      This is a good point toward the argument for an older player division. I’d love for a “Legacy” division for 35+yo players, and there could be a different Top Finish amount for worlds invite for that fourth division.

    Harder? No it’s literally impossible to do unless you play the tcg and/or you’re a content creator for a living. This is the WORST change that pokemon has made. They made it literally impossible for people who work and have a life outside of pokemon to make worlds. I had my first child this year so I didn’t attend any events so I’ll miss worlds for the first time since I started playing in 2018. They’re going to lose a lot of players over this

      Pokemon Organized Play is just different than it was 5+ years ago because it has blown up in popularity and there can only be so many top players. Naturally if there are people willing to spend 40+ hours a week playing a card game, these are the people that are going to be the ones to get ahead in a system like this. In my eyes, the problem isn't that getting into Worlds is so hard now, the problem is that getting into Worlds is the only real goal for a competitive player. I think it's a good thing that they took this step, but I do mourn Pokemon tournaments how they used to be, speaking as a 28 y/o who started playing competitively 20 years ago.

    • @loremaster77
      @loremaster77 Місяць тому +10

      Well tbf working and taking care of your family should always be a priority over a children’s card game. Like you are 100% not going to be invested in it as someone who is not as busy as you.

      @mastertrumpet101 Місяць тому +1

      I slightly agree and also disagree. Yes, I do feel like if you play for a living, you have an easier time getting into worlds. But you still need to win games. You can literally play for a living and not get enough CP because you just are not winning at all. If anything, it does make it harder for everyone. I still do agree there is a slight pay to qualify aspect into the game now but you still have to be good to make it in. Just my personal opinion.

    • @kelseydoyle7920
      @kelseydoyle7920 Місяць тому +1

      There is still the aspect of you can go to 1 event, win it, and have your invite to worlds. So if you aren’t a grinding CP player who goes to everything, you have a few events to and try to spike your way into Worlds. It makes sense for Worlds to be more competitive with only the top end players. The mindset will have to change on what merits getting invited to worlds.

    They made the game pay to win now. If you do not have the cash and free time to travel to get the points and keep your placement on the leader board you are done. Before it was in the players hand to get the points need and than save your time and money if you got your points early. But now you have to keep traveling and paying for trips and tournaments to just keep your invite 😢 sad day for this game

    I’m not going to pretend to know why the Pokémon company did the change. I can understand making worlds smaller with hopefully a more dedicated player base there competing. But in my opinion I’m kind of goes against the antithesis of what Pokémon is. Ever since Gen 1 the story has been about doing the journey and collecting a necessary number of badges (CP) and then you get to compete for the highest goal. Literally seeing if an underdog can top the mountain. It feels like now, year after year, we’ll potentially just see the same people there until they retire from the game or age out of their current division.

    I think it would be interesting when the first Worlds occurs with this new format, someone takes all the competitors and does a deep dive into how they got thier worlds invite. The top top names will have likely finished top 125 etc in their region, but they probably won/placed top 4 in a Regional so they can settle for that path. I'm curious how many of the Worlds invites were actually pure CP totals, no automatic bid from winning a tournament. That will show how many true spots there will be; unless Pokemon will lump those tournament winners into their own worlds invite and not include them in the CP invite total for each region.

      @@kelseydoyle7920 Yeah, what I think has Ross confused is that the record needed to make Day 2 under the new system doesn't allow for 2 losses & 1 tie. But he's forgetting there's 1 less round of Swiss on Day 1, so holding it fixed at "2 losses and a tie" is missing the point. You still CAN get through with 2 losses, you just now have to get 4 wins out of 4 remaining matches, instead of 4 wins & 1 tie out of 5 remaining matches.
      Overall, this means slightly less Swiss on Day 1, which is an improvement, I think, because the absurd length of Day 1 is a big turnoff.

    I've been playing this TCG for over a decade, and I've gotta say, this is a dogshit change.
    I've always WANTED to compete at a higher level, but never have due to time and money. Not only is that still an issue, but it's EVEN WORSE now thanks to Pokémon. You essentially HAVE to go to the big tournaments which WILL require you to travel long distance (sometimes even to other countries), and even still you basically HAVE to win at these tournaments too. "Oh, you'd have enough points in the old system, but you got 126th place? Fuck off, no invite for you."
    Imagine spending thousands and thousands of dollars on cards, hotels, flights, etc., only to come in JUST under the top placement spots for your region. I personally would be EXTREMELY pissed if that happened. It's even worse for places like Oceania and ME&SA, since they only get 20 and 10 spots, and you KNOW that there are way more than that many players competing.
    And that's only for Masters. I don't want this to be a "think of the children" moment, but if it's this impossible to achieve for Masters, think about how much Juniors and Seniors are getting fucked over by this. Yeah Pokémon, I'm sure only 10 kids in Oceania are gonna want to compete in your big fancy tournament you always hype up so much.
    These changes made competing in the TCG infinitely more pay to win than it was before. Locals don't matter, ties actively hurt you, even if you WERE to get the number of points needed you could VERY easily miss top for your region, and unless you're willing to spend thousands each year traveling to different parts of the world, your ass is NOT getting an invite. The good simply does NOT outweigh the bad here.
    Unless this gets reverted to the old system, I as well as MANY others will never compete in the TCG ever, because quite honestly, unless you KNOW you're going to be able to spend the time and money to travel, and you know you'll be able to consistently get top spots, there's really not even a point in trying. This may sound overly dramatic, but this change will actually kill off the Pokémon TCG on the competitive side. If it's this impossibly difficult to participate, most won't even bother trying.

    Personally think making it harder to reach worlds is a positive change. As you said it makes it more prestigious and therefore getting an invite gives you more bragging rights. I will say they need to do something about the problem with NAIC being the last Championship tournament before worlds cuz it will suck to lose your position if you live across the sea and can't make it to NAIC to keep your spot if you're in the lower positions. It is a little unfair to those who are on track to get invited to worlds in other countries but they could easily fix that by having 2 tournaments that you get invited to
    1st one is a World Championship qualifiers where the top players get the invite to the world championship tournament. To get in you need to make the minimum points to get into worlds. You can only participate in the qualifiers that you're invited to so if you're from Europe you'd be invited to the European World Championship Qualifiers (EWCQ) then you get the top 125 there and now you're in the World Championship. I don't know if they would even be willing to do something like that but I think it could be fun.

      @@babyalexander Just because it doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean it doesn't affect other people who actually play this game. If you're casual, fine. Don't speak on competitive shit

      @@darthf698If you’re not good enough why do you expect to go? Win a regional first and you will be automatically invited anyway.

      @@darthf698you're being rather rude to a person who simply wanted to share their valid perspective. When you say that these changes affect "people who actually play this game" you're suggesting that this person isn't "actually" playing the game just because they play casually. You're invalidating their experience as a player. As a casual player, their optimism towards casual rewards is just as valid as your frustration towards the world's qualification.

    any change that makes players actually play the game instead of slow playing is a welcome change.
    pokemon tcg is a soft game, and as expected so are the players. play for a win? nah, sitting in a chair pretending its some big brain math required to play a childrens card game is baffling, the last worlds match set a precendent and now cheap parlor tricks are continously attempted on the broadcasts and its horrible to watch.

    How does Japan fit into that? Surely they aren't part of Oceana.

      Japanese tournaments are entirely separate from the rest of the world. They have their own circuit of qualifying tournaments that have a lottery, some players have to wait years just to play in one tournament where they could qualify for Worlds, and I believe you need to place Top 8 to make it. It's really cutthroat.
