I'd travel to you for a paid personal lesson for me and my children on improving our technique. But next to that, your videos are the next best thing. Keep them coming.
You should give us a good instructional video on how to shoot sporting clays. Cover the Basics and what not to do. I think it would be awesome! You could go pro your gun so we could see how you follow through as well
Perfect youth / beginners guide Steve. Great work. Love your safety first, fun and success principles. It would be awesome for people to see a how and why video for adjusting cast. Maybe demo how cast impacts shot using the pattern board. Keep up the fantastic work.
I'm right handed, left eye dominant. Been shooting left handed since your son's age and i'm in my mid 40's. Have no problem shooting right handed guns.
This is so spot on! I have an 11 and a 9 year old and we are just starting our journey together! Thank you for this. You’re a great shooter, but more importantly, you’re a great dad!
Hey Steve, sure we want to see more practice videos about how to shoot a shotgun! Someone who shoots so many rounds like you has always good tips and advices!! In the videos you are talking more than a friend than a instructor, thats very important to me and thats why i like them so much. Also looking forward for some new hunting videos, if you find the time pal! Family first... Nils from germany
Very good video. I would love to see some videos on how to practice on the range, and off the range. Off range practice would be even more appropriate for me as I only get 1 time a week (at most) to go to a range
Great video I’m trying to get involved with the clay shooting learning by myself I would like to watch more videos for rookies like me and also a shotgun review videos. Than you.
This is definitely a great video. My son started clay shooting at age 11. His first experience was spot on with your S F S. The coaches at his school are awesome! Thanks Steve for your amazing content and keep up the good work 👍
Love the content! Keep it coming! I would love to see some comparison of left-handed guns available. The sx4 is the only true left-hand option available. All others are 1/2 left and 1/2 right. I'm left eye dominant, and have always shot right hand guns. My son is left-handed, left eye dominant. I would love to start him with the correct gun. Keep it coming! Love watching and learning your content!
Great video, my 11 year old son is also right handed and left eye dominant. Going to buy the Affinity 3 also. Would love to see a video on how to change the cast.
Excellent video Steve! Everything you said and did was spot on👍 As others have said you are a great shooter but more importantly a great dad. I’m an old coot in my 70’s now and have been trap shooting since I was ten. I was very fortunate to receive trap shooting instruction from Arnold Reigger and my grandfather a AAA class trap shooter. Now I’m going to start coaching my grandkids 15 & 16 and this and your other videos are immensely helpful. Very, very happy that I found your channel!
Thank you for the feedback. Glad you have enjoyed the videos. I am learning something new every day and I enjoy getting to share what little I know with others. Enjoy working with your grandkids. You are making investments that will last for many years.
Having taught 4 kids and 6 grandkids about guns in general and shotgun shooting in particular, I really enjoyed your teaching video. Since you got into fitting the gun in this video, I'm using this occasion to ask a question. After patterning my new Retay at 40 yds with IC choke and game loads it shot low so did same at 20 yds, still low. My question is to raise point of impact, do I raise the stock?
Good ideas. We started having a family trap shoot a couple of times per year. The kids range in age from 5 to 12. We never could get the 12 year old girl to shoot. She liked flinging the clays though. Her mom wasn't too interested in shooting. I finally grabbed a shotgun and her and walked over to where we could shoot from. I gave her some quick individualized instruction and had her daughter fling a clay. She shot a couple of times and started enjoying it. She was excited to tell her friends that she had shot (and hit) clays and enjoys it now,
Great video thanks just started getting my oldest daughter out and shooting so thanks for some great points. I was curious if you could do a video on how to properly fit a shotgun. Thanks
Buy a gun with stock shims and follow the instructions. Otherwise go to a competent gunsmith for a custom stock. It's usually cheaper to get a gun with shims, custom stocks can be very costly
@@benblazek3305 thank you Ben, but i already know this, i would just like to know steves tought process doing it, like maybe he has some litle known (to me anyway!) pro tips etc…
Thank you for this wonderful video, trying to get my daughter into the sport. I was not knowing that semi autos provide less recoil. Is there any science behind it?
Thanks for starting off mentioning making sure the kid is physically big enough to handle a shotgun and the recoil. As a NSCA Level I and NRA Shotgun Instructor, who as done a lot of instructing of Boy Scouts, I have seen way too many kids who weren't physically big enough to handle the sport and end up turned off to shotguns. I initially got the NSCA Level I Instructor because people would ask for help while I was shooting and I figured I ought to know what I was doing!!!😎 Then I got my NRA Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Certs to help with my son's Scout Troop. My biggest gripe is when I see someone bring a new shooter and they let them shoot with terrible stance and they get walloped. Usually, this is a guy with his girlfriend!!😡 We need every new shooter we can get, so we need to start them right. Great video!!!
Nice work!! Thank you! As we can apply this to most new shooters that wants to have a go at the sport, essentailly you are coaching the everday Joe Blogs coaches! Thankyou from little New Zeeland! God Bless! PS. At some point I think we need to have fun and you talk us through a couple of basic trick shots😁
My daughters are righty shooters, but I’m a lefty and would be interested to see how to adjust cast if we’re talking about a gun that doesn’t have a shim kit included. And I commented in another video, but after my experience at 9 years old of my first shot being through a single shot 10-gauge farm gun, and looking over the stock because we didn’t check that I was a left eye dominant shooter, I’m shocked I ever shot again after that mule kick of a recoil gave me a split lip and bloody nose. Great advice to go with a smaller gauge, target load, and check for dominant eye!
How do you shoot with both eyes open. That is such a foreign concept to me. I've shoot with a lot of people and they all shoot with one eye. Can you please make a video on that?
HELP! I need help to influence Benelli. I'm setting up a few shotguns for myself but mainly my grandkids use. I'm left handed and my grandkids are all right handed. Certainly can't afford an individual gun for each person, so I would like to set up each gun for universal use. Benelli does NOT offer the two little shims which would give neutral cast, they're only left or right. All I'm asking for is two little shims, no major gun rebuild. If anyone else has this issue please contact Benelli with the request for neutral cast shims.
My dad did the hard recoil method with the shotgun training.Handed me the sbe 1 with three and half . After I finished 3 shots I said “ has hell of a kick huh?, his response has stuck with me “ you wanna kill greater Canadians with me you’ll need to complain less . Shoot 3 1/2s still just as a keepsake
I am a 22 year veteran Shooting Sports Director at my Councils scout camp. I have had in excess of 2500 students in my merit badge classes. This video is by far the best new shooter lesson I have seen. I will use some of what I have seen in the future. Great job!
If you're not gonna spend the money for a good semi auto don't fall for the belief that the 20 gauge is for youths............you're better off with a 12 gauge with light loads ............un less you can order ultra light loads for the 20 ..........the 20 guage guns are built light and stores usually only sell game or target loads and they're hot loads.
Hi Steve, I’m enjoying your videos a bunch, but felt I had to be super critical here. Your son is wearing ear muffs over a stocking cap and over the bows of his shooting glasses. This allows some noise to penetrate that shouldn’t. I am a certified Industrial Hygienist and am very cognizant of hearing protection and how to use it. Just trying to protect his hearing and keep the experience fun.
Hey! Thanks for tuning in. If you'd like more "How to Shoot a Shotgun" type videos, let me know! #targetfocusedlife
Yes do one about shooting trap for a beginner.
I'd travel to you for a paid personal lesson for me and my children on improving our technique. But next to that, your videos are the next best thing. Keep them coming.

That would be awesome, or SHOT CAM.

I would love to see a video on knowing how to gauge how much lead is needed when shooting clays or bird hunting, please.

This is a great video. Would love for you to do a full series of coaching young and new shooters thanks!
More to come! In fact, we are launching another video in this series on Thursday! 👊 Stay Target 🎯Focused (Hebrews 12:1-3)
I completely relate to the left eye right hand. Its a fun thing to tell folks
Very good video. I would love to see some videos on how to practice on the range, and off the range. Off range practice would be even more appropriate for me as I only get 1 time a week (at most) to go to a range

Are you planning to do a show at Hidden acres this year.
It is voting day today - so I am voting for a video and how to fit the shotgun (cast & rise, and whatever else)!
Well that's a great idea, Patrick! Thanks for voting lol - It's in the works!

Curious why you’re starting him with a 20ga, versus a 28ga or .410?
Good info tt
team #howtochangethecast ... go for it bud!!! i didnt even know you can switch a shotty from right hand to left dominant. highly interested !
yep , cast video , thanks.
Instead of you looking at his eyes, have him open and close each one, and ask with which eye he can still see you. Helps drive home the difference.
Have you let him try to shoot right handed and left-handed to see which is best for him?
