I have just gotten into film photography and the x300 is my first camera. It is honestly so lovely to use and really makes learning film photography intuitive. I think you're right with it being a good entry camera!
The X-300 I have was purchased by me in August 1987. It fell, has been confiscated, shot lots and lots of film, fell again... No issues with the ASA-wheel, it still works perfectly. Only had it repaired once when the film counter was broken. A wonderful camera.
Hey Ed, thank you for another great film shooting episode! I used to try a Minolta x700 of my friend, which I really liked because of the weight and it's good usability. I used to use several vintage cameras, started with Minolta SR-T 100 but it was too bulky, then switched to much smaller Olympus OM 1 and OM 2 and now somehow got stuck with Canon A series because of it's big and bright viewfinder and the right size for my hands. Over time I got the Canon AE 1, then the Canon AE 1 Programm and now also Canon A-1. When I go for shootings I usually take two of them with different film speeds and different lenses 28mm f2.8 & 50mm f1.4. It would be great to watch an episode with the Canon AE 1 Programm which is my favorite. If you like I can borrow you my camera and some lenses. Cheers, Kevin
If you look at the top of the ISO wheel with no film in the camera, there is a flat washer that backs itself off over time causing the loose ISO wheel. At the top of the washer there are two small holes, by using a pair of cir-clip pliers and a dab of thread lock glue just gently tighten, and this has cured the problem. My camera use to loosen every 3 or 4 rolls, it;s never came loose in the last decade.
You're amazing ed! I've learned so much about film and cameras from you and so have my friends. We've started making so many projects because of you so thank you!
Thanks.. Yes I did enjoy.. You are an inspiration... I love your approach, drop to knee and shoot... The subjects are there.. I bought too many film cameras ( About 40 so far.. Including x300, x700 OM10 OM1 Canon AE 1P Nikon EM ....... and on and on ! ) which I almost regret, but maybe I will find out when I go out and use them I will be very happy to try them all..
I hope I am wrong. (The video is somewhat unclear on this point) To change the filmspeed you have to press the small black butten next to the wheel while you turn the wheel. Otherwise you will break the catch of the wheel. I have X700 and the X300. I actually prefer the X300. It fells more comfortable!
I just bought this Minolta with the 35-70mm with 1:4-1:7 Macro feature. I have very little Idea but I am so excited about using it. I should add that I got it from a local photography shop for £28 including my loyalty discount of 10% :)
Hello! Could anyone tell me how the light meter works in this camera? I have an opportunity to buy one but I need to check if everything is working and I have no idea how to do it with the light meter
It is not hit or miss. The key to using it is knowing your lighting situation and how to compensate for its tungsten base. People who simply use it as daylight film are usually the complainers. I only use this film from golden hour to night time. It is superb at box speed with little grain and very cinematic. I don't recommend cinestill 800T being pushed at all. I find pushing it seems to wash out the intense colors and the blacks lose bite.
One thing I couldve appreciated more, as a newbie was listing the light meter readings and shutter/aperture adjustments from each shot. Got a minolta x-370 myself. Trying to learn a few things. Good job 👍🏽
Listing the shutter and aperture is not really helpful, as the light conditions will be different for you. Besides, I don’t remember what they are. I adjust them on the fly. :)
Eduardo!
edens edge I've been looking into that! I really want one to add to my x-700! In fact just made a video of me shooting t with ektar 100 would be great if you could check it out! Also how does the 570 compare to the x700?
It has a match exposure meter, and dropped the p mode making it a little more fun to use. Being able to see what everything is through the meter in the view finder and then being able to saw nah is great. If you do a wiki search you will find a few more differences but for me I just love the options the x-570 affords me. Look out if you pick one up you may never use the x-700 again. I will look up your video good luck.
edens edge okay thank you so much! I'll look into it!

I have a Seagull 300 and is the exactly the same thing. I love those cameras and the lenses are cheaply enough to buy (great glasses). Un abrazo desde Chile!
Another nice video. Will be interested to see the upcoming video using CineStill film. From what I think I know about it, it may be similar, if not exact, as the Vision3 200T film.. basically a Kodak cinema/movie film stock, tungsten balanced, 200, but the remjet has already been removed from the CineStill.. so, one less step to remove the remjet from the Vision3 200T you've been using. Anyways, looking forward to your next video using CineStill.
Hello! Can you help me to choose a camera? In my city are selling a minolta x300 and a yashica fx3 super 2000.....same price, both good condition but yashica with a 70-210mm ( don't like me 🔭) thank you! And very good channel
i shoot with a minolta srt101 (69~71 Version) and the MC Rokkor-X lens that came on it is one of the best lenses i ever used also i use a vivitar 300mm 1:5.5 zoom lens and a vivitar 3x-5 zoom lens
Eduardo, fun video as usual. I wasn't sure though if you used the internal meter on these cameras or if you used your phone. In order to really have an idea of what a camera will do I would think you would want to use only the camera's meter. I'm glad you're giving some love to Minolta, and would love to see you use something from the sr series or an x700.
1:57 Can we appreciate the fact that we see someone setting up a large format camera (basically ultra ancient technology), being photographed on 35mm film with an 80s camera, all this being filmed with a contemporary hybrid camera? How rad is that?! :D
@@edpavez Haha, I guess you’re right :D But still, I mean, it came before 35mm film and digital obviously. Kinda cool to have alll of those kinds of technology in one shot.

Hi Ed, I've always enjoyed the Rodrigo Recabarren soundtrack to your videos. I actually really try to think in jazz when I'm shooting street, how about yourself? Do you play Rodrogo's jazz drum jams in your mind while out?
Nice review. I've just picked up a Minolta x500 and x700 so your review has given me a good idea of what to expect from these cameras. I've just downloaded a light meter and both my x500 and x700 are pretty spot on so thankfully, it seems like the light meter in camera are functioning. I've also picked up several rolls of cheap film from Poundland (24 exposure of Agfaphoto 200 vista plus) as you can imagine for £1 per roll. Not sure if it's any good or not but at £1 for 24 exposure, nothing to lose in trying it out :) Keep up the good work.
EduardoPavezGoye have you done an X700 vid? My grandfather passed one on to me, along with a lot of lenses a flash and the motor drive. Love my x300. Meter works fine. Takes awesome images with the f1.7 and some portra. Or oddly, the lomo lady grey film.
I had a x-300, and the ISO dial went loose, my dad managed to fix it in 5 mins because its a loose screw i think

People swear by the Cinestill. It is such a hit-or-miss film, IMO. Very unforgiving if you don't use it the right way (low light indoors or at night).
