If this was my first David Arthur video I would have assumed it was sponsored. He’s never this effusive about a product. Glad he got along with them so well.
I concur with you so much I’ve bought TWO!!! (Discounted of course!). These bib shorts are sublime. Everything you’ve said is true. I now need them to make a tights version. Thanks so much for your review. 👏🏾
I really like that this bib looks very understated and stealthy
Thanks for another great video David, I'll be buying a few pairs of these Bib Shorts right away!
Assos RS bib shorts have been my favorite. Nice review mate!
I took the leap and bought a pair after seeing the review, they were on sale at CRC $159 CAD! I wanted to add my input as I purchased a size MED - I weight 75kg and I am thicker and shorter at 5'7" They are Tight and more compressive feeling than I am used to, the length seemed long at first but worked out well once on. If you are paying full price then I would recommend you try them on first, or are able to easily return if the size is off. If you are heavier than me I you may want to consider a larger size, and if you are much taller than David the straps are on the tighter side.
220 quid..... bloody hell lol... i might give those a miss 😁. Good review though Dave keep it up.
220 quid, they better be "perfect". Pound for pound, Castelli is overpriced compared to others. Their lower range stuff are worse than many other brands. At similar mid-range prices, Santini and Kalas blow Castelli out of the water.
@@Dee-Ell overpriced? So what would you say about assos?
Centro Evo still the Best Bib I have. This is also a Nice Bib, great review🙌
That specialized sl6 David? Am surprised you dont have lot more subscribers mate aways top Quality video's well done👍🏻
Thanks William. It’s a new SL7 Comp with SRAM Rival. Review coming soon...
Now they just should feature a legside mesh pocket, then they would be perfect for me. I know, racers don’t care about more pockets, but I couldn’t go back to not having these. I have a pair of Raphas cargo bibs and a pair of their classic bibs, and I always choose the first one.
Jerseys have pockets what are you even carrying that you need more space.
works great, high quality construction, easy to assemble
Great video bud, Thank you! It seems we both have a very similar build... I've managed to pick up a set of these on discount in size M, but I just wondered, do you find Castelli sizing significantly different from say, Rapha? I fit into a size S or even XS in Rapha, but if we're the same build it sounds like XS or S in Castelli could be too small? Any feedback would be awesome!
Looks very promising. Thank you for the review. I wish they would make the legs a little bit longer, same with my Assos. That's why I am using Endura Pro SL right now, they come in a long version.
They will pull down the leg longer than I've shown, I've just lined them up with my tan lines ;)
@@davidarthur Ah, Ok, thank you. Haha. The legs look longer indeed on the Castelli Homepage.
@David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes
... forget about your tan lines... especially when wearing *LONGER* Legs or Sleeves that would allow *Multiple* and various length tan lines to create a better 'pattern' that will 'relax' to a *'Fade'* that looks less 'stoopid' when visible in other settings...
Plus, it confuses the skin as to exactly where the carcinoma should start...
#ProblemSolver - wear *LONGS* instead of Shorts...
*NO Silly Tan Lines!!!*
Less Mud/Dirt/Bugs to wash off, (slightly) more protection from scrapes/cuts/rashes/carcinoma/ChainGrease...
AWESOME!
I just took delivery of my Competizione today and holy cow - why aren’t these things recommended more often?! I felt as happy as a eunuch on a bike - literally didn’t feel a thing down there! So tell me - what could possibly be worth twice the price of what the older Competizione model is today?
So if you ride 5 times per week, you need 5 pairs of these? Or would you wash them after each ride?
Jerseys and jackets - castelli.
Bibs - only assos ( the expensive ones)
Absolitely agree
assos all day everyday!
@@crack0n did you try that chamois on the premio (progetto x2 air)?
So why the jerseys and jackets - Castelli? Why not assos?
@@wjmba£450 for an unremarkable winter jacket may have something to do with it.
How do these compare with the top of the line PAS, MAAP, Black sheep cycling bibs?
I just love when folk review ultra pricey gear. Of course it's going to fit well with 3 panels but that cost is extravagant for most people.
Rion cycling shorts from Ali express. £21 they are quality.
I just love when people complain about reviewing pricey high quality gear! Just because it's out of your price range doesn't mean it's out of other peoples price range. IMO I think reviewers should be reviewing the more expensive gear as it's nice to know if the extra cost is worth it. What's the point in reviewing $50 bib shorts, if they're not good then just buy another $50 brand. If I'm going to spend a lot of money on something it is most likely going to be something critical like a pair of bibs. There is nothing worse than cheap bibs!
David could you do a top 10 series of apparels, gear, etc. Thank you
for 220 quid it has to be damn good but then again you have never tried Endura fs260 shorts. I had one since the first PRL 100 and have ridden in them many 1000 times and still good for many 1000 more
Nice video. Good job! Where I live, being as visible as possible in order to stay alive while riding is really important. So, the fascination with black riding shorts frustrates me. If I was a military sniper, I'd love these shorts for their low visibility. But, it would be great if all companies making bike shorts provided a high visibility version for those valuing life over looks. Of course, this is just one person's opinion.
Maybe wear a bright top?
@@mbal4052 Hi Mbal! I always wear a high visibility top and helmet and use day running lights. But as someone who has been in a riding group where one of our mates was hit by a car, I am convinced that you can never have too much visibility. Make sense?
Front and rear lights. More visible than any fabric.
Review of this bike please!!
For anyone who owns these, how do they compare vs other premium brands, such as MAAP, Rapha, Pedal Mafia, and Asos? Edit: looks like David addressed Rapha and Asos.... still looking for additional feedback.
They look good. But why are the men’s £20 more expensive? Are the men's giving something extra?
Only for some 😉. I wonder if they come in cashew size for me.
Can someone explain the difference between knitted and woven?
Double the price of Castelli Competizione that Im using now.. wonder if they are worth it..
If only I actually was a dentist.
Look great, but i'll never be able to afford them!
Never say never!
SL7 review incoming!
Yup 👍
So is this pad similar to their usual progetto x2 seamless? That’s my favorite chamois and the only one I use, but I want to splurge with these bibs and make them matchy with my fancy assos jacket.
Update : bought them and they have been sort of a disappointment. Padding and materials in general are great, but hangers are freaking tight and when I get off my bike I feel like I've been carring two metal rods on my shoulders. I hope they will getter better after their first wash, but I really doubt it. Once again this proves the utterly total inconsistency of Castelly when it comes to sizing.
Have you tested all the brands ? Veloccio, La Passione , Givelo, Pissei, etc
All the benchmark brands when it comes to bib shorts yes
legs very short like hot pants!!! how is the compression compared to rapha pro bibs? the chammy is not good i had the free race aero bibs and felt like a thick diaper
A bit too short. Try Giordana FRC-Pro Bibs...Exceptional.
Dave, how would you rate them against GORE C7 Long distance?
A nicer fit especially around the waist and front, slightly less compressive but the padded inserts are comparable
What waist size are you David? I'm 177cm tall with 32" waist (82cm) and torn between the Large and Medium. Normally I'd go straight for Medium, but there's a warning on their site that says sizing is at least 1 size smaller than general sizing in my country.
I'm a 28in waist on a good day :) I found the medium spot on but I know a lot of people size up so might be worth following their advice?
@@davidarthur thanks. I ordered the large, definitely the better option for me.
Have had many castelli and not one comes close to ASSOS Cento Evo or the old S7 Cento
Did your castellis have the same chamois as in this video (progetto x2 air seamless)?
Not a big assos fan they look boring and not convinced they are that great comfort wise either the stuff I tried wasn't that great for the price.
Totally agree, if the chamois is no good, the shorts aren’t either. Nothing compares to Assos IMO.
Comfort is subjective.
I can never work out where manufacturers get the prices from! Not having a go at these specifically, plenty do it.
price bracketing, you create your markets, videos like these help with selling.. take the oh so awesome new fabric.. woven lycra!! there are a gazillion chinese companies who will supply you with woven lycra for an apple and an egg
How u rate Classifica jersey?
I like it a lot. Enjoy the more relaxed cut for days when you're just riding for fun and not worried about aero and speed, and I love the understated look of it
0:49 so basically i will feel like i'm riding naked.😂 Not exactly what i want to feel while riding my bike..JK
ps: also 1st comment 😉
haha! Well I've never ridden naked so don't know how it feels, but I imagine this must be pretty close but in a good way, if that makes sense ;)
What size? You have your weight and height, but didn't state the size.
I did mention the size, but they are a medium
If the sizing is anything like normal Castelli an XXXL should just about get round one leg lol #notforbigguys
For £220 I would expect these bib shorts to massage my sit bones whilst peddling then make me a coffee at home.
Would they be *"peddling"* coffee?!?
... or something else...?
I thought you might want them **pedaling** your lazy buttocks/quads/lungs home, but who would spend this kind of money on cycling apparel if they wanted to NOT Get Exercise, so, I think you are more confused than I am...
*(Typed with YT-Approved SarcasmFont...)*
Look fab, is it just me or are they on the short side of shorts?
They can be worn longer if that’s your thing, I’ve just got tan lines to stick to 😂
@@davidarthur 😂🤣

Best ever? For real? Looks as their best so far, but you probably didnt try to go assos Campeonissimo...still, the best in the world
I've reviewed the S7 previously, but I reckon these new Castelli shorts trump them for fit and comfort
At that cost, they should be made of £10 notes
So they copied the brand Q36.5 who's been doing this for a couple years already... "engineered" xD
Q36.5 has the best bibs ever btw.
Love their cargo bib. Only other brand I’ve used that’s as comfortable is Velocio
Never known a man get so excited about a pair of tight shorts...unless someone else was wearing them😉
Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no.
The extra 100 quid is the price to pay to replace the horribly non-durable red scopion logos with lasered ones.
And...it looks too short on your long legs
Personally I'm not a fan of long shorts that go almost to the knee. These will pull down longer than I've shown them though, I've lined them up with my tan lines ;)

i ordered bib shorts from Castelli. i am big man. got their biggest size. the waist fit. but the straps did not reach up to my shoulder. thank goodness it was my first order and they allowed returns. Castelli is really for SLIM SLIM SLIM people. Also their gloves are kinda odd, not keen on them. Event their cycling hat was too small and split.
two thumbs down for Castelli unless you are stick thin
No visible logo, no letters. It might be a great bib, but to me it is also incredible dull.
Nah, cheap Aliexpress bibs and a brooks saddle 👌 super comfy..
I scored a few pairs of factory seconds in a street market in Hong Kong for HK$20 each. They're comfy and do the job. I dunno how long they'll last, but hey.
I have bibs too, but I can't get used to the straps.
Regular shorts will do me.
Too short! I'm not a big fan of showing too much thigh!
They’re actually longer than I’m wearing them, I just don’t like super long shorts personally so wear them higher

200 quid they should blood well be;
I think Castelli have improved their clothing throughout their range. I just bought the competizione bib shorts a couple of weeks ago and they are better than any Castelli bibs I’ve had prior. The fit, material, and comfort are all improved! In case you don’t know, DON’T use softener when you wash your cycling clothing! I’ve been doing it for years and just found out!
On many of them, the care instructions specifically say "do not use softener". You just needed to actually read it.
@@Dee-Ell Some people are lazy, illiterate or both. No reasonable person would feel the need to use fabric softener on their bib shorts.
the problem with Castelli that nobody wants to cop to is outsourcing.. I own a variety of "Castelli" bibshorts and skinsuits that I bought from a company in Toronto called MEC and every pair was made in a different country and the quality is extremely poor. I communicated this to Castelli and they asked for pics of the problem product which I sent along promptly and they promptly ignored me and refused to reply to my followup emails.
I only wear ASSOS now. Castelli sucks as a company and the product consistancy is in the crapper. I would strongly advise against buying Castelli. every single product, be it jersey , bibshort, jacket or sock, it all falls apart very fast. Papery indeed !
If you have money and like wasting it, buy Castelli.
They look cheap and too short in leg length ... and how much?? Another example of cycling prices gone mad. - 2 years in development ... ? Its not a car is it?
They can be worn longer than I’m showing them, I just don’t like super long shorts
