Not accessible for service, recommend relocating water heater.
"Did you fix it" lol 😆 jeez let him inspect it first
the land lady had to replace the furnace in the house I grew up in. it had been there since new;around 40 years. the hvac guy had to remove a wall to get it out because of the way it had been installed.
some of the old low boys were put in and house built over them we have to cut them up to get them out
11:37 Ahhh! Not so user friendly in tight quarters. 😫
Wished I had been there to give a helping hand
There is a product called Kroil that is a 100 times better and quicker than PB Blaster..Smells way better too..A little more pricy but worth it..I used it for years as an A/C contractor....Look it up
That was a tough one!
Good job Curtis. Man what a mess.
That was one big pain
I've run into some pain in the ass working conditions in ny 44 year HVAC career. This one you just tackled was truly challenging but you powered through and got the job done. Kudos Curtis! Thanks for posting.
That was a difficult job due to access. At my company you had to add extra cost for difficult access. Glad you were able to get it done. Really could have benefitted by having a much shorter water heater in there.
I had a Rheem furnace that had a multiple speed motor and when it burned up he said it would be tons cheaper to buy a new furnace and I did.
Sometimes you can change them with an old school motor depending. Those ECM motors cost about 600.00 alone. So you probably spent another 1,000.00 or more verses 1200.00.
Who designs these things? What an absolute pain to work on.
Now you understand the struggle.
It don’t get any better, unless you go into commercial or industrial HVAC.
More space (usually)
I always replace the board when doing a motor swap because the relay is part of it and Those contacts burn out pretty easy.
You only replace what's bad, unless you get an ok from the customer. Anything else is fraud.
I wonder how many code violations there was?
Well Curtis you sorted out that one with a cooked fan motor, Yes some jobs take longer, well done 👍 Au
Well done you do have patience
that compressor sound barrier, sounded pretty good.thanks for posting.
Time to stock up on parts.
First customer needs a throat punch asking so quick what the problem is lol. Hate people like that. Respect to your honesty man just doing the repair. If I was in your state, I’d sub your installs in a min and do them right! 18 years installing Ruud in Chicagoland area 🤙
Mr Curties ; we got to rool with the punches !
Thats enough to make my moma cuss and she doesn't cuss
Who in their right mind would install a water heater in front of that system?
it would not help. funace should be turned to face out @@maintenanceman1015
A lot of home builders.
A LOT, of home builders.
You gotta love non-permit work 😮💨
This video shows why hvac giys dont respect plumbers as much as they could..they make our lives pure hell on occasion..lol. Good job Curtis
This needs to be a code violation as there here is no excuse for an installation like this. My goodness, electrical panels require defined space. Do you charge extra for this?
Exactly the first thing I saw is the water heater directly in front of the panel 🤬
Curtis, this is not criticism, just a suggestion from watching you over time. You seem to easily get seriously out of breath. First, I suggest a good all-around physical and heart scan. Second if all comes back OK start doing cardio.
when you pull the furnace circuit board off, look on back side of board, suspect you will find burnt copper traces that connect to fan relay, 1st the motor failed, causing high current flow thru circuit board, vaporizing the board copper traces, causing board failure, does not appear the equipment installation in that part of country are inspected for maintaining installation distances, here in CA installation would fail inspection….
Agreed! Found many of those boards fried on the backside. Here in California, that whole install of appliances so close to each other and that electrical panel would have not passed inspection at all. Inspector would laugh at that and put a giant red F on the paperwork.
I thought you were going to have to take the water heater out. There's no way that passed code the way it had no accessibility to service properly. You're a better man than me. I probably would have walked away from that one. I noticed the hole for the furnace combustion test was right where the fan compartment is. Shouldn't it be right above the furnace? Anyway great job 👍,enjoy your videos.
the furnace don,t meet code the flue passes threw the cold air return would get red tagged for that
That water heater violates the NEC in that it obstructs front access to the power panel
Sounds like it's time to buy some extra parts to stock before they are unobtainium. Toasty motor... Nice job.
We all knew what you meant but I couldn’t help but laugh at your comment! We all knew you meant unobtainable and you wrote unobtainium. Sorry but I figured you’d get a laugh out of it too.
You always do such a great job.yet this time you missed the blower wheel..its pretty dirty..but this one was a challenge to say the least..great job mate..as usual..Cheers Mate
like always you just get er done and don't complain, after 55 yrs in the service business this one wore me out just watching, good job.
That one was a work out, American standard 4 weeks on compressor and cond coils and up to three weeks on other parts
Great vid
I have worked on chillers, hvac of all types for over 50 years. You are very good and thorough along with being honest and having integrity which is not so common today.Keep up the good work. I enjoy every video. Do the home warranty companies pay as they should? I have known quite a few people with home warranties and everything they called about, they got the run around.
might just as well run it on constant fan or add a relay for it. by the time you do a new board 200 motor 160 and 4 hrs for 120 per hr. you could do a new furnace the 24v relay would be a good fix.
Down here in So. TX Rheem and Carrier 4 and 5 ton units are scarce.
In Arkansas we have the same issue. I have not been able to order any Rheem unit higher than 14.3 SEER2 since the beginning of the year.
Good work. Where was the power off at?
In that panel on the porch under the three phase breaker was another 3 phase breaker that didn’t look like it was 3 phase turned off by the fire department
That was a birds nest of wires
I bet you could strangle whoever put that water heater that close
ole C forgot his crystal ball again! better know whats wrong with that unit by just stepping in the house! ole boy was wanting to know whats wrong right now!!!! haaa! i know i hate that when “they” roll up on you after 3 minutes of being in the house. i could tell it bothers C also. he wanted to say “you’ll know when i know!!!” now…go back and watch tv
Who turned the juice back on? That compressor sounds awful; I wouldn't want to sleep anywhere near it.
@@HVACGUY You Have to explain to all of us what in the world happened. Screen blanked then the loud condenser was on and the video was over. How many old dinosaur Rheem's have three phase? Or was the a SureSwitch contactor? Tell them they need to replace both the indoor and outdoor system, if they are like that!
Please turn on the closed caption.
I'm watching while at work and cannot turn up the volume.
Thank you.
@:58 is that a pvc compression union, going from ductile iron pipe to FNPT, to shark bite, to
PEX on the water heater???
Dude, I was waiting for him to bump it a then have water shoot up right under the electric panel. Sketchy for sure.
👍👍😊😊
Was wondering if the high limit failed ,blower motor should not have tripped it just the burner might if blower failed. at 33:02 or door switch .
Was that water heater in front of the panel?
Water heater in front of electric panel is code violation and needs to be moved right away. Insane how some folks build a house
This resembles changing s heater core in a BMW
S.O.B.
Question - can you balance these hamster wheels in the field?
lots of code issues there like working space for the breaker panel for one should have did a new furnace and face it forward. do not like the venting passing threw the blower compartment
hey Curtis what was the problem with the electrical you just pull all those wires out willy nilly and it was dead got frustrated cut the camera off next thing ur out side same story dead unit cut off camera next time it running I’ve only seen 5 ton> with three phase so what was the issue operator error or a bad board
That is exactly what I was thinking. That generation didn't have three phase that I am aware of. The video just cut off and back on. I don't think that was three phase but a Sureswitch contactor from the previous generation. They have like a 5-10 year warranty. But there are very few homes with three phase and 100 amp service on one breaker unless it is from the main panel to a subpanel. I think he jumped out the contactor, but no idea why he left us like that with no answers to anything. Hopefully he gives us an update on what happened there. Holy code violations.
Ur a crafty one
Another case of a good motor destroyed by bad bearings slowing it down so much it overheated to death. How many million motors does that happen to. I wish I had 1% of that cost.
The whole situation here is just LOVELY - customer is anxious to know what's wrong with his air conditioner. His LOVELY girlfriend is probably coming tonight and he doesn't want to greet her in an oven. Let alone they probably would like to play some LOVELY games. So, in a 90F environment playing LOVELY games could bring a heat stroke to someone. In the same time the HVAC technician is trying to figure out if he has to deal with the LOVELY plumbing if he needs to remove the water heater in order to replace the blower. After the blower has been replaced China strike again with that LOVELY Chinese board made in Beijing. In the end, the compressor is just loudly reminding the whole thing is ready to explode soon. Curtis, in the name of the all Gods, there are times when you just have to leave the whole house to blow up. Sure, first let the customer leave the premises as uninhabitable!!!
That looks like a PAIN in the butt😢
You're literally so sick
I just love how they always ask within the first time seeing you if you fixed it yet
