When I was a teenager in the 00s I was listening to motown, the beatles, donna summer, tear for fears, a tribe called quest etc. And my friends and classmates were the same. If I was in the school hall and randomly yelled “I knowwwww you wanna leave meh!” Another kid was guaranteed to sing back “but I refuse to let you go!” And that song is 20 years older than us Being a 27 year old hip hop fan and not listening to Jay Z is like a millenial not listening to Mary J Blidge. Like… how? The newer generation isnt interested in anything more than 20 years old and that’s a stretch.
We need official Sub-genres in Hip Hop. It would help get fans to the places they need to be. Too much disrespect and ignorance in these younger generations of “Hip Hop” heads.
Dawg! I agree with Jarv 1000%. Ain’t no fuckin excuse for a rapper, who claims to be a curator at that , not know the history. Not going back and listen? Not knowing about the biggest albums from the biggest artists in HH history?!? 26 is a grown ass man. Shit is disgusting. He said Biggie and Pac was whack. Dude been trash and his age for not doing the history, especially of an artist of Jay Z level, is inexcusable. Good shit yall
I am from Ohio. Most people do not hate New York. However, most people do hate reading and researching. If you live in NY or on The West Coast, the rivalry was more real and serious to you. It was more of an unfortunate news story on tv to me and my family. It was devastating. But we didn’t feel a loyalty to a side. People I know sided with the rapper they liked best, not based on that we being in the Midwest are closer to NY. I’m close to Kendrick’s age, he is my favorite rapper, but I was more familiar with Biggie and Bad boy growing up from my older siblings . But was very familiar with Tupac’s movies. And “Keep your head up,” and “I ain’t mad at ya.” Now of course I love conscious rappers more. Like Nas, Lupe, Cole, Rapsody, and Noname also. Atlanta is a Mecca of Black History and many great things, but their slang and culture is not used everywhere. We don’t say “Cap” as much here in Ohio. Lol. Unless the youngins started mimicking their favorites off tv and YT. We have our own stuff. There is even a difference among the cities here. I went to College in Dayton, their slang sounds like a whole different language than here in Columbus. Lol!!! Only 1 hour away from each other. Cleveland is two hours away, same thing. Detroit is 4 hours away, same thing. Lol. People often assume their experiences are the norm for everyone. Yachty was likely trying to rep for Atlanta not realizing everyone doesn’t experience the same things that he does or sees on tv from ATLANTA ARTISTS! Lol! I like Latto, Chloe x Halle, but not a lot of Atlanta peeps on a consistent basis. And Latto was born in Columbus, Ohio! Lol!

I would call Tyler The Creator The “Miles Davis” or more accurately “Prince” and “Michael Jackson“ hybrid of Hip Hop. He can moonwalk/backslide, write, produce, sing, and play Piano. 3.) I think DMX had a better 5 album run. They always went #1. The 6th one didn’t because Jay-Z (also great) was now President of Def Jam and sabotaged his album release. He also sabotaged Joe Budden. He didn’t like competition. He made sure Kanye beat 50 Cent in that album sale competition. 50 Cent was told he could not bring Em on 106 & Park, but Ye brought Jay on to help him promote. Lol. Kendrick and Em had good 5 album runs too. Kenny was nominated for an Oscar for curating The Black Panther Soundtrack Track. Em won the Oscar for the 8 mile Sound Track. 4.)
