I’d add 8th: Mindful Minimalism - decluttering for the clear state of mind, not necessarily for aesthetics. Aesthetic minimalism seems more of a visual rather than mindfulness.
I’m Definitely an aesthetic and practical minimalist... as a military family practicing minimalism has made moving less stressful when packing and unpacking
I'm a bit of everything on the list. Something not on the list but I see a lot are spiritual minimalists such as religion, alternative beliefs, philosophy or psychology being the driving force. As an example I use minimalism to accept that nothing in life in permanent including life itself, and that's okay because now I don't panic about scarcity.
I'm a practical and aesthetic minimalist. I struggle with chronic fatigue and need to keep things simple in order to function. And it stresses me out when my counter tops, or any surface I'm my house, are cluttered.
What a great idea ya'll just gave me! .. we need a series of videos of helpful tips for different disabilities geared towards minimalism, housekeeping, selfcare!
I relate to this soooooo much. I had burned out adrenals in 2016, among other things, and am just now feeling more like myself. Hope you feel better soon!
Based on percentage with these different types, I'd say that I'm 70% green minimalist, 10% practical, 10% aesthetic and 10% frugal. Btw, I really love how you went into depth with the mindsets each type of minimalist might have as well as explaining the differences or similarities of each one. TFS!
practical and aesthetic minimalist. practical = cleaning less and just knowing what's inside each containers / cabinets that you have are the best. aesthetic = the clean walls, lots of white space but sprouts of greenery to break the monotomy draws me in. imagine getting home after a long day of work into a zen place
I'm a Green minimalist, with a touch of Aesthetic minimalist, and a sprinkle of Frugal minimalist! I love and care about the environment so much! I even bought some recycled fabric jeans too! 😊 I believe that one of the reasons why I turned to minimalism is because of how bad our planet is being treated, and the amount of things that are going to waste. I even stopped myself from this bad habit because of the overwhelming emotion it made me feel. So I'm switching my life up to a more echo-friendly and healthy simple lifestyle! I'm glad I came across your video, thank you so much 😊
I think I'm a mix of green (hair and skin care in glass or bar, I make my own cleaning products), frugal (every time I want to buy sth I make a research and think 10 times if I really need this, whichc is also being zero waste), aesthetic (recycled jars
I’m a simply, practical and gradual minimalist. Living simply and comfortable. No clutter but I have things. Own a-lot of clothes. Thank you this was great. ❤️❤️
I'm a gradual minimalist but moving toward practical and frugal. I really appreciate this video. Very insightful and it's great to hear it put out there to not judge yourself and others by another's journey. Love it!
That’s so awesome Kestrel! And absolutely. We’re all on our own personal journey with this. It’s not about labels but about understanding how we can each use minimalism to help us live more intentionally 💙
I am a Shaman, as the journey unfolded I realized how programmed I was so consume, and my made family alike. Gradually we became overwhelmed with the amount of things we’ve possessed and used less and less of it over time. It was decided to start purging gradually! As of right this moment I can be put in 5, 6 & 7. There are many many reasons we’ve found ourselves on this journey, but the main goal was to simplify the whole home to create a good flow between the family unit and protect my spiritual practice. It can be very healing to make these choices, and to the physical body as you remove the clutter that has cluttered your spirit. 💜💜🕯
I started decluttering about 4,5 years ago for practical reasons. I've always been pretty minimalist (grew up with a frugal dad and have lived on low income most my life), but I used to dump a lot of stuff (that I didn't use or wasn't able to store/ use in my living spaces because of a lack of storage space in the rooms themselves) in basements/ sheds/ attics, which ended up looking like an episode of Hoarders: no more of that! Since then I have decluttered over 60% of my possessions (and the junk former renters left behind for me 😒) and I basically have had a 'no spend month' every month for the last 3,5 years, I have mostly been replacing items that were in dire need of replacement (like 15 year old pajamas...still miss my Garfield bigshirt though 😢), absolutely nothing came in without at least one other thing leaving. For the past 3 years I'd say, according to your breakdown of the types, I am a gradual minimalist. End goal for me is to basically become the nomadic/ extreme minimalist within the next two years. Not for traveling the world, but being able to pack up some things, sell/ donate everything else and emigrate to the other side of the world. Still have a way to go, but gradually I've learned to let go of my ties to things and I now know that most of my possessions are 'filler' to make my home environment look more cozy and reflective of who I am and where I stand in life. I am not my decor! My decor is a reflection of me, not the other way around. Since a lot of my decor is now self made, I know I can make it again wherever I live. I don't feel the need to ship everything I own once I ever make the decision to emigrate, but it's nice to have this filler around for now since it is keeping me motivated, keeping my head clear and my life practical. 👍🏻
I'm definitely a practical minimalist. I notice that now I'm a mom it's even more present when I compare with my sister and her son. We keep minimal toys and clothes for her. I keep a simple wardrobe so I can get dressed in the dark and everything matches. My husband is even starting to come on board, he's become a gradual minimalist after being married to me for a few years now. I can tell he truly appreciated this style of living.
Shopoholic in rehab and dipping my toes into gradual minimalism…always hated clutter, love clean lines, packing light, less is more mentality, too many things overwhelm me…exploring it all and focusing on applying concepts of minimalism to find balance in my life …glad I found you
I'd say I'm certainly a practical minimalist and aesthetic rings bells with me but I can't complete that look living with my husband and toddler! I came to minimalism through my mental health. Clutter makes me stressed and anxious. I want to cut down decision making, make cleaning easier, not waste money as that causes me stress. And I find the more possession I have the more responsibility I have to store it, clean it, maintain it, fix it, use it. I also try to simplfy my day without all those extra decisions of which cup, which shows, which bag... And I simplify my responsibilities, commitments and timetable where I can :) thank you for this video. It helped me realise this
I found your channel a few weeks ago, and I feel like I'm talking and hanging out with a friend when I watch! I love your content. :) Thanks for sharing! Also, I'm a frugal/practical minimalist haha.
Practical and gradual. I have quite a few things that most minimalists refuse to buy, but they make me happy. I'm also working on minimizing other areas.
Benita Larson refered us to your nice and useful video about different style of minimalism. So useful we humans being love to understand why and what we’re doing something. Your categorisation is enlightening and also proves that those categories are not mutually exclusive and I love that thank’s Ashlynne.
I’m a gradual minimalist. Over the last few years I have been learning to use minimalism and apply it to my life. It has taken me at least 2-3 years for me to remove a good portion of the declutter and feel more at peace with what I have even though I’m still working on letting go of what I don’t need. I have recently started questioned if I would consider calling myself a minimalist as I have been comparing myself to others. But the gradual minimalist fit me most at this stage. I can see myself going into either the frugal or practical minimalism as time goes on. I think that that will happen over time.
I started as a nomad minimalist in the Peace Corps. I kept it up for both practical and ecological reasons when I returned to the states. I'm in the process of drifting back towards nomadic minimalism as I'll be moving abroad in a couple of months. I'll have an apartment this time so I'm bringing more than a backpack this time. However, it will be quite streamlined.
I’m absolutely an gradually aesthetic minimalist with a dash of practicality. I’m all about seeking the beauty that comes from simplicity as well as finding more ease in my day to day tasks. Thank you so much for making this video, Ashlyn. I never considered this before and it really explains why there are so many minimalists whom I respect but can’t identify with: our motivations are completely different!
Practical Minimalist here. I love my books I will always have books, and I want more. I have Scrubs since I'm in them 90% of the time. But other things I'm slowly getting rid of. My family is not interested in minimalism as much as me. That's okay. But it doesn't get me overwhelmed i just close the doors if it overwhelms me. It works for me. Thank you for you're videos.
I started as a frugal minimalist so I didn’t waste money. I’ve always bought my clothes from charity shops since I was a teenager. As I got older and had a family to, everything we didn’t need or want was sold on. My partner now & I are both widowed & have recently moved in together so 2 houses into 1. We have had great fun reselling loads of items or giving away. Definitely an extreme minimalist now. 😁💕🇬🇧
Hi Ashlynne! I always wondered how many types of minimalist there were thabj you for this video. I am a mixture of a practical, green and aesthetical minimalist. 🤗✨ I would also add another category: the smart-minimalist (comes from the term smart-shopper). This minimalist decides to be extremely minimalistic in some places/categories of his life and in others places he consciously enjoys having more items. For eg. On the one hand you might like having a bit more clothes in your wardrobe, and on the other hand you only have 10 kitchen utensils. Have a nice day. ☺️❤️
Great video! First visit, I’m definitely a Gradual, Practical and mo towards a Frugal Minimalist. Thanks for a great breakdown. I had no intention of getting here, but simply started decluttering as a way to reduce my stress. The more I watched and learned from others, the more I was drawn into this lifestyle when I experienced the benefits of clearing out unneeded stuff and being able to easily find what I needed. I’m now 6 months in this journey and am gaining confidence through experience and knowledge in learning the value of Less is More!
Based on ur list....I identify myself with a Practical nd also gradual one as I hv just started.... understanding nd learning abt minimalism.....also some one wrote about spiritual minimalist....thts also I can relate too!!! Lovely topic... thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!!
Your 30 day decluttering challenge compliments the gradual minimalist lifestyle well. Didnt know where to start so im doing that challenge. On day 7 now!
I've always said I'm not a minimalist per se, but lie happily between Marie Kondo and Minimalist. I think now that you've broken it down, I'm a mix of green, aesthetic, and practical minimalist. 💕
I’m visiting your channel for the first time. Benita Larsson talked about you on her channel so I wanted to watch your video. I think people get frustrated if someone is not the same type of minimalist as themselves. Great video.
I see myself as more of a practical minimalist. I am restarting my journey and I am looking forward to being in control of my things and finding the peace of things not taking my energy and time. I want peace, family and the memory and comfort these things bring. I appreciate your channel. Thank you.
This made me think. Up until recently, I have only associated minimalism with the aesthetics, but now I see "minimalism" mainly as the "excuse" I needed to get rid of things I don't want and don't need anymore, and as a tool for personal growth. Now that I've started going more thoroughly through my belongings, I am facing certain dilemmas, but also acknowledging that everything must come to an end, and that there is a time for everything; I am allowed to change my mind, to make mistakes, to try new things, to stop whatever it is I am doing, if it's not right, for me, at this stage of my life. I don't need much, and I don't want much, either. I think about those "types" as more like "aspects". I see it like this: To be frugal, I have always been somewhat reluctant to buy stuff, but also reluctant to throw it out. I am not a "nomad", so I won't move just to move - but what if I did find a good reason, or what if I had to? The idea of moving with so much stuff, again, gives me anxiety, so I want to declutter just to be able to go through the process with a little less stress. I do care about the environment, but not separately from everything else. Frugality, for instance, goes hand in hand with being "green", as I see it. And it has to be practical in my daily life. I am not prone to go to extremes - but I can become very enthusiastic. I appreciate the calmness of minimalism, but for the mental over the visual aspects. I believe things we do should be practical; if minimalism isn't practical for you, you're doing it wrong. But what's practical, is going to be individual. You could get more involved over time, or you could just be "more" or "less" involved, compared to others.
I'd say I'm a mix of practical, gradual and geen minimalist. Practicality is the thing that atracted me to minimalism, but I'm still working on it, slowly and being as green as possible has always been important to me :)
This is great, Ashlynne! Of all the Minimalist resources, this is the first time I've seen anyone address the different motives. Currently, I'm a gradual, having started early last fall. I'm ready for the third pass through in my home. Hoping warm weather and sunshine will come along to help, though I'm using the cold and grey as working motivation so I can ENJOY the warmth and sunshine later. Interestingly, the list alone serves as inspiration for future growth: Though my home doesn't look minimal yet, the idea of clean surfaces (and my improvement toward them) inspires me. Watching my bank account grow instead of shrink definitely makes the frugal one attractive, and oh, to be a nomad someday! :-) Thanks for this and all you share. God bless you with all the time and resources you seek for that which you value most!
I'm a gradual minimalist. I gave away a lot of my makeup, used to be a makeup hoarder. Still have slightly more than the average person but more curated than before. My goal is to use up as much of the makeup I have before it expires. Then instead if growing my collection, I want to have just a makeup bag worth of makeup. Just finished using a conditioner & shampoo. Now I am going to try shampoo & conditioner bars. Just gave away one of my two hairbrushes. Kept the one I prefer using. Stopped buying backups of things. Stopped getting food out, now I tend to eat food that's already at home. Got my mom to stop buying lotions, shampoo, & conditioner until she finishes the one's she has.
Thank you for including the gradual minimilist which I now see is what I am! I would love to be able to change to a faster pace but I doubt that I would. Slow & steady is my way. 😉
I'm definitely an eco minimalist! I'm so passionate about the environment and our relationship with the planet that sustains us. I've also got strains of frugal and practical minimalism, and have definitely been gradual about my process. Now I've officially crossed wires with my fiancé, who used to be the more minimal between us.
I love this video concept!! I didn't realize there were so many types of minimalists!! I definitely resonated with a few. I feel like I've been a "gradual" minimist for about...6 months? 9 months? Slowly transforming into a practical minimalist and would ideally like to become a frugal minimalist.
Practical one I guess. Ever since I’ve found that I kept consuming stuff just for the chase of it, I’ve cleared so much unnecessary stuff then I became naturally mindful about saving more and eco-friendly lifestyle. It helps me to focus on the fundamentals instead of just stuff.
I would coincided myself an eco minimalist and a piece of mind minimalist which to me is a combination of practical and aesthetic, both serving to bring calmness, less stress. Easier and smoother day to day living. I am also in another category which I've heard been called the game playing minimalist. I find it so fun to try and set goals and get rind of the most I can see if I can get goals and how far I can go, it's just exciting and addictive to play games and see how well you can do bettering yourself each time even if its bot considering the mindfulness and benefits, similar to the gradual minimalist some could say
I definitely identify with Practical the most with a sprinkle of green as well as some things have been a gradual change. I love that you brought up adding more to the family means there will essentially be more items in the home ❤️ Great video and I love your sunshine personality!!
I'd say I'm 40% practical, 40% gradual, 10% frugal, and 10% green. I have ADHD and OCD, so the practical aspect has allowed me to mainstream routines and enhance "activity management" (time management is a myth) while the gradual concept has allowed me time to adjust without becoming overwhelmed. Whatever lable you decide to put on it, I have grown tremendously as a person since incorporating various aspects of minimalism into my life. I am also learning that being and thinking differently isn't wrong or bad, it's simply... different.
Love this channel!!! I’m trying to become an extreme minimalist. And relate to the desire to be a nomadic minimalist. However, I got married 2 years ago and want to go back to school and start a family one of these years, and that has won on my priority list of course. Though I still try to travel when reasonable or possible, and I hope to do more travel someday. I try to be a extreme minimalist by myself at least with my own stuff and count that as maybe higher on the scale of more stuff for an extreme minimalist but I’m trying. :) I have come a long way. And my husband supports me. He likes minimalism a lot and everything it involves even if he doesn’t consider himself one. I have lots of hobbies, and that’s a challenge for me on simplifying myself down. But I’ve done well so far :) thank you for all you do
That was well done - Thank you. I would have to say for myself "Forced Minimalism". LOL - I have always lived in a small space by choice - when something new comes in - something else has to go to make room for the new. I only buy or get if I love more than what I am editing out. I like the idea of buying once - example cast iron pots and pans - last a lifetime and for me are the best. Also beauty is important to me so art work, jewelry, and basic quality clothing/shoes/purse/coats and scarf/hat at thrift stores or new.
I lean more towards the practical minimalist side, as the main reason I starred this journey was literally when I realised that every new item I buy is a new thing I need to clean up and care for, and I didn't want to spend so much of my time just caring for material objects I bought. It was only later I realised minimalism and owning less helped me feel calmer and relaxed, and also saved a lot of money! Now I'm partially a frugal/eco friendly minimalist as well, though I'm still a work in progress in terns of living a low impact life😅
Love this! Amazing to see how these different elements have played a part in your journey. 💙 And I feel like all of us could really stand to benefit from living a bit more low impact. It definitely takes time to cultivate that though!
❤️❤️❤️ This video!! I've never heard it put quite like this. I've always just thought there were minimalists who intentionally live with less or extreme minimalist that just take it to the next level but still beneficial for them. I guess it all boils down to what you really truly want. I definitely identify more with the Frugal minimalist and the Practical minimalist.
I would say I'm a combination of a practical minimalist and a nomadic minimalist. I have the certain set of things I normally use that can all fit in my bag and be ready to go in 5 minutes but I like to have a home base to return to. My home base has things that help me function better on a day to day basis but that just don't feel practical when I'm out and about. At home it is entirely practical minimalism but I have learned how to be selective with things I use frequently so I can pick up and go at any time.
gradual, practical, green minimalist; as an artist and teacher I want to hold on to (repurpose, upcycle, reuse) things that might be useful; but learning to let go of clutter and live with less. Finding a happy balance. Definitely in my mindset now I evaluate new purchases and think can I buy this used, do I really need this, does a friend have one I can use? etc
I think I’m a combination of Practical, Green and Gradual Minimalist. We rent our house and we never know when we need to move. It would be easier to have less to pack and move. I also appreciate being able to live at home without having to clean all.the.time. I have nearly no single use items and we can skip a trash day or two. Our grocery bill is higher, but our overall spending is way lower! I have stuff ready to go out, but with COVID, I need to wait until the thrift stores can take them.
Love love love your positive energy!! With these awesome alternative lifestyles I've found a lot of more conflict-based advocates (more about what they're against and how the world is sucks) and it is so refreshing to hear such a beautiful way to look at things! Appreciate you!
I grew up with parents who were Frugal. That being said, I was influenced by them and am Frugal. I try most times to buy only what I need to save money for other things I know I will need in the future. For example car repairs, a new phone, new future etc. I am frugal when I buy food, clothing, cleaning supplies. After I recently noticed there were people into minimalist. I saw that naturally in myself. I do want to be more eco-friendly and am more careful on the type of products I buy and what it may do to the environment. I like things to be more aesthetic looking, but not everything in white. Simple, with some earth tone color and fewer things of furniture. I'm also Practical with what I buy. I do find that over the years I do need to declutter more and give things away and buy less. I'm on a slow decluttering process in my home. I hope this summer I when I have time off I will be able to declutter more. Less will give me more time to do other things I want to do and give me a more peaceful environment in my home. Thank you for sharing and breaking it down.
My Core is: - Gradual (a lifetime journey that lets me stop to smell the roses and soak in the night sky) ☾☾☾ - Practical (removing the unecessary so i can spend more time and energy on what and whom i love) 👣👣👣 - Aesthetic (release the anxiety associated with a busy cluttered trendy modern life, develop and curate a classic timeless style that brings a sense of history of reliability of home and peace and calm that lets me breathe and soothes my soul a true safe haven from the outside storm) 🌹🌹🌹 My influences are: - Green (sustainability & self sufficiency) 🌱🌱🌱 - Frugal (make do or do without save for rainy days sense of security) 💲💲💲 Things i'm not now but am open to later in life is: - Nomadic (retirement) 🚌🚌🚌 - Extreme (end of life/swedish death cleaning) 🌌🌌🌌
This is such a great video Ashlynne! I admit I was overwhelmed because I felt ALL of these things had to be goals for me as a gradual minimalist. I appreciate the encouragement that we’re all on our own timeline and journey. Your video really helped me clarify my reasons for starting mu journey to be a minimalist. So helpful! Thanks again:)
For me I am definitely a gradual minimalists and a practical minimalist. If you look at my home it looks like I have a lot of stuff but I have decluttered a lot but also I do lots of sports so I have multiple types of trainers that have a set purpose so I could t reduce the number further.
I think I'm a combo of the last 3. Konmari method got me started, and I've found it very useful & still use it as a way to assess whether or not to keep something. It's definitely been a gradual process-- I started with the goal to declutter, not to become a minimalist. And I still hesitate to fully call myself a minimalist because it has been so gradual. But I'm also at a point where any further decluttering I've done recently has been because I enjoy having as clean and minimalist of a space as possible visually because it's much more calming to me. I still have bins under my bed, things stashed in my closet & drawers that I probably *should* get rid of but am not ready to, but with my gradual progression, I think I'll get there eventually.
I started as aesthetic and have now expanding into green as well. I'd say the practical aspect is of course there too, especially with moving back and forth from college, I'm able to bring almost all of my stuff with me because I mostly only own the stuff I frequently use. I hope one day to be able to be a nomadic minimalist for a period of time if I can make it happen 😊
This is awesome! I love how our appreciation for different benefits of minimalism grows over time. And that’s a great goal of becoming a nomadic minimalist down the road 💙
I am a practical minimalist, with nomadic, frugal and green tendencies. The things I have I use. Although with the pandemic I have been forced to keep things I didn't use all Summer and Winter because I know I would have otherwise done. As for the green there are many things I prefer sustainable over the norm. Example I am in my last toothpaste, a when is done i am buying BITE, my toothbrush and hairbrush are bamboo, I use wool balls in my dryer, amongst a few other I things I do. I am also frugal when I can. This is a low buying year; for clothes I am allowing 5 items I absolutely need. No dog toys (she has plenty), no catnip toys (she doesn't like them). As for my nomadic self? I can dismantle my furniture pieces (bookcase, bedframe, dresser and cat tree) in under an hour. All my clothing fits in two duffle bags and the third duffle would have all of my service dog things. I have two totes one with Christmas decor one with sentimental items. To some these things might be too many for me this is all I need and my goal is to slowly reduce the amount of dog toys we have which is really up to my dog how fast she destroys them and reduce my clothes but I need to make sure I will not need any of what I have because is not really that much anymore
Practical for me! I have four teenagers, and only one is on board living this way, so that makes it a little harder. When I am an empty nester, I'll plan to be more extreme :)
This is one of my favorite videos you've made! It's so accurate because I watch a lot of different minimalist UA-camrs and based on the categories, I can definitely see them as different types! I would say I'm a frugal minimalist with a hint of green minimalist. I love to help the environment but for my lifestyle as a college student, saving money is a priority. If I can buy a slightly more expensive high-quality shirt that will last years, it saves money and helps reduce fast fashion. win-win!
Gradual... one year in and only just now making/seeing progress. Stepping to Practical, that's my goal. To just have possessions i need, a clean space, easier to keep tidy. Less clutter to ward off anxiety.
I think I am gradual, practical, cozy, minimalist. Mine started with having to move in a smaller space that I could afford. But I don't like empty. I don't like echoing walls. I do like small amount of decoration for Halloween, Christmas, Easter. And things I am not using I post on local give away site. And I have worsening arthritis, so its not safe for me to climb ladders. Thank you for your content. Benita referred you.🌿🍂🌾🍃🌻✌🙏🤗☕
I think I’m a combination of 1 and 7. I try to save money as much as I can and put off large purchases until I have the money. I’m also gradual because I recognize that it takes time to go through things. I’m slowly working my way through all my stuff and kids’ stuff.
I am working towards practical and maybe frugal minimalism. Time to deal with clutter and other things like dishes in the sink are not always there. It is a work in progress.
I'm only just starting on my minimalism journey so gradual minimalism is very familiar to me but I also think I'm aiming for elements of frugal, green and practical minimalism
I'm definitely in the Gradual Minimalist type. I started looking into more minimal living to help alleviate the stress and over stimulation that living with mental illness can create when there are just too many things around. I do still own more things than I want to, but that's why it's a gradual thing because I don't want to live with regret either.
i have been a nomadic minimalist in a long period where i lived in my 33liter backpack, now i live in a 15km2 place, and i almost feel like i have too much space :D Im mostly a practical minimalist, but being a student aufcourse there are some frugal aspects as well, even tho its mostly, just having money to buy quality items, when i buy items.
I would consider myself a gradual minimalist with a fast pace and i am on my way to become a practical, green and maybe maybe even extreme minimalist. I am also quite anxious about catastrophes and i don't want to worry about all this stuff if something happens and having less gives me a bit more peace. But it's quite hard because most of the stuff i have is part of the sentimental category and my room is small so it still is quite full.
This video was so interesting. I had always wondered what type of “minimalist’ (I’m still new to it) I was. I know I’m definitely not extreme or the nomadic, but there are definitely elements of the others that appeal to me. Part of it is to buy less to help the planet and to help me save money. But I also like the practical aspects of it too. Since sorting my wardrobe I find picking out what I’m wearing a lot easier to do. But I’d also say I’m gradually getting rid of more stuff and will continue to do so over time. But I know that I have things I’ll never be able to get rid of either. So it is interesting for me to look at my journey through the different categories like that. Thanks
Glad you found it helpful!! It’s totally true that our journey evolves over time, so it’s important we consider how minimalism can serve us at the various points of our lives. Thanks for sharing!! 💙
What’s your minimalist personality type? 🌿
Budget
Frugal 😂
Love it!! That’s a HUGE benefit of minimalism
But i want to be nomadic
That’s awesome! I love how we can transition from one type to another over time
1. Frugal minimalist
2. Nomadic minimalist
3. Green minimalist
4. Extreme minimalist
5. Aesthetic minimalist
6. Practical minimalist
7. Gradual minimalist
THANK you! 👍
@@spacevibes321 That's practical, I'd think.
Bc. in this case the (material) stuff stands between you and your (spiritual) healing..
I’d add 8th:
Mindful Minimalism - decluttering for the clear state of mind, not necessarily for aesthetics.
Aesthetic minimalism seems more of a visual rather than mindfulness.
"Clear state of mind" for me is the practical type. Bc. the material stuff clutters up your life and stands in your way to a clear mind..
I’m Definitely an aesthetic and practical minimalist... as a military family practicing minimalism has made moving less stressful when packing and unpacking
Makes so much sense! For that lifestyle I’m sure minimalism is SO helpful!
That makes sense. The soldier in your family is probably nomadic minimalist too lol

Many people with ADD find minimalism very helpful and also people who are HSP.
@@dianeyoung8068 yes, I'm HSP.

practical and aesthetic minimalist. practical = cleaning less and just knowing what's inside each containers / cabinets that you have are the best.
aesthetic = the clean walls, lots of white space but sprouts of greenery to break the monotomy draws me in. imagine getting home after a long day of work into a zen place
I'm a Green minimalist, with a touch of Aesthetic minimalist, and a sprinkle of Frugal minimalist! I love and care about the environment so much! I even bought some recycled fabric jeans too! 😊
I believe that one of the reasons why I turned to minimalism is because of how bad our planet is being treated, and the amount of things that are going to waste.
I'm definitely a gradual, practical, green minimalist 😊
So cool! That’s a bunch of them 🥰
That's me too! With some frugal
That’s so great!! I relate to so much of this. And I think my husband is in the exact same place
Thanks for sharing!
Also, I'm a frugal/practical minimalist haha.
Oh my gosh girl THANK YOU! That’s definitely the goal. Let’s hang out and chat. 🥰
And yes!! Love me some practical minimalism.
Practical and gradual. I have quite a few things that most minimalists refuse to buy, but they make me happy. I'm also working on minimizing other areas.
Practical. It helps me reduce stress and better handle my physical medical challenges.
Same here.
Definitely gradual minimalist with the focus on becoming the practical/aesthetic minimalist. 💕
Practical gradual and aesthetic minimalism is my combination- thanks for the insights!
Definitely a combo of a few of them
💙💙💙
I started as a nomad minimalist in the Peace Corps. I kept it up for both practical and ecological reasons when I returned to the states. I'm in the process of drifting back towards nomadic minimalism as I'll be moving abroad in a couple of months. I'll have an apartment this time so I'm bringing more than a backpack this time. However, it will be quite streamlined.
You are so cute! I’m on the beginning of my journey to minimalism! Very excited! Nervous but excited! Thank you!
Good luck Natalia!! 💙
Love it Suzanne! Glad you’ve been able to making that decluttering process fun! It really can be 💙
I'm definitely mainly a practical & aesthetic minimalist, but also a gradual and frugal minimalist. Great content!
Hi Ashlynne! I always wondered how many types of minimalist there were thabj you for this video. I am a mixture of a practical, green and aesthetical minimalist. 🤗✨
I would also add another category: the smart-minimalist (comes from the term smart-shopper).
I'm definitely an anesthetic minimalist. It really brings me so much joy
You are gradually getting better every video I watch ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video! First visit, I’m definitely a Gradual, Practical and mo towards a Frugal Minimalist. Thanks for a great breakdown. I had no intention of getting here, but simply started decluttering as a way to reduce my stress. The more I watched and learned from others, the more I was drawn into this lifestyle when I experienced the benefits of clearing out unneeded stuff and being able to easily find what I needed. I’m now 6 months in this journey and am gaining confidence through experience and knowledge in learning the value of Less is More!
i’m mostly at the gradual level but a bit of the practical as well.. it feels good on my journey
Based on ur list....I identify myself with a Practical nd also gradual one as I hv just started.... understanding nd learning abt minimalism.....also some one wrote about spiritual minimalist....thts also I can relate too!!! Lovely topic... thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!!
I'm a practical and gradual Minimalist! It's a slow process for me and I also follow the KONMARI method as well. 😁👍
That’s great! Konmari can definitely be helpful in the decluttering process!
Your 30 day decluttering challenge compliments the gradual minimalist lifestyle well. Didnt know where to start so im doing that challenge. On day 7 now!
Oh that’s awesome Christopher!! So exciting! 🤗
Thank you.
That’s awesome! Good luck as you restart 💙
I see it like this:
To be frugal, I have always been somewhat reluctant to buy stuff, but also reluctant to throw it out.
So many good thoughts here. Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰💙
What a fun video! Personally I'm more of an extreme minimalist but with my family it leans more toward frugal/practical.
That’s awesome! Take your time and just keep at that goal of simplifying your life. It’s so worth it 💙
@@AshlynneEaton Thank you & I will. ❤
So glad you enjoyed it!! And I love that! The frugal minimalist is a great one and definitely one that I aspire to more 💙
Practical one I guess.
Love this!! And absolutely. More people is just naturally going to mean more possessions.... no way of getting around that really 💙
I am also learning that being and thinking differently isn't wrong or bad, it's simply... different.
Frugal, green, aesthetic, practical and gradual ❤
But I’ve done well so far :) thank you for all you do
Gradual, leading toward practical!
Ditto
That was well done - Thank you. I would have to say for myself "Forced Minimalism". LOL - I have always lived in a small space by choice - when something new comes in - something else has to go to make room for the new. I only buy or get if I love more than what I am editing out. I like the idea of buying once - example cast iron pots and pans - last a lifetime and for me are the best. Also beauty is important to me so art work, jewelry, and basic quality clothing/shoes/purse/coats and scarf/hat at thrift stores or new.
Stated out as a nomadic minimalist. I’m more settled now, but still prioritise travel, so I guess now I’m a practical minimalist 🧳✈️🏡🥰
And I feel like all of us could really stand to benefit from living a bit more low impact.
Great perspective on this! I love hearing how things things shift with time for people 🥰
My Core is:
- Gradual (a lifetime journey that lets me stop to smell the roses and soak in the night sky)
☾☾☾
- Practical (removing the unecessary so i can spend more time and energy on what and whom i love)
👣👣👣
- Aesthetic (release the anxiety associated with a busy cluttered trendy modern life, develop and curate a classic timeless style that brings a sense of history of reliability of home and peace and calm that lets me breathe and soothes my soul a true safe haven from the outside storm)
🌹🌹🌹
My influences are:
- Green (sustainability & self sufficiency)
🌱🌱🌱
- Frugal (make do or do without save for rainy days sense of security)
💲💲💲
Things i'm not now but am open to later in life is:
- Nomadic (retirement)
🚌🚌🚌
- Extreme (end of life/swedish death cleaning)
🌌🌌🌌
Amazing! Love how you broke this down!!
Definitely a combo of Practical and Frugal. And still working on these concepts. But, have been doing lots of decluttering.
So awesome! Love hearing that!
Practical minimalist also right here 🙌🏻
I am a practical minimalist, with nomadic, frugal and green tendencies.
Great vid Ashlynne. Beautifullly spoken and very well explained....thankyou 💕🇬🇧
💙💙💙
Practical for me! I have four teenagers, and only one is on board living this way, so that makes it a little harder. When I am an empty nester, I'll plan to be more extreme :)
I'm absolutely 6 & 8 (Malwina Rog - Mindful Minimalism) and also 7.
If I can buy a slightly more expensive high-quality shirt that will last years, it saves money and helps reduce fast fashion. win-win!
I am practical and green!! 💚 and definitely a gradual minimalist!
Awesome!!
Practical and gradual working on it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
Cool video. I relate mostly to frugal & practical minimalism, but I think gradual as well as it seems to be a life long journey... ☺
Gradual... one year in and only just now making/seeing progress. Stepping to Practical, that's my goal. To just have possessions i need, a clean space, easier to keep tidy. Less clutter to ward off anxiety.
That’s so great! Love that you’re beginning to see progress!!
Practical and green!
Subtítulos en español, por favor!
Gradual, practical, aesthetic, a mix between frugal and green both are motivational reasons to me but in progress…
I'm a practical minimalist trying to become a nomadic minimalist :D Which also makes me a gradual minimalist?? Cool!
Haha amazing! Love that nomadic minimalist goal 💙
I'm definitely in the Gradual Minimalist type. I started looking into more minimal living to help alleviate the stress and over stimulation that living with mental illness can create when there are just too many things around. I do still own more things than I want to, but that's why it's a gradual thing because I don't want to live with regret either.
Love it! Take your time. Think things through. Simplifying is a process and it doesn’t have to happen overnight 💙
Gradual with a foundation in practicality! Thanks, Ashlynne. Your videos are my favorite!
Love this Anna! And thank you so much for watching 💙
I'm the practical minimalist. It makes my life easier. ❤️😍
Practical/frugal. Enjoyed your analysis of the types, Ashlynne!
Oh wow I've been reluctant to identify as a minimalist but maybe a part time minimalist but gradual makes sense!
i have been a nomadic minimalist in a long period where i lived in my 33liter backpack, now i live in a 15km2 place, and i almost feel like i have too much space :D
Im mostly a practical minimalist, but being a student aufcourse there are some frugal aspects as well, even tho its mostly, just having money to buy quality items, when i buy items.
Love this! And don’t be afraid to keep minimizing at your own pace 🥰
Very nice video. I am definitely a practical, gradual minimalist.
Awesome!!
