Thanks for producing this video. I lived in Milton Road (close to the station) until I emigrated to New Zealand in with my parents in1975. I have very fond memories of growing up there. It is great to see the newsagent at the bottom of Station Road is still operating. My first job was as a paperboy working for that newsagent! I also washed dishes for pocket money in a Chinese restaurant that was located near the station, where the Costa Coffee shop is now.
When I lived in England for grad school, I worked out here in Harpenden and the walk was basically my route to the office. I loved that walk and the job and this made me tear up a bit. I miss England so much.
Thank you! I am an American who is staying in Harpenden currently. This let me know what to expect. I like it a lot so far, especially after a few weeks in London.
I've worked in Harpenden lots of times. I live in Canada now though so it makes me very homesick to watch but at the same time also very happy to watch. A great video, keep up the good work. Well done.
I grew up in Harpenden. I was amazed how no one in this video seemed to be smiling, they all seem really weary. I think it’s a lot happier up north (perhaps not as sunny).
This is exactly what I imagine when I think to little, cute towns in England. Oh sooo nice and cute! Many, many thanks as always for this beautiful work. Un abbraccio. Renata
Looks like a great little town. I used to buy a zone 6 travelcard and go as far as I could in any direction/network then do a quick tour of the outer most town and back again into London. This was beyond my reach obviously, thank you for this and many other great uploads
I am Brazilian and lived in Harpenden in 1973/74 when I was only 10. Such warm memories... I wonder what happened to a toy store located in the main street at town centre. My favourite shop! Thanks for the video!
Yes, please & thank-you - more towns/villages outside of London - would have preferred more emphasis on shop windows while walking by them (was looking for shots of yarn or book shops as you went by) - slow down while not in London - again, thanks (a pity these places are going to be so hard hit after Brexit)
@@WatchedWalker Shere, Gomshall, Mickleham, Box Hill. It is the most beautiful part of the country. Lots of old churches and pretty lanes. Feels like a time warp. Go to basically any village off the A3. There are books on good routes I believe
Yes, I like this. A place where people live. Would be nice to see all kinds, some posh neighbors, as much as some places where common people live, then where there is youth hanging out, and things like that. I presume nearby St. Albans and Luton are a nice contrast. A walk through Bury Park, Luton, would be an "interesting" one (for somebody who doesn't know much about it). But, of course, at the beginning you would need to explain that it isn't the whole London like that, just so that somebody doesn't get the wrong idea, ;). Luton is affordable town to live, with excellent transport links to London, and with large Muslim community. But I also heard that Polish people are the newcomers there. For example, Rochester (on the other end) is nice, historic city. For sure every little city has its own charm.
Harpenden is such a beautiful peaceful little town in Hertfordshire close it is to Luton and London. It doesn't have the "cosmopolitan" diversity" that most of the UK is becoming and are media and government promote as great for the UK economy and tells one that anyone that contradicts that is racist and not PC.
Beneath the surface there appears to be a neglected shabbiness to the shop fronts and some rather unfortunate architecture too. Even the girls from St. George's School looked untidy and fatigued. I am sure that once upon a time it was a shining example of what an English village could be, now sadly gone forever.

I live in that town

I too grew up in Harpenden (lived in Topstreet Way), and my first ever Chinese meal as a child was at that restaurant. Wonderful memories.
I moved from Harpenden in 1985 and emigrated to Essex. Lots of childhood memories. Of course I truly miss the pure snobbery as well.
I’ll never get bored with these videos 😉
Thanks mate :)
Many happy trips to Harpenden when I lived in Luton. Eric Morecambe lived in Harpenden.
When I lived in England for grad school, I worked out here in Harpenden and the walk was basically my route to the office. I loved that walk and the job and this made me tear up a bit. I miss England so much.
Cute little town. Love these types of places. So much character and charm. Looks like it was a great day for walking too. Thanks -Henry
Yes it’s a nice town and a lovely day - I hope to get out and film outside of London more often.
Thank you! I am an American who is staying in Harpenden currently. This let me know what to expect. I like it a lot so far, especially after a few weeks in London.

Never heard of this town but must drive past it once a year on my way up the M1 to Milton Keynes. Great video, such a lovely town!

Thank you Renata - yes, this is a very typical looking town centre, though property prices are much higher than the UK average here.

Those travel cards are very handy for getting around and exploring :)

Not much change out of a million big ones if you so wish to live here. Beautiful town. Great schools and lovely town.

I live just down the road, nice one! I would have hooked up with you and done some filming. Nice work!
Cool, perhaps another time :)
just exquisite. so very beautiful.
Hello. I worked in this town for 3 years 2007- 2009 at bp petrol station as customer service rep. I miss this town. I wish to see this again. But....
Thank you
everyone commenting seems so amazed but as a teenager who’s lived here for 13 and a half of her 15 years it’s absolute hell 😭
Beautiful city we add quiet thanks
How far from London city centre and what is the population?
IC, I believe it's 23 miles north of London, and takes about 25 mins on the train. The town's population is just over 30,000.
You should walk in the Surrey villages!
Any in particular you'd recommend?

Very faint but on white alley wall 11:28 logo!! Got it!!
Nick, very well spotted! :)
What a lovely town! It's like a village in a fairy tale.😍 But is the house expensive?😭
WP, yes, property prices are well over double the national average.
I love your walk.. I wish one day you do this in rishikesh india.. I will arrange everything for you here..
Thanks Subhash, that’s very kind, perhaps one day I can take you up on it.

Thanks for your suggestions Mario, I plan on filming those locations, as well as other towns and cities around the UK when I can.
Hertfordshire is beautiful.
❤❤❤
Was suprised to see myself in this video
You should mention the name of big city where it was or country name... not everyone can be from your place so not everyone knows what herpends is
Good point Mary, have altered the title :)
Where is this area ??
nice~~
How far is this from London?
Tim, I believe it's 23 miles north of London, and takes about 25 mins on the train.
I wonder how much Harpenden has changed from the early 1980s when Eric Morecambe lived there. So sad he died way too young.
I like this city
It's a town not a city.
Nice place to live
Blimey, hope the BBC don't see this video, they'll have a fit!

A huge car park, so glad i don`t live there any more
