  • Trikonasana loves to be done with a wide and balanced stance, where the feet press strongly down into the earth, one hand presses down between them, and the other reaches infinitely, with open and gazing eyes into the sky. This way of holding the form can be deeply grounding, giving the feeling of being rooted in the soil of the earth, while also rising up vibrantly toward the light.
The external form is composed of two opposing triangles, one pointing up, and the other pointing down, as if to symbolize the opposing movements that internally balance the form. These are not simply the movements of dropping and rising, but of turning toward and away from the immensity of the earth.
These are the movements of Sakti, who is said to turn toward the phenomenal world in the one phase of the breath, and to turn back toward her beloved, or toward the infinite and formless expanse of pure awareness, in the other. In turning back and forth, she sustains the continuous movement of creation and dissolution that gives us life. In Trikonasana, the heart is suspended between these movements. It melts between their gentle and playful tugging.
