I'm from California, USA. I've always heard "khaki" pronounced the way Dave says it. Never heard anyone say it differently... though it's not a word I hear often.

You should research “Crabs in a barrel" to understand why Key and Peele are acting like that. Here's a tidbit for you.
"It's a metaphor that describes a group of people who hinder the success of another individual or group. It is often used to describe people in an impoverished community who hurt those trying to improve their situation. The metaphor is based on the idea that crabs trapped in a bucket will pull each other back down, preventing any one crab from escaping. In human behavior, the analogy is that members of a group will try to reduce the confidence of others who achieve success, out of jealousy, envy, or resentment."
This is true but the break it down even more, this is about the jealousy of having another black male in the group. Peele's character is the sole black friend and is the popular one for being the diversity of the group. It gets you attention and get to be the "cool" one. Then Key's character shows up and outshines Peele's. Key is now the cool black friend, thus starting the war as he would have to share the spotlight as it was forcefully being taken from him. It's absolutely true as I have been the sole black friend in a group (or track team). Then any time another black person joined I got slightly defensive as I was afraid of what negatives that could occur with my social standing. Naturally nothing happened and it was a silly thought. But yeah, that's why.
