Thanks for taking the time to make and upload this. I have an '03 X5 that lights up like a Christmas tree. Going to see if any of this helps my issues.
Bmw designed all these problems to arise with ethier current owner or 2nd an third owner. I work on bmws an the engineers deliberately place all these modules next to water evacuation ports. From sunroof down front cowl. Also they us a biodegradable seething for their wiring loom so after certain amount of time, you get exposed wires etc. They also do their motors they same way. The 4cyl in their f chassis series have cam gear oil viens seize causing catastrophic failure. Their n55 motors same problem also plus they designed thier oil pan that allows oil starvation so rod bearing seize. The purposely have their oil temps high to cook the seals why also oil leaks. I've with this for three generations of their vehicles. The X5 now was designed to capture female purchasers with husband that have income to repair these units whether voluntary or involuntarily. X5 is junk compared to their other lines. Unless you technican stay away from the x5 they where drunk in the office coming up with ways to have car come back in waves to the service bay and have techs scratching their heads. Rule of thumb with bmws second had. Try and purchase from well servicedowner. Keep car for 2Yrs and sell and get a yr of 2 older than the one you had rinse and repeat. And don't finance these cars buy cash 5-7k and get some back and get another. E90 ,f10 535i, cream of the crop but have their gremlins as well 5k oil changes, do valve cover, service trans pan filter n fluid diff fluid and battery and altenator and wtr pump thermostat. Spark plugs and coils and you'll be reliable. Car cover for if parked outside to mit water intrusion over sitting. Their fun cars but theirs a price
Absolutely right. The only ones I really care for are pre e46. I have a 318ti myself but it's only a toy to me. Modified to the point of hardly BMW but it's light and perfect for a toy. I should get it running again. Was fun zipping around in a boosted m44/42 hybrid with e30 drive line components.
