Hello my friend, I have a question?, the material, what kind of material is that, respectfully, I don't think is jade, I have some pieces of that rock, it's softer than jade and a bit a soapy, though its beautiful, do you know the name of it?
Hi, this was a piece of nephrite jade to my best guess. It was an piece from near the outer edge of the boulder so might have been some softer rind in it.
Kia ora mate, just woundering where you get your Hourglass Burr, from ? I have had a look online but can't find any in nz. Also watched another video of your toki making, where do you get your sand paper from that you put on your pottery wheel? Isnit just wet and dry ? Or is it a special dimond paper. Thanks so much
At the 30 second mark in the video, you cut a chunk of the end. If you had been using a hand tool, like a Dremel, with a diamond cutter, how long would you expect that cut to take? I just spent half an hour cutting a corner of a piece. Does that sound right? Thanks!
Hi, That sounds like too long to me, check the edge of the cutter the diamond grit may be worn off, and your trying to cut it with metal. If so then it can sometimes leave dark grey marks on the stone.
My question is that I have seen Jade carvers add a water system to their flex shaft or micro motor with a copper pipe and tubing. How effective is that really
It must be pretty good as lots of people have it. I've never used it so can't comment, what I have works for me so far, one day I might try and make on of those.
Quick question. I got a pendant that I drilled a hole to make into a pendant. I got a set of diamond drill bits, are there specific grit levels that smooths the edges of the drilled hole?
Very helpful! What brand are your diamond hourglass burs? I'm having a hard time finding a brand that has the different grits. also what brand is your polishing compound? the green one I'm using is not very effective. Cheers!
Hay bro. I want to carve pendants for my moko. How can I ethically get some ponamu? So I contact the local iwi of lake wakatipu? Or can you DM me a contact please.

Question about where you got the sanding blocks and block you rest the carving on when sanding?
They are the same blocks, many places sell them search for diamond hand polishing pad. I use grits 120, 200, 400.

Thanks for sharing. Do you braid the main cord or is there already braided cord available? Mahalo!
I do both, depending on what is available. I buy a black pre braided cord from a marine rope shop, they call is 8braid no core, in black.
Hi there, what is the polishing compound called please?
I use fabulustre
The music does not work with this otherwise very informative video.
Thanks for the feedback
Quick question. I got a pendant that I drilled a hole to make into a pendant. I got a set of diamond drill bits, are there specific grit levels that smooths the edges of the drilled hole?
Finer grit would leave a smoother finish, something around 400g or 600g would prob leave a nice finish.

Polishing compound is called fabulustre. The burrs I got from jadecarver.com I think.
