As a Muslim, I 100% agree with your dad when he said it’s so much weirder that you date someone for 10 years and then marry them, as oppose to you meet them and you instantly just want to be with them forever. The latter seems like a recipe for a beautiful marriage, whereas the former is like, you’re going to get bored with each other after you marry, and hate it, even. There’s so much beauty in marrying young! Or marrying, as soon as you’re convinced you’ve found the one.
