As a Rasta for 40 yrs I have never worshipped King Salassie as God. I see him as an inspiration that I have a king to look up to rather than just the white kings and queens. I looked up to him as a person who tried his best to bring his country into the 20th century. Building schools, universities, hospitals and wanting his people and those of other African states to educate themselves to centeralise and organise. He is the only black king to have fought a European country and win. I dont believe in a bible translated by a person who promoted bisexuallty. I dont believe in a bible that tells us to be obedient to slave masters. However I do believe that each to his own and big up and ask for blessings to sister Judy Mowatt in which ever path she takes.
The idea that Rastafari sees Sellasie as God came out of a cery specific moment in time when we didnt have the language and terminology to say a divine being or God elect or embodiment of the holy trinity etc. It doesnt take common sense to know that H.I.M. Emperor Sellasie didn't create the universe and within it. But I am hearing for the first time that Selassie himself renounced any claims to divinity, and that Judy Mowatt heard an audio record of Selassie's self renunciation. People can believe what they want, but every knee will bow before Christ. Bob Marley the King of reggae bowed before the King of Kings, and every created person will do the same, sooner or later, voluntarily or on judgment day. Great interview which confirms what I'd read on Catch a Fire: The life of Bob Marley (1984) a biography of Marley by Timothy White a Jamaican journalist and close family friend... On a stormy night, Judy said a lightning bolt seemingly hung over Bob's framed photo in her house. Her husband later informed her, Bob had had gone...Glad she's set the record straight about 2 songs from the Wailers Burnin' album, Hallelujah Time and Pass it on (i believe) credited to her but actually written by Bunny Wailer under the pseudonym Jean Watts who was actually his wife.....

Rastas are christian, there are people within the rasta faith who are confused i admit, but true rastas are christian, they follow the bible even more than the traditional christians, abstaining from certain foods, not celebrating holidays, and observing the bible and living it's word. Bob Marley songs had text all throughout the bible. Rasta just believe in a black christ not a white one thats the only difference from traditional christians and rasta.

At least he was wise enough to know who held the destiny of men in their hands. Contrary to what many rastas believe, Bob Marley accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Judy is right. Bob did convert in his dying days. In addition to what she disclosed , there was an Ethiopian orthodox priest who said that he baptized Bob prior to his death. Rasta’s try to twist that as not being a full conversion but a Rasta rights of passage. However the priest was clear that Bob was converted.

But you do also hear, Bob say in one of his songs, So much things to say, He remembers when they crucified Jesus Christ.......

He's the guy that talks through a movie and doesn't know what was said. I don't think he knows what she is saying because he is dub talking over her. If you were to ask him what he deleted he wouldn't even know. Does he care? Is he indifferent or upset about the truth? Does he want us to praise his intelligence? Praise Jesus! amen.
