They went to town recording this whole album. It sounds awesome. Most punk albums have half-assed production and sound compressed and flat.
The songs themselves are pretty good and sometimes very good, the playing is great and the sound is amazing. If you're the "audio type" then it's worth listening to just because of how good it sounds.

Sadly Malcolm passed way too soon in 1980. That’s like Nirvana without Kurt, the Beatles without John and George, and Queen without Freddie. Malcolm Owen was someone way ahead of his time, and ironically gone way before his time.

For a few weeks, back in 1980, I used this song as my alarm-clock : I was 13 and needed that push to get out of bed, so I prepared the cassette each evening, so that I only had to press the "play" button and "whooosh", there was the much needed adrenalin I needed to start the school day, starting with the menacing guitar notes and... Love Malcolm's wardrobe choice of the worldwide fashion trend of 1979-80 known as The Brights..bright colors indeed..Umm 1980 surely must go down as a tragic, but significant year musically. In many ways it signaled the end of eras (AC/DC, Joy Division & The Beatles), but also new beginnings (AC/DC Brian Johnston era & New Order) We lost Bon Scott, Ian Curtis, John Lennon and we lost Malcolm Owen. The very sad part about Malcolm's passing was the potential left behind..The music that remains is absolutely solid & ages so well..bloody heroin it's a vile drug..nothing hip about it at all...long live The Ruts

phenomenal band, loved "The Crack". remember i used to cruise down to the Red Lion in Brentford on a Sunday lunchtime for a few beers; they always had a "makeshift" band playing on that stage with a hole in the floor, for nout i say "makeshift" coz we'd get Mick Moody and Bernie Marsden, Nick Lowe, etc. Anyways, was in there on a Sunday and Foxy walked in resplendent in his trench coat and a Strat - plugged in to Channel 2 on whatever amp was up there and then proceeded to musically demolish the place with a stunning performance. bought him a beer after, then he bought me one and well, you know - what a great bloke, nattered for hours - RIP Paul; you're sadly missed...

Absolutely love this tune. A friend and I used to knock around in punk bands in the 80s , we recently recorded our own version of it . Not a patch on the original, but we had a lot of fun doing it ua-cam.com/video/Z6f5gnhuTOc/v-deo.html
