  • Опубліковано 26 жов 2022
  • Recorded October 25, 2022
In conversation with Tamala Edwards, anchor, 6ABC Action News morning edition
Maggie Haberman was part of a team that won a 2018 Pulitzer Prize for its reportage of the investigations into then-President Donald Trump’s, and his advisers’, connections to Russia. She has also twice been part of a Pulitzer Prize finalist team: in 2021 for reporting on the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and in 2022 for reporting on the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. A former political reporter for Politico, The New York Post, and The New York Daily News, she became a CNN political analyst in 2014. In Confidence Man, Haberman uses hundreds of sources and interviews-including many with Trump himself-to offer a definitive account of the former Oval Office occupant’s chaotic campaigns, tumultuous term in office, and tortured post-presidency.

The best interview of Maggie Haberman, by far. Maggie seemed exhausted, actually, but the interviewer was just excellent.

Yes. Often authors are put on tours that are beyond exhausting.
I noticed she literally spoke with her eyes closed at times.
If she's exhausted, she certainly was still very articulate!

"It is a sign of intelligence and maturity and growth to say, 'I don't know.' "
I was taught as a scientist that it is the most important sentence to acknowledge and be able to embrace as a scientist.

@Stacey Obrien My parents oversaw my siblings & I doing our homework. They would question us on what we had read or created. They both emphasised the importance of saying "I don't know" rather than trying to make up an answer. If we said that, they would gently remind us of the correct answer. It created a safe place to learn and has strengthened my willingness to say it with confidence.

Having watched many of the interviews from this book tour, Maggie Haberman was her usual fair, careful, intelligent and articulate self so no surprises there. However, I thought Tamala Edwards conducted an excellent interview and the audience questions were so good and so well put. Well done all round and, as a baseball fan in Germany - go Phillies!

I was the first person to take out the book when our local library got it, but, frankly, since I have known about Trump for years and read "Trumped!" by John O'Donnell many years ago, then watched the documentary "You've been Trumped" about the disgraceful way he treated the people who lived next to his golf course in Scotland and how he decimated the dunes there (after promising not to, just the way he promised not to ruin the artwork on the Bonwit Teller building), I thought it was mostly a rehash of what I already knew. So I don't know whether she included facts about how he singlehandedly ruined the fledgling American Football League with his lies and double dealings.
However, I have the same issue with the "news" about all the money the Secret Service spent at Trump properties. This was reported on in detail by many news organizations when it happened. It should have been made more an issue of then and there.
After seeing this interview, I can say there seems to be a number of things new to me, but at this point I am so disgusted at the fact that Trump is still held in any kind of regard by any person in this country, I just can't get up the energy to read another word about him.
Why would anybody allow a piece of cr*p like Donald Trump--a spoiled, selfish, ignorant, lying con man--to talk to them the way he does? ESPECIALLY a general in the United States military? Are they only brave on the battlefield? Ridiculous! He should have been punched out years ago!

Thanks for sharing this interview. Maggie Haberman is an incredible, intelligent & perceptive, investigative Journalist. It would also be helpful to learn about the stress & toll it takes, on them to do work like this, especially with difficult People like 45. it also, shows how ALL of Us & Our engagement in American Govt. is so vitally important to keep Our democracy from derailing, especially with the influence of large amounts of dirty, dark money. Thanks, again! ----- Proverbs 1: 7 & James 1: 5 Bible.

I appreciate the introspection and very deliberate choice of words Ms. Haberman delivers, both in her spoken word and writing, always reporting in a very logical framework. Her style is so much to be admired for so many reasons, but for me, I most prefer her talent in having examples at her fingertips, which just proves she has digested massive quantities of information and can recall it so effortlessly on the fly. Trump seriously underestimated Maggie Haberman.

How can Trump value “Law and Order” when he obviously violates both constantly? Trump seems to view “Law and Order” as a means to simply manipulate that dogmatic set of aspects of society to his advantage. “Law and Order” types are easier to read, stereotype and manipulate than more liberal, better educated and more complex individuals in society.

Talking with the eyes closed isn't best for on camera. Authors these days have to work with professionals on how to present themselves, because most are not natural extroverts, and it's hard to realize that authors need professional coaching on presentation and being on camera, etc.
Publishers don't tell their authors to get this coaching, so they're really on their own to figure it out.

She either has had zero coaching on how to present herself on camera, or maybe she was having moments of micro-sleep. I noticed she appeared to either lose her train of thought or maybe was thinking hard about how to phrase things.
A coachwould tell her to not only make eye contact with the interviewer, but with individual audience members.
Instead, she answered with eyes closed and then looks at the interviewer.
She needs to have some rest built into her schedule, at least.
No one can push and push without consequences to their health.
I have nothing but respect for her!
