I disagree it interwebs the past with the present to the point every episode is so deep, the only problem is that so many of the choices some of the characters make go against their character
I'd used to watch this anime during my start watching whatever was watchable on UA-cam and now just rewatching this anime years later to me honestly it completely needs a redo just so it could improve itself for its own good maybe much like how some old animes in these times are getting a redo to truly follow all of the original source material for the newer generation to see.

I hated how most of this anime was just flashbacks and we didn’t get to see barely any present episodes of the current timeline legit 85% of this anime was flashbacks. It's one of the same issues I have with the Solid Series of the Metal Gear franchise. More than half of it focuses on the prequel stories of Big Boss instead of in the present with Solid Snake himself. They were beyond fun and interesting to look at, but they make Solid Snake's entire story as a whole, look anticlimatic because so much time was spent focusing on them instead of properly progressing the story of the present era (Read: All the important stuff that happened OFF-SCREEN between MGS2 and MGS4). And in this show's case, the flashbacks were still interesting and explained a lot, they didn't exactly explain enough, like Mitsuomi's motives, why Maya's still fighting. And speaking of Maya, half of this stuff is her fault to begin with. The flashbacks tell us so much, but they fail to answer any of the real questions. So, you're right. It does honestly kind of make the whole thing feel pointless.
The show would be too cliche if the standard vanilla dweeb was the main. I liked that the main character was brash and loved to fight he was a cool character. But I do agree that masataka should have had a more important role and trained hard then fight nagi for aya.

I think they ruined the anime when he got injured and could only fight fr 3 minutes tops or die of a massive heart attack. The one who thought of that was a real idiot. That ruined the rest of the story for the rest of us. He knows full well he's going to die but wants that stupid kid to do it. I hate dumb drama anime. I only like comedy. .
