You described heat soak well. Most people here don't seem to grasp why you can't run any old UPS with a giant battery. I got a SMART UPS 2200 from work and after only 4 years it roasted he batteries. They were in a controlled cool environment but were completely dry when I got it. I did revive it long enough to see that it was charging them to very high levels, and burning a lot of power doing so - over 100 watts after the batteries were charged. I practically gave it away.
Thank you for this video I just picked up one and slapped a battery in to protect my gaming setup and I’ve been wanting to see inside this thing without taking it apart myself
I have always been curious whether such a strip without a battery protects better than a mid-range strip like the Brenenstuhl. Of course, this concerns all types of security and eliminating interference from the network for sensitive devices. ???
Hi and thank you for your video! I have had exactly this UPS for 6 years, the APC ES700, and now none of the three "controlled by master" outlets are working. I have deactivated the function "master" and the light is off but nothing happens. I even removed the battery to do a reset but it's the same. No one is talking about this problem in the forums. Thank you Daniel.
Hi Mark I have a question: I have tried nboth cyberpower and APC UPS changing battery to a 115AHm solar battery. The problem is in bioth UPS I have same issue: UPS shutsdown exactly at 60 minutes. I guess there must be a timer or something like that. Is it possible to get rid of that timer so UPs can run for 5 or 6 hours? ho cna I identify that timer? Tks
ups shuts down after 60 mins during a power outage or it shuts down even when power is on??? i feel like you are doing something wrong here, maybe the wiring in your building is wrong or something???? idk
Hi Mark. Nice video. I think you can (next time, next video) explain, who an UPS will work generell, and with witch technologie / topology the several UPS systems work. Thanks, and good wishes from germany.
Power inverter question. Cheap power inverter not turning on a controller for heated blanket. The es 550 backups does? You said its a modified sine wave, would the apc unit make a better modified wave Vs a cheap power inverter. I can't afford the expensive pure sine wave dc inverter?
Score for me a big company decided to replace one other battery back ups and I scored a smart UPS free thousand it is a quad rock height 48 V original batteries are still working on it
SMT series from APC is a good choice, much better than their Back--ups (including PRO). Also, don't forget that the number in UPS model usually means VoltAmperes, not watts. So, 750 is just 500W. Of course, a moderate PC or a server alone usually doesn't exceed 500W (my i7 rig with GTX 960 and 23" monitor consumes just 250W under stress tests, and another similar system with GTX 980 is under 350W), but there can be a caveat. If your power supply has active PFC (and most modern PSUs have it), then it can demand high inrush current at those moments when UPS switches to battery power. This current can take up to max rated power of the PSU itself, and not actually consumed power of the PC! Therefore, if your PC consumes just 250W but your PSU is rated at 650W, unfortunately you would need a UPS that is rated at at least 650W. Otherwise there is a risk that the UPS will detect an overload and just turn your PC off abruptly, which makes the UPS useless. So, for any modern power system 750VA might be not enough these days. APC SMT / SMC are pricey, though. Depending on your requirements, there might be cheaper options with the same functionality. For example, Eaton 5SC or CyberPower PFC series - they both have pure sinewave output, the same way as APC SMT and SMC does. SMC is a lighter version of SMT - no "smart slot" for expansion cards, but still pure sine wave output, unlike their older SC series. But SMC start only at 1000VA - there is no SMC750, as far as I know. Eaton is reliable brand; some people and companies even switch from APC to Eaton. But there's just one problem with Eaton - their UPSes with power starting from 750VA have built-in fan that constantly spins all the time, and some people find it annoying, if the UPS is meant for a quiet HTPC system or is located in a room where somebody sleeps. Some people even void the warranty and replace 5SC UPS fan with Noctua - that is almost silent. If constant fan noise is not an issue for you, I suggest looking at Eaton units. Also, their battery charging logic seems more balanced than APCs. There have been many reports about APCs overcharging their batteries and causing them to bulge. Of course, APC blames battery manufacturers... but still, I haven't heard that many reports about battery swelling on Eaton, and also Eaton themselves often use their "special" battery management system as their marketing tool, so maybe that indeed works well: www.eaton.com/content/dam/eaton/products/backup-power-ups-surge-it-power-distribution/backup-power-ups/eaton-abm-technology-ap162003en.pdf I myself also would pick Eaton but that fan issue is a deal breaker for me, so I will look for SMC1000 or CyberPower CP1300EPFCLCD.
@@camelCased thanks fot the explanation. Btw i use bitfenix whisper 450w, and 2200g and vga on board, ill upgrade next time. I think, smt750 more than enough. When the power is down, the screen tell me my pc just need 20% of their capacity. So hard to find cyberpowe here. Is eaton pure sine wave? Im using ups in my room, i think the fan is gonna be promblem. How about bx series? I need one more ups for my router, it need 20w.
@@mastertech7662 Bx series also is a low end APC device and not good for its price. Yes, Eaton 5SC and 5P series are pure sine wave. Only lower-end series (Ellipse etc.) are simulated sine. For low power devices 5SC500 (350W) is a good and silent choice. But a router could live just fine with almost any UPS. If your router is not located very far from your PC, it would be cheaper to buy a single high powered UPS to use for both your PC and the router. You can always plug in an extension cable into your UPS to reach the router - any extension cable should be capable to supply enough power for a router. If your upgraded components will not include a very powerful graphics card, then you might be completely ok with your current 450w PSU and smt750 for both your PC and the router. Although if we add also a monitor (30 - 100W), it might get very close to the smt750 power limit, if we consider the APFC inrush currents. Still, it's in theory and I think you'll be fine with smt750. To play it safe, it would be better to buy in a shop that accepts returns for any reason - just in case if your bitfenix PSU turns out to be one of those that demand high inrush current.
Use an ebay APC Smart-UPS 1500 mini tower UPS and the lights flickered off and on Monday night 09 January 2017 and the computer ran smoothly ! And the Smart-UPS has two 7.5 Amp. Hour batteries in the case. Remember to back up your internet modem with the UPS ! tjl

This video was perfect for what I wanted. great explanation about the heat sinks. I am going to disconnect the beeper as some else planned to do.

Which one is the beeper? I want to desolder it.
Excelente y profundo en la explicación, detalles a fondo, muchas gracias, ha sido de gran ayuda.

will you test this for efficiency
I have one of these but isn't it better to have a pure sine inverter to use with expensive electronic devices such as TV's and Hard Drives?

Hi There
Does this have power conditioner to remove unwanted noises.
Is it good as puritan ps 108 dc?
Score for me a big company decided to replace one other battery back ups and I scored a smart UPS free thousand it is a quad rock height 48 V original batteries are still working on it
But does it work? if not are you going to fix it?
WHERE CAN I FIND THE ESE UPS ELECTRIC DIAGRAM?
Should I buy one for my pc/server?
I can remove the beeper without much consequence, right?
(edit): Nvm. I removed it and it works fine.
What is the song on your intro.
I pressed random keys in FLStudio. :P
Mark Furneaux fair enough, fair enough. Sound pretty good though.

my CyberPower UPS eats a battery every 2 years, like clock work, I don't think consumer UPSes from any brand are battery friendly.

The inventer might be broken. BR900GI series seems to be not good at all, lots of complaints on the internet about them.
