I just sold a 2009 G8 GT yesterday. Best car I ever owned, but not feasible for where I live now. I've drifted the car several times and it handles exactly as this video suggests. Fun to drive, appealing looks, super tight suspension... anyone who drives it is going to have tons of fun!
I just bought this car last week and man it's a hell of a steal! Already I see I'm gonna have to invest in new tires soon! I live in Atlanta and u see sport sedans/coupes everywhere (g35, 335i, is350) and this thing smokes em all. I haven't seen anyone else with my car yet, I love it, so glad I made this decision. And the interior is pure sex, black and red leather, Blaupunkt sound system, digital everything. If you're contemplating getting this car, you'll be sold after the test drive!
I love the new G8! I can't wait to test drive the new G8 GXP! I've already driven the G8 GT & all I have to say is AWESOME!! Thanks for the great video's! =)
@Futuregohan14: update! As of the first week of October, I flew all the way from New Hampshire to Ohio and snagged an unbelievable deal on a 2009 Stryker Blue G8 GT. The dealer picked me up at the airport and everything! It was a very exciting 14 hour drive home
I just bought an '08 Calais with 90,000klm on it or 50,000miles (L98 and some trim differences but very similar to this car) and it's sensational. Feels much lighter than it is. My previous ride was 160kg lighter and not as nimble. Also the range of seating positions for folks of different sizes is huge. Holden have a 7' guy who can drive it, I'm 6'4" and my sister says "most comfortable she's driven" and she's 5'6". FUN.
The blind test thing only works if you wear gloves. The interior materials (seats/dash etc) of these things are super cheap, but they had to save somewhere. I still love this friggin car.
Everything the Bonneville and Grand Prix GXP couldn't be is right here. I wouldn't dream of buying anything but pre-owned at this point after having seen this car.
i just got an 09 G8 GT tonight with 4k miles on it for 25grand- it drives smooth as hell and you dont hear the engine inside. very room interior and every luxury is power operated with an 11 speaker amped sound system and 6 disc changer. 360 some horses throws you back in your seat, i got up to 140 on the highway and backed off- its scary because it feels like youre going 50. remote starter on switchblade key is pretty spiffy too.
@TheOsoriver holden are going to export the Commodore again in 2012 but this time it will be a chevy and instead of the ponty grill, it will have a small version of a camaro grill. Comaro (design only), G8, the new chevy cop cars are Australian.
they overflowed G8's onto dealer lots in the end of last year, hopefully they'll still make some through 2010 because now its really selling well as for a collectible the first 888 will be collectibles, as well the GXP and the GT, as for the V6 model, probably not, but thats just specualtion
To the comments about top speeds... I've had mine up to 136, the car is smooth, no shaking. I have no idea what it really would top out at, but I doubt it's that low.
@rhammod1 FYI Blaupunkt is also Bosch. Holden is a GM subsidiary and this car is also sold in the middle east under Chevorlet and in England as Vauxhaul so it isn't anything bad. In fact it is increased sales for Holden. It's just that Holden isn't in those markets so GM has to name it something different.
from what i have seen are large cars not selling in the usa because in australia last time i checked the commodore (g8) was the most popular make of car but i think it might of gone to second to the camary and holden was the second most popular brand after toyota but the large car range is still realy going well over here
@PS3ALKhalili Thats the one thing they screwed up. If we were luckier, we could get our hands on a Holden VXR8 Bathurst. Check it out. Its supercharged too. Actually the new camaro chassis were made in Australia, so they also like going sideways, and come w/ manual trans obviously.
Yes, I'm sure the V6 cars won't be of any interest - only the higher end performance V8s. I'd assumed the cars would be discontinued but I guess that being made in Australia they could still be sent over. Maybe they can be sold as Chevs instead if there's no more Pontiac. The US dollar is still up on the Aus. dollar and the car seems to be regarded as keenly priced, so maybe the cars will be viable for a while yet.
I'm on my second STI. I love these cars but you could not do burnouts like the G8. The STI grips like its on rails, hooks up hard and pins you to the seat all the time, you just cant get that same feeling in a rwd. You can get the STI to do a 4 wheel drift in hard turns but it's really twitchy compared to rwd where you just counter steer to keep the ass end in control. Not saying one is better, it's just preference. If you get snowy winters, you would love the Subaru. IMO, both great cars
If I can make a suggestion, please put that the 138 mph 'top speed' is the governed top speed! Its German rivals have to be limited to 155 with less hp, so the G8 GT can certainly do that. Other than that, I liked it.
I watched a le mans style 24hr make for production cars a couple of years ago, it had ferrari's, Porsche, lamborghini, dodge viper's and this HSV commodore( i.e a predecessor to this car above) also numerous other competitors. I give you 1 guess who won the race. also with no breakdowns. yes the HSV Commodore
@scarblade234 Its great that there bringing it back, but I dont think its going to look nearly as good as the G8 did. Especially the GXP, its gorgeous,.
I understand what a tune does. No offense, but I still really don't believe that. I've heard of tunes adding 25 hp, maybe even 50.. but 150-20 or so for the intake, 130hp increase from a tune? Exactly what tune did you use?
Inheritance i can understand, but half your money plus you have to pay insurance plus your 16 and in school. working over summer wouldn't come no where near half but you must have 1 of the best after school jobs in the world. i envy you, in a bad economy your doing good for your self. keep up the great work!
@gladiatorsworn The g8, challenger, mustang and gto, are muscle cars. Muscle cars are made to make those thrilling sounds any true muscle car enthusiast appreciates.
@tbryzeal The modern Camaro and 2011 Mustang V6s are not as insulting as they used to be. Both have ~300Hp each, and thats nothing to sneeze at. The V6 on the G8 only pushes around 256hp, decent, but with a car the size of the G8 is, you wont feel like you were driving a very sport car. More like a nice looking car with moderate speed. But nothing thrilling.
sooo jealous. I'm looking for a 2009 GT in Stryker Blue and I'm from New Hampshire but NOONE around here has one! the closest one to me I could find was 500 miles away somewhere in New York and it was wicked overpriced
The only reason these Mexican plants are so efficient is because the Americans/Germans etc have ensured that proper management and structure was administered otherwise the quality control would not pass their standards. Mexico is still a third world country for the most part and manufacturers use them for the cheap labour. And I'm not racist btw, I love travelling there and I like the culture/people, I've even picked up the language
I'm a GM guy, I like these. Not bad looking cars, but they are still too jelly-bean shaped compared to the Chrysler LX cars. I looked at these used in 2011 and they were way more expensive and way more rare than the LX cars, so the choice was easy for me to get a Magnum R/T.
@sargeGXP , GM is american company with companys branching off, australia is holden, england is vauxhaul, american is pontiac, the commodore is 100% aussie made and owned using 90% aussie products, americans did not make this car nor did they make the gto wich is a monaro,
i have a SSV australian car.6LTR.V8..they kick ass..we also have the CLUBSPORT..GTS..SYGNATURE..ALL GOOD CARS..i can do 280klms hr..not to bad for an aussie car...
Australia also made the GTO but they didn't make them for the American market originaly, America liked them and rebadged them there real name is G8-Commodore and Monaro for the GTO they have been building these types of car since the 60s look up Ford GTho falcon or the bathurst torana or at the moment look at there F6
The new G6 Falcons are OK. However, they don't look as good, although the Interior Electronic Display is slightly more advanced the Interior still looks very Australian (big and Bulky) the VE/G8 is still bulky but manages to have a slight germen influence. Oz ford V8's fail because they try and market their turbo engines. Great engine design but from people that i know that own them, say the XR6/Typhoons are unreliable. The good thing about the G6 Falcon is the safety rating ;-) VE is only 4/5.
Fritz Henderson(GM CEO) said they are exploring applications as a police car, which means it'll probably also be sold as a civilian model because it would just be retarded not to, so do not fret.
How in the world have I not heard of OnCars before?! That was some seriously professional camera / production work!
"The future looks bright for GM performance sedans" *Cancels the G8*

this was my biggest mistake. Testdriving a Pontiac G8 going today to see of I can trade my brand new car I got in December for a G8 near me lol!
You need to give more credit to the australians, we designed and integrated the global design platform over 20 years
thats right...
This video made me smile. Bc I own a G8!
I love the new G8! I can't wait to test drive the new G8 GXP! I've already driven the G8 GT & all I have to say is AWESOME!!
Thanks for the great video's! =)
Id rather have Pontiac just because of the design... love that split grille design...

As a die hard ford guy, I really like this car.
own a silver 2009 G8GT.....have had it for about a year, and love it.
Driving my daughters G8 GT was enough to make me buy a GTO.
I just bought an '08 Calais with 90,000klm on it or 50,000miles (L98 and some trim differences but very similar to this car) and it's sensational. Feels much lighter than it is. Thank you sir for calling it a commodore. Great driving by the way!
very nice drifting/handling man! for the price this car is a beast!
i just got an 09 G8 GT tonight with 4k miles on it for 25grand- it drives smooth as hell and you dont hear the engine inside. very room interior and every luxury is power operated with an 11 speaker amped sound system and 6 disc changer. 360 some horses throws you back in your seat, i got up to 140 on the highway and backed off- its scary because it feels like youre going 50. remote starter on switchblade key is pretty spiffy too.
"the future looks bright for the pontiac performance engineers" .... ironic???
😞
they are continuing the g8 as the chevy caprice...saw it on fastlane daily
Awesome review! and great editing as well! :)
where can i learn to drive like that?
Very powerful machine. For inexperienced drivers, this thing is hard to control.
This guy can drive. Great review.

Brother I am from Cuba and that comment is NOT racist in any way !!!

@CounsilHan, yeah I second that, Pontiac was my favorite too.
Good driver!! I have a new found respect for the Pontiac G8 GT.
you have a g8 gt and youre 15?
Should I get one? Found one with 120k miles for a reasonable price. Only had 1 previous owner. I test drive it and fell in love.
@PS3ALKhalili Thats the one thing they screwed up. If we were luckier, we could get our hands on a Holden VXR8 Bathurst. Check it out. Its supercharged too. Actually the new camaro chassis were made in Australia, so they also like going sideways, and come w/ manual trans obviously.
i really want to see a comparison between this and a genesis 4.6... i know the gen is just a lil more expensive but still!!
Yes, I'm sure the V6 cars won't be of any interest - only the higher end performance V8s. cool ride, i want one
Best review on you tube.
@JacobR343 and btw the chargers had benzes chasis
just bought one !!!!
that guy can drive!

I can't believe how easily he flicks the car around. I'm tossing up between an 06 sti and this car. Which one should I choose?
Yes, under the Holden badge.
If I can make a suggestion, please put that the 138 mph 'top speed' is the governed top speed! Its German rivals have to be limited to 155 with less hp, so the G8 GT can certainly do that. Other than that, I liked it.
love this video love my g8 gt
Love this car....
this video and the one comparing it to a charger are the two biggest reasons i own one.
@OnCars Check out the Holden Special Vehicles' GTS. Holden's pimped out version of the commodore/G8. hsv.com.au
I watched a le mans style 24hr make for production cars a couple of years ago, it had ferrari's, Porsche, lamborghini, dodge viper's and this HSV commodore( i.e a predecessor to this car above) also numerous other competitors. I give you 1 guess who won the race. also with no breakdowns. yes the HSV Commodore
it sell well here in canada becoming the best selling new vehicle
Can you get a GT in standard transmission? And how is the paddle shifter / shiftronic response time?
@scarblade234 Its great that there bringing it back, but I dont think its going to look nearly as good as the G8 did. Especially the GXP, its gorgeous,.
I understand what a tune does. No offense, but I still really don't believe that. I've heard of tunes adding 25 hp, maybe even 50.. but 150-20 or so for the intake, 130hp increase from a tune? Exactly what tune did you use?
@DOStylerguitar1 yes I do its a Holden Comodore
How could you get 500 horses from an intake and a tune?
I think you probably have more like 400hp at the crank.
Inheritance i can understand, but half your money plus you have to pay insurance plus your 16 and in school. working over summer wouldn't come no where near half but you must have 1 of the best after school jobs in the world. i envy you, in a bad economy your doing good for your self. keep up the great work!
@JacobR343 Lets not forget 2006 cadillac cts-v it has 6.0 v8 ls2...
I've gotten my stock 09 up to 143 tho
Tuned by the previous owner
@GXPFiend If u ever on a holiday here in oz, make sure u check one out ;)
@gladiatorsworn The g8, challenger, mustang and gto, are muscle cars. Muscle cars are made to make those thrilling sounds any true muscle car enthusiast appreciates.
I love my g8 gt. Nothing like it
sweet drifting
Bring Back Pontiac! (up if you agree)
@scarblade234 Yea I know all about those, but I'm sure were not going to be getting those in the States.
Good to see australian cars all around the world.
@scarblade234 Would love too.. I really wanna come to OZ one dayy. Mainly for Surfing and Holden's......lol
I miss mine...

Isn't this an Australian car made by HSV that was brought to the us?
@notecages25 They're not Monaros.. They're Commodores.
It only has a top speed of 139?
new v6 is will be amazing
@Singnature12 NO
start selling Holdens as Holdens
sooo jealous. I'm looking for a 2009 GT in Stryker Blue and I'm from New Hampshire but NOONE around here has one! the closest one to me I could find was 500 miles away somewhere in New York and it was wicked overpriced

R.I.P.
@hexagonview No kidding its a Holden Comodore
@gladiatorsworn Why? What is so good about an Audi, performance wise? Just because a car is expensive doesn't mean its a good buy.
But this is a Holden... why not just import Holdens?
try not to have a case of ledfoot on public roads, i almost had a heart attack the other day
is this v8?
wbt charger r/t?
@ugod02010 385 lbs torque?

Same here :)
Yea, like a boss !!!!

All you guys buy this car while its still available... And i'll buy it from you used in about 6 years from now :)
@gladiatorsworn Oh, please! Pontiacs have used red lighted instrument clusters since the late '80's early '90's.
DAMN America you wrecked the looks of the car with that front end....
