Oh. My. Goodness. You just described my entire childhood. LOL. Now I know why all the accomplishments feel empty and why I've been starting and stopping things. I often say to my wife... "well I only worked so hard in music because of what I thought it would get me." Now, finally, at 35, I'm learning how to enjoy myself and share that with the world.

Ironically , I always felt odd about saying “I’m proud of you.”I’d think 🤔 so what about the times they don’t do well ? It felt like it was about me as you said and also like the relationship was conditional . Thank you for giving me something better to say

This is yet another great collection of useful, practical, time-tested ideas for parenting. Have you ever thought that one reason that emojis are so popular is that they remind us of the stickers that many of us were reared with?? Thank-you for your work! (You should be proud of yourself! I’m proud of you! 😂)

So this is why habit tracking doesn't work for me long-term! Makes total sense! 🤯

This is also why you never want to make a soul single career over of your passion. It becomes a chore.

Another great video I was thinking that long term affect might be that as an older child or adult, people may may only do things if they have something in return. Not for being a kind/ person.

Quick question here. What are the stickers for and what’s the difference between chore chart and stickers since they are both forms of points which allows kids to exchange for reward?

I think you need to watch this video again. It explained all that.

But what if my son doesn't get motivated by a clean room? He's totally fine with it being messy

My nephew is the same. He cares nothing about having a clean room or not being musty.

He will care if there are consequences great enough to make the difference. Such as, set it up so his computer time is only allowed when certain things are done.
For example…his list of responsibilities might look like this:
      Homework done
      Chores done
      Room clean
      Teeth brushed
Clothes laid out for next day
When all those things are completed, then he gets a portion of time for computer play. If he doesn’t get it done in time before bedtime…he doesn’t get computer time.
      Then leave it to him.
