You cannot turn off Synchro Shift with the app. You do it on the bike by cycling through to “Manual Mode” using the function keys. The process I talk about at time stamp 12:06
Great video and thanks. Bought a used 9250 setup. The front derailleur is locked out. My guess is it’s the little button in the back. Also trying to figure out in the app where to set 50/34?
You set the gearing in the "Customize" menu. You'll see images for each of your paired Di2 components. The first one will be your front derrailleur. Select it which then brings up two checklists: one to choose your front chainring combo and the second for your rear cassette gearing. Since the two issues you mentioned both relate to your front derrailleur, there must be something wonky with that component. Maybe it's damaged, not installed properly, a poor cable connection between your Di2 battery and FD, or outdate firmware.
Is this app broken??? My phone is on Android 15 and apparently they fixed compatibility in October, but whenever I go to bike search page It shows how to in a split second, then goes away...

Hej Thank you for a very good video. I have a question: i have di2 ultegra and i am using the manuel mode. My problem is that the fornt derailler is too fast so if i an not almost stopping to move the chain ring when i shift, the chain will fall. I can see from your video how to change from fast to slow, but that is possible only if i am in semi or multi shifting. My question is how one can change the speed of shifting in the front with "only" manuel shifting? with regard Ethan
That's right; adjusting the shift speed is only possible in full synchro or semi-synchro shift modes. I guess the thinking is that in manual mode you'd always want it set to a fast front derailleur shift. There must be something off with your front derailleur as you should not be dropping a chain on a front shift. I've never had that happen on any Di2 system I've run. Assuming your chain is sized correctly and your not running a super small inner chainring with a massive outer one, then it must be a simple FD adjustment that is required. Make sure the height of your FD over your outer chainring is correct and also that the chain guide is angled as per Shimano's instructions. Also make sure your limit adjustments are set correctly. All these things if not set up correctly can cause shifting problems and a dropped chain. Here's a link to the Better Shifting website which describes the adjustment process for 12-speed Di2 Ultegra... bettershifting.com/installation-guide/12-speed-front-derailleur-installation-and-adjustment-guide/
Hi Mike, thanks for the vid. I’ve got 9150 , when I micro adjust my rear derailleur using etube, I can’t shift using the shifters to see if I made a good adjustment. I then have have to leave the app first. That’s not handy. Am I doing something wrong or is it the app? Thanks!
No. You aren’t doing anything wrong. You’re exactly right. When you are in the eTube app and setting up the micro-adjustments, you cannot shift gears at the same time. You need to exit the app for that and get out of pairing mode. For micro-adjustments, you may find it just as easy to set it up NOT using the app, but just using the junction box settings on your bike. I’ve always found that if I follow Shimano’s instructions on how to properly set the rear derailleur step adjustments, it works without any further tweaking. That process is basically as follows: - Shift rear derailleur to 5th largest sprocket. - Shift front derailleur to small chainring. - Press button on Junction box until LED illuminates. - Turn the cranks and then press your shifter button until you hear it rubbing against the 4th largest rear cog. - When you hear the slight chain rub, press the other shifter button 4 times to move derailleur in the opposite direction back towards the 5th largest cog. This should centre the pulley wheels under the cog perfectly. - Press junction button until red LED turns off. - Shifting should now be set properly. If that isn’t making for clean shifts, I would think there is something else up. Like maybe a bent derailleur hanger. Sorry if this isn’t all that helpful, or if I gave you way more info than what you wanted :)
@@bikesbymike Thanks a lot Mike for your detailed answer! Hard to find on yt. My shifting is perfect I only have adjust it forth and back when I put my bike on the Wahoo kickr trainer which has a sunrace cassette. I can’t get it as smooth as Shimano, might be the trainer as well.
@@simonwarmer8777 Oh. I see. So you are doing more frequent adjustments than the typical Di2 user. It must be the different cassette and/or the cassette spacing on the trainer is slightly different than what you have on your bike.
I bought a new Colnago V3, it was shipped 2 days ago. when I want to "wake up" the L and R levers and press any button, nothing happens. The battery is fine (green). What could it be?
It sounds like one of three things is going on. Let’s start with the easiest to fix solution and go to hardest. 1) The coin batteries in the shifter levers are dead - Replace with CR1632 coin batteries and you should be good to go. 2) The levers haven’t been pair to the main Di2 system. If you haven’t done it already, install the E-Tube Cyclist app on your phone and see if it recognizes your levers. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to pair them. Here is a link on how to do that. bettershifting.com/installation-guide/pair-12-speed-wireless-di2-shifters/ 3) The lever firmware requires updating - Unfortunately, Shimano still requires us to use a wired connection to update the lever firmware. So, it’s not a simple task. Here’s the process: bettershifting.com/installation-guide/update-the-firmware-on-12-speed-hydraulic-shift-levers/ Hope this helps.
Does your app log your gear maintenance.... Mine doesn't... And I have 2 updates for my shifter but its not letting me update without a wire connection....I have the latest Ultegra di2
GPLama covers the shifter firmware update issue here: ua-cam.com/video/7k8IVKGBUds/v-deo.htmlsi=evqF9MQ8uck2CYfm. He does mention that a wired connection is required for Dura Ace and Ultegra, but I just tried my 12-speed Dura Ace Di2 and I believe it allowed me to update all firmware updates wirelessly. It's not showing that a firmware update is needed for the shifters anymore, so I assume it did it ;) As for the gear maintenance log, if you are referring to the "Gear usage rate" which shows the % of shifts on each rear cog, then no, mine is not working. It's just showing 0% for each cog.
i just got my new bike with ultegra di2. when its in syncro shift, when i shift up the front derailleur, it get stuck. I'm not sure why becasue i didn't adjust the settings. any solutions? thx!
If it’s a brand new bike where the Di2 hasn’t been used, sounds like an installation problem. Just wondering if the front derailleur low and high limit adjustments have been set correctly. That’s one possible options but there are others.
You can set up your Synchro settings through the eTube app, but you can only change the mode you are in on the bike. A quick double-press on the rear derailleur (for 12-speed) or the junction box (for 11-speed) will switch your shifting mode to the next mode. There are three modes in total stored on your Di1. Manual, Shift Mode 1 and Shift Mode 2. Every double-click sends you to the next mode. For 11-speed, solid red/green is Manual. Double blinking red/green is Shift Mode 1. Triple blinking red/green is Shift Mode 2. For 12-speed, solid blue is Manual mode. Double flashing blue is Shift Mode 1. Triple flashing blue is Shift Mode 2.
Hard to say as it could be several things. First thing is that for all Di2 models except 12-speed, you have to have the Shimano D-Fly Wireless unit attached to your bike. This unit allows the Di2 to pair with the app. If you have that already, you should have all the hardware you need. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed and also make sure your Di2 is in pairing mode as I show in my video. Those are the big ones I can think of.
All versions of Di2, not just the new 12-speed, but there are some limitations for the oldest versions of 11-speed Di2 which have the ANT+ ONLY (not Bluetooth) battery. You also need to have the D-Fly Inline Wireless Unit for any version other than the newest 12-speed. Best to check the following compatibility chart which clearly shows which Di2 components work with the E-Tube app and what limitations (if any) there are. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/bike.shimano.com/content/dam/e-tube/assets/images/contents/project/compatibillity/pdf/en/HM-CC%205.2.0-00-EN.pdf
8:18 deciding to upgrade my 105 mechanical to either 105 di2 or ultegra di2, since 105 di2 doesn't have hood buttons, can i designate one the the four buttons to perform synchro shift modes on the fly change?
Yes. The options available for the X, Y & A shifter buttons on each shifter (or just X & Y in the case of 105 Di2) are the same. So you could assign the “Function” option to either the X or Y lever shifter on the 105 to control the Synchro mode on-the-fly.
I’m not certain what’s happening at your end, but here are a few things to try. If you haven’t used the app with your Di2 before, you will need to “register bike or power meter” just for the first time. This allows the app to set up a profile for your Di2, and more importantly, to search for your Di2 components. If it’s searching and stalling like you say, it’s usually one of four issues. 1) Your Di2 isn’t in Bluetooth connection mode. For the new 12-speed version, this is activated by pushing and holding the button next to the rear derailleur for 0.5 to 2 seconds to make LED flash blue. 2) Bluetooth connectivity isn’t activated on your smartphone. 3) E-Tube is looking for the PassKey, but you should get prompted if it needs it. The default is 000000. 4) The latest firmware update hasn’t been downloaded to the app. The app will prompt you as soon as you open it to download the new firmware if one is available. Always run the latest firmware if prompted. If none of these four fixes work, I’m not sure what the issue is.
You also have to give permission to the app to use bluetooth when you install it. Somehow I missed that the first time I installed the app, deleted it and re-installed, then allowed permission and it connected.@@bikesbymike

@Mike, just bought 2024 giant defy advanced pro 1 two days back and connected with shimano's e tube app to update the firmware. By default, the app automatically shows the cassette as 11-34 whereas there is a11-36 cassette mounted on the bike. How do I fix this issue ? Do I have to take the bike to the Giant dealer to fix this glitch ? please advise . thanks
Yes. You can definitely change the gearing selection within the E-Tube app. Here’s how you do it: - Open the E-Tube app on your smartphone. - Place the Di2 in pairing mode by holding the Di2 Function Button on the rear derailleur for between 0.5 and 2 seconds. It will display “Connecting” on the app screen. - Once connected, you will see all your various components listed on the main screen. At the top will be your shift settings with one of them displaying your current gearing. Select this option. - You should now see a screen that displays your front chainring options and rear cassette options with your current selections highlighted with blue dots. Choose the proper front chainring and rear gearing that corresponds to your bike. For you, that’s selecting an 11-36 rear cassette. Hit “Update”. - Choose “Disconnect” to stop Di2 pairing and save your new selections. - Your Di2 should now recognize your 11-36 rear cassette.
Thank you for responding to my question. For the piece of mind, I asked Giant shop to fix this issue having the correct cassette in the app and also double the indexing and shifting according to 11-36 cassette on the bike! . Hope this approach was fine!

Just two things come to mind. First, make sure your Di2 system has the hardware necessary for Bluetooth capability. If you have the new 12-speed Di2, the Bluetooth module is already built into the rear derailleur so you don’t need anything extra. With the 11-speed version like what is shown in my video, you need to purchase and connect the Shimano Wireless Module - EW-WU111/EW-WU101. Second, it’s possible the firmware isn’t up-to-date and causing connectivity issues. If you can’t get the wireless connection to work, an alternative is to use a hardwire connection between your laptop/desktop and your Di2 as described here… ua-cam.com/video/Ip1EiTNg2So/v-deo.html Shimano offers a Windows desktop app that works quite well if you have a PC and the Shimano connection cable.
Is this for the 12 speed or 11 or for both?
Works with both. The 11-speed does require the D-Fly inline Wireless Unit EW-WU111 to allow Bluetooth connectivity between your phone and Di2.
My shifters are on fly1 / fly2 but the hood buttons still won't scroll pages on my wahoo bolt - any ideas what else i could check?
I don't have experience with the Bolt, but GPLama has a good video on this... ua-cam.com/video/pgGITe1_OQ0/v-deo.html
Helpful. Thanks
Thanks! I was surprised it was so difficult to find any tutorials on the E-Tube app as Di2 is so common now.
105 12sp di2 app not finding the unit. I push and hold the button till the blue light flashes then search for unit in the app but nothing comes up! Annoying! My phones bluetooth has found the unit but not the app!
Were you able to figure this out? @richardmiddleton7770 My 2020 Domane SLR7 has 11 speed and I press & hold the connect button, the red and green light flash for 2 seconds then turn off. Cant seem to figure it out.
Did you find out what's wrong?
@Mike, just bought 2024 giant defy advanced pro 1 two days back and connected with shimano's e tube app to update the firmware. By default, the app automatically shows the cassette as 11-34 whereas there is a11-36 cassette mounted on the bike. How do I fix this issue ? Do I have to take the bike to the Giant dealer to fix this glitch ? please advise . thanks
Yes. You can definitely change the gearing selection within the E-Tube app. Here’s how you do it:
- Open the E-Tube app on your smartphone.
@@amritv6889 That works too. Always good to use your LBS.
@@bikesbymike Thanks Mike! .. where are you located ? I am in Toronto, Canada
@@amritv6889 Ditto. Midtown Toronto. Thanks for watching!
한국자막 부탁해요
문제 없어요. 자동 생성된 한국어 자막을 그대로 사용했습니다.
This is useless for the new 12 speed with wireless shifters.
Step 1: download the app. Thank you, I got stuck on this one.
Nein, da wird nix erklärt, but explained!
When i hold down the connect button i don't get the flashing lights like on the video. Any suggestions of something to try?
Here is the link to the Windows download… bike.shimano.com/en-US/e-tube/project.html You will then be able to check that your firmware is up-to-date and also do all the things you can do with the E-Tube smartphone app. Hope this helps.
@@bikesbymike thanks for the detailed reply. I've had the wireless module fitted by my bike shop (or at least they said they fitted it...) so perhaps I just don't have the firmware update to finish everything off. I'll try connecting to my laptop and see if that helps.
