Ustaad Hajat Qabool is a musical legend and was a maestro of Surnia ( Shehnai) a folk instrument that has been at the heart of folk music in the region.
A household name in Gilgit Baltistan, and with a significant foreign audience, Hajat is pretty much unknown to the rest of Pakistan. Not born into a musician family, it's an anomaly for someone like Hajat Qabool to become the custodian of centuries-old musical traditions.
Hajat Qabool passing away on March 11th left a void behind that would not be filled for generations to come. He left behind a legacy of melodious tones that will ring through the ears of his music enthusiasts for centuries to come.
