  • Good afternoon, friends and families! We hope you are doing well on this wet Wednesday!
Quick FYI - Both Spike & Heidi are doing well and we can pick up together this afternoon. Heidi received IV fluids and stayed overnight. The vet thinks the fluids really helped perk her up. No more vomiting, and back to her normal goofy self. Grandpa Spike is officially retired!
Thank you for joining us - things are getting busy! We need to continue monitoring the kittens' daily weights. They were each born at healthy weights, and all but one kitten had a great 24-hour weight check. The kitten we are keeping an eye on is the dark green-collared orange & white boy. We aren't concerned at this point, yet - he's latching and feeding really well, so it's possible his weight was off at birth, human error with the scale, etc. It can be hard to get an accurate birth weight as they expel fluids and begin nursing at different times & rates, and at just about 3 ounces in weight, those tiny amounts make a big difference if the second (24-hr) weight was taken just after pooping and peeing.
If we recheck his weight and he isn't bouncing back along with his siblings, we'll take a closer look. Like with puppies, these first couple days are critical - as Mom no longer supports their breathing, oxygenation, filtration, etc., symptoms of a problem may begin to crop up as their bodies begin taking on the burden of something it's having difficulty supporting. In that case we look for a reduction in latching ability or desire to latch, purple noses when feeding, lethargy/less active than littermates, etc. Most often, when we see a lower-than-expected 24-hour weight, it's nothing - the baby may have had trouble figuring out nursing, may have had a hard time getting the hang of finding nipples, and a variety of other "adjustment" reasons that they sort out between 24-72 hours. They are all absolutely precious. They are getting cuter by the day, as their fur fluffs up a little more and they develop further. They can meow as loud as their mamas! Pandora likes to stand guard and watch for dogs to hiss at through the door.
Robin is in heat and has been having date nights with Macchiato each evening. Right now they are still just courting each other. Macchiato is strutting his stuff trying to prove to her that he is the finest specimen for her next litter. She is accepting of his advances, but still not ready to do the deed.

Welcome to the Red Barn Cavaliers family home! We specialize in raising Emotional Support Animals. This livestream is with our cats who recently had their (only) litters of kittens on 6/24/24. These kittens are newborns so we are keeping an eye on them and monitoring their daily weights. They were all born very healthy and at good weights. Both mamas are treating the two litters like one giant family! They are doing a great job taking care of them.
We primarily raise Cavalier King Charles Spaniels with an emphasis on their emotional-social development. We raise our puppies for the distinct purpose of becoming ESAs. This breed's temperament is ripe for therapeutic bonding, and their ability to tune into their handler's emotional needs can't compare to any other breed. We are anticipating our next litter to be from Robin and Macchiato toward the end of August/early September. We livestream the deliveries of our litters, which you'll find in playlists.
