you know I was wondering about the fishes odd shape and lack of ability to really give Mamba a good Chase. I think you're right! I think someone dumped that goldfish right in the little play area, rather than it coming down from the lake. Thank you for the additional information about the hump. I didn't know what that came from, just figured it was a weird shape from inbreeding to create the various deformations people like in their goldfish. But if what you say is correct that it is likely from being overfed, it would make perfect sense as to why such a big fish was in a weird place for larger fish, and as to why it was so easy to catch compared to other feral goldfish we normally pursue.
Perhaps you, Anne Cole, or some other folks familiar with the pet trade in goldfish, could answer this question as well: Since almost every single gold fish I've seen in a store has been bright orange (or orange and white), where do you think all the dark ones in this park pond came from? Are they more commonly sold than I think? My main suspicion is second, third, or later generation bred in the pond, with natural selection for dark ones due to the bright ones being so easy for predators to see and catch.
