the Wu. That being said, Ghost and Mobb's ears for picking beats is impeccable and its what helps their catalog stay fresh. RIP Prodigy.
RIP Prodigy. Also love these breakdowns with Jude. 19 minutes 40 minutes doesn't matter I will watch your videos to the end brother. Also Canada Represent
R.I.P. Prodigy, was completely shocked by the news, didn't know he was hospitalised. For the GOAT album series you should start with The Infamous, it's often overlooked when it comes to great hip-hop albums. Best album to come out of Queens after Illmatic IMO.
Listen both of y'all. Hell On Earth is by FAR the premier showcase for why Prodigy was a legendary lyricist. His singles, whether Mobb Deep or solo, are good, but nowhere near what that album displayed. RIP Prodigy.
Yo I'd love to see either a TBD or Breakdown w/ Jude more about the production side of hip hop. Talking about the best producers, crews, writers, etc. Dre, Kanye, Bomb Squad, RZA, etc. It'd be a dope conversation imo
Ras Dam dude Clipse goes hard have you kept of with pusha T he still goes hard What about Red & Meth and idk about miller and drake they both have to be on the mic maybe jay and Ye??
Hah! I only mentioned Drake to throw shade at him for using ghostwriters! Pusha has been my go to guy for Dope bars for more than a decade now. For me, a great duo is like a pair of titties, you really notice when one is missing. Jay-Z and Ye don't fit that definition. Daz and Kurupt do. Havok and Prodigy do. Artists that are better together than apart. I don't imagine many people will agree but that's how I've always looked at duos.
I really enjoyed SEEING instead of listening to part of the All Out Show. wish they would do more Videos. On Demand should offer that. Justin Really dig listening to you debate music bro. I would love to debate music with you one day yo
I def agree with you that they are appropriately rated as a group. Hav might be an underrated producer and P's influence is underrated though. I mean, illuminati is an ongoing music topic and P has the first memorable mention of this. He sprinkled it throughout his music until he went full fledged with it in his recent release (which is kinda eerie). Dope Hov vocal sample there too. Back on topic, I think ppl sleep on him planting that subject matter. Mobb is such an important piece of the rap puzzle bruh.
That's a great point. They were wild early on the illuminati conversations. I wonder how their career arc would like minus internal strife and jail sentences. The music was still there. Especially Prodigy and Alchemists work together.
Just found this channel from the XXX millenials video, can't believe you dont have more subscribers! Your video quality is top notch, keep it up and you will grow quickly im sure of it
The best to ever do it rip prodigy. Shook ones lp murder muzik to of the greatest lps of all time I still cut and scratch both lps in the mix on the turntables even prodigys keep thoro a live long long lived classic
Amazing insight as always. Thank you for celebrating one of the greats. As a 90's kid I never knew the east/west divide because it ended before I could listen to music. mobb deep and the wu tang clan are some of my favorites. question: would you ever do a video on to Tyler or the whole of phenomenon. some of the music coming it out of that group is highly underrated due to people having negative perceptions about the artists themselves.
Heh up lads a real sad day for Hip Hop, The death of a rapper hasn't hit me this hard since Biggie,As 1 half of maybe the greatest duo in Hip Hop P was a legend, plus his solo work, production and colabo with the Alchemist (remember his 1st act was the pop rap duo The Whooliganz with Scott Caan without P's cosign we might not have heard of Al)which brings us on to Murda Musik although Shook Ones 2 is MBs greatest moment MM is Mobbs best Lp,not only for Quiet Storm (it's on this Jude not Infamous )&the Lil Kim remix but It's Mine with Nas,The Realest with Kool G Rap (the start of the Alchemist partnership of which Hold You Down is my fave ),Thug Music (brilliant! !!!)and more, my brother sent the tape to me on my 2nd bid and it helped me get through it.One of Hip Hops greatest and a tradigy, RIP the God.I feel privileged and and am grateful to have Ps amazing music over more than 20 years. One thing that is pissing me off is the Illuminati Sacrifice shit that is going around, what do you to think of that bollocks, great show as usual Justin and Jude, speak to you soon TCM,respect oh shit don't forget Burn, dope
Obviously I am a year late, but I don't care. I was a teenager in the nineties, Mobb Deep was my favorite group until the tail end of high school when I discovered The Beatnuts, and I was firm in my allegiance in all of Pee's beefs. Justin verbalized what I always felt better than I ever could when he said all the top tier emcees came at him because he was a problem. That is the perfect answer to everyone that likes to point out he lost all those battles. (Which isn't even all that accurate. Drop a Gem on Em is better than Hit Em Up, I will take that opinion to my grave. And on wax, Prodigy dusted Keith Murray. Really, Jigga is the only one I can't argue.)
How can that dude sit there with a straight face and say he liked Mob Deep singles and not the albums....has he not heard the classic Infamous album , and the phenomenal Mudra Musik???!!! thanks to Prodigy 👑 👑 mobb deep stayed around years after 95.. they stayed great up till Americaz nightmare.. name another group or artist who came out in them 3 year u guys said who lasted half as long
they pulled off other disses at pac. but since drop a gem on em was hittin as a single they left it on n pulled the other diss tracks they had once Pac died

Drop a Gem came out before PAC was shot. I know this because I found an internet thread hours before Pac was shot in 96’. People were talking about it , THEN Tupac was shot. But due to the timing and how the Stone Age was , people didn’t really know

Man... that's a GREAT piece! Thanks for that, Liu. And thanks for checking the channel too.
Note: "Drop A Gem On Em'' came out in April 1996, BEFORE the passing of Pac. Mobb took the song off the radio after his passing as well
That comparison to Ghostface hit home with me. I think he has the strongest case for GOAT from the Wu. That being said, Ghost and Mobb's ears for picking beats is impeccable and its what helps their catalog stay fresh. RIP Prodigy.
Me too. I hadn't thought about that before. I wish they picked beats for Nas.
@@TheCompanyMan man them picking beats for Nas would be dope, his verse on Verbal Intercourse could be a glimpse of what Nastrodamous could've been
Thanks for the content man, one of the best creators on youtube along with DEHH! collab!
Thank you! Definitely going to do that.
Drop a gem on em' was released while 2pac was still alive and Mobb Deep pulled the track off radio stations after Pac passed as a sign of respect.
RIP Prodigy. Also love these breakdowns with Jude. 19 minutes 40 minutes doesn't matter I will watch your videos to the end brother. Also Canada Represent
HAHN! Thank you. It occurred to me in a conversation yesterday that Prodigy passing is also the death of Mobb Deep. Sobering thought.
Shit man that's actually so true ;you never hear much about Havoc. Also just realized that Havoc is only a year older than Prodigy.
These guys are yooooouuuuuuuunnnnnnnngggggggg. That adds to the tragedy of it all. This is all around terrible.

best hip hop albums were 95 and 96 but in 93 and 94 they were pretty good albums
Drop a Gem came out before PAC was shot. I know this because I found an internet thread hours before Pac was shot in 96’. People were talking about it , THEN Tupac was shot. But due to the timing and how the Stone Age was , people didn’t really know
