    Vienna, Budapest or Prague?

    • @FromtheWindowSeat
      @FromtheWindowSeat 4 роки тому +4

      Budapest is my favourite of those three. 😉
      Less touristy than Prague and more Eastern and characterful than Vienna.

      Yet to visit Vienna, but I loved Budapest!!! I was only 16 when I went to Prague and was there to take part in a pageant of all things, so probably didn’t appreciate it. Will go back some day. Great video as always.

    Lovely video! I packed my things and moved to Vienna some 2 years ago without knowing anything about this city and not even speaking german. Best thing I´ve ever done! Close to everything! A bus ride for some 30 minutes and you sit in a vineyard overlooking the city having local wine and food. Train to Budapest and Prague as well as Venice. This is a city that you will never get tired from.

      I live in Vienna and I'm Serbian.
      People from Balkan and Turkey arrived here 30 years ago, as Austrians needed to import labour.
      Today 40-50% of residents of Vienna have a foreign origin.
      Most of us are into service business like cleaning, truck and taxi drivers, construction workers,...
      What I noticed when I started learning about Vienna history, is that most of the working-class people do not know a lot about it, and spend most of the time after work in parks close to their apartments and not visiting city center that often.
      I think part of it is because of education, but also hard work - some people I know are just too tired and enjoy few hours with family before going to bed.
      If You have to work from 7 or 8, You have to get up really early take Your child to kindergarten or school, drive to work and back...

      @@f52023 ummm, "immigration to Austria" started to be a thing in the 1970s (not "30 years ago"); but you are correct, most immigrants (to Austria) have come from Yugoslavia (in the 1970s, and 1980s; then, since the 1990s, from Serbia), from Germany, and from Turkey. As you, probably, know by now, a critical aspect to integration of immigrants (something the Austrians, most definitely, expect of immigrants) is immersion in the host/local (and, in this case, the Austrian) culture; which begs the question: why do immigrants (to Austria) work such long hours?!? Is it even legal for the (Austrian) employers to allow for that, i.e. isn't that considered exploitation (on the part of the Austrian employers)?!?

    Great video, and very accurate info about one of my favorite world cities. As a retired U.S. diplomat, I served at the American Embassy in Vienna from 1991-93, during my first Foreign Service assignment. In the years following, I've made as many trips back as I could. :)

    The best part of Austria is outside the city, but I really enjoyed Schonbrunn palace and the kuntshistorisches museum. Highly recommend those two for people who are interested. Also, the street food was great... had a lot of Turkish food. And, of course, having an ice cream in the park. I can’t believe you don’t like sweets! What kind of monster are you?!

    Neat video. You do have a rather peculiar definition of "little" though. At a population of 2 mio (city proper), give or take, according to Wikipedia, the city is the 7-8th largest city in the EU. I'd call it a mid sized city, punching seriously above its weight in some areas and not so much in others. I am also not sure if the Mariahilferstraße is really all that small. It is much more relaxed than for example Oxford Street in London (which has a similar length), simply because pedestrians have much more space there and aren't pushed to the sidelines by car traffic.

    Vienna is most livable city, clean, easy going, interesting cultural, artistic hub, with London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, most vibrant one there is. You can feel it was imperial capital. While Prague and Budapest, have mysterious alure in compare to Vienna

    As a local I was so happy that you actually visited Brunnenmarkt and some places outside the first district. There is so much to experience outside the city centre which most people sadly but understandably never get to see. I think this is the best depiction of Vienna I have seen on UA-cam!

    Helo Mitchell, I was looking your vidio, it was very nice, just a bit pity since a lot of European people like to use car to travel around EU countries. It will be nice if you can also talk about how or where to put, or parking system for people who didn't use hotel parking, non?

    About your complaining about Uber and Socialism. First of all, Vienna is social-democratic, big difference! Secondly, as soon as Uber has proper wages and securities for it`s workers, there is no problem here. If you try to cheese the workers, we won't allow that here in vienna! It has always been a city of workers!

    • @MitchellTravels
      @MitchellTravels  4 роки тому +2

      I mean, I actually had a conversation with a Viennese Uber driver and he shared his complaints, so that’s how it ended up in a very tiny tiny portion of this episode.
