This was a BUSY week! We are working hard to get things ready before summer officially “starts” but the busy season has been here for a bit now.
Levi and his Dad set the final cabin log while Becca finished prepping for potatoes to be planted. The hügelkultur bed still has some work to be done and planting will be well on the way by our next video! Planting no earlier than Memorial Day here is very normal though.

Fantastic, the last log is done. Levi and his Dad worked hard getting those up. You are going to have a beautiful garden.Henry is getting so big. You might find that a back carrier is easier to carry him around. Great progress!!

Great progress. When we built our log home many years ago a lot of our logs were discolored and a few had mold. The guy who furnished our logs said no worries. When your done mix a bleach and water solution and apply with a pump up garden sprayer. We followed his instructions and all our logs turned very light colored. The dark spots and mold were gone. Then you can stain it as light or dark as you want. We did this on the inside and outside before the windows were installed. Thats important as you dont want bleach to get on the window seals! Its going to be a great milestone once your cabin is dried in! Keep up the good work!!!
Yep we're on the bleach game now! Hoping to be staining soon but that mold sure is nasty.
Both ash from the fire and sawdust are great to add in your soil. Hydrogen peroxide will kill the mold fairly cheaply. Your cabin is beautiful.

Just think of the memories you guys are going to have building a beautiful cabin like that with your dad and your beautiful little son laying in your garden rows like that. Brings a tear to my eye bringing back memories of working and gardening with my dad on the family farm in the Yoop Upper Michigan. Best days of my life.

The cabin is looking so good! Becca have you considered getting a backpack type baby harness? That would free up your arms and be safer for Henry in case of a predator encounter. Bears can be a bit of a challenge at times. Not trying to scare you but being bear aware is smart.

Like you said Becca, it's not cheap building a homestead in Alaska, and add to that caring for the needs of baby, the expenses can really mount up.Barb and I are so impressed with what you and Levi have accomplished in a very short time. Really coming along good. Like I mentioned before by the end of June you should be fairly dried in and doing some interior stuff. Selling the tractor I'm sure was a hard decision but it did the job you needed it to do and it can be replaced later. Hey let's talk about how close you are to 10K subscribers. I been watching it creep up there and by next week you'll have passed a mile stone so congrats a day or two early. Take care!

Rhubarb sauce is really good in yogurt, on ice cream, on toast and mixed with strawberries or apple sauce for Henry as he starts eating semi solid

We are installing a wood burning stove. They are much more efficient and warm than a standard fireplace. ☺️
