Thorough fix Mr Pender. I've both knees replaced so I can't get down on them anymore. I bought a lift and added a wooden deck after seeing yours and acquired a short Harbor Freight rolling stool and it worked out perfectly. Thanks again.

You inspired me. Somebody gave me a nice work bench. I put angle “iron” (old bed frame) on 3 sides. It’s way longer than a mower so I have plenty of work/tool space. Next I’ll figure out a ramp to roll mowers up.

Nice fix Bruce! I really like your videos. Guys like you and Donyboy73, Doublewide6, have taught me so much. I look back to only a few years ago when I wouldn’t have dreamed of working on a small engine . Now I don’t panic when something goes wrong and use the repair techniques you guys pass on to us. I’m appreciative of all your efforts believe me, I always recommend your channel to my friends. It’s nice, like you said, not to have to pay a repair shop $100 an hour to fix something that you can do for yourself for a fraction of the cost....not to mention how good it feels, lol. Thanks again Bruce!

I've been watching you for about 3 months now Bruce. Great videos with an easy teaching style. I've learned quite a bit. My father used to perform the same service you do, but he passed in 1977. You remind me of him ... a lot.
But I don't mind telling you ... when you sped the video up with the motor running and moved the motor towards the camera ... I don't mind telling you I about jumped out of my skin! 😳😳😳 😎👍🏼
Keep the videos coming! You're doing the small engine repair community a great service. Have a good day!

Great job! I am glad it was a fairly simple fix. A lot of the mowers I "rescue" from the curb have fouled spark plugs that do not allow the mowers to run. It's a shame that around here most folks would throw out something because it does not work rather than try a new or different plug first.

Good troubleshooting Inspector Gadget. On the worn wheels, I had a friend who would drill out the wheel bolt holes with a bit to bring the hole back round and he used to sleeve it with a piece of the aluminum gutter nail sleeves. I have made round sleeves out of aluminum flashing and aluminum from pop or beer cans (thinner than the flashing). To get a little more life out of the wheels. And your running aluminum against a steel axle. As the sleeve wears to a loose wheel, just press out the old sleeve and put in a new one.

Hey Bruce, on my mower handles, I put a piece of black pipe insulation and secure it with electrical tape to cut down on vibration to the hands. I use a zip tie loosely looped over the handle and safety bar and when I want to shut the mower down, I simply slide the loose zip tie off to either side enough to allow the safety bar to spring back open. I've done this for years, no problems with broken clips or such. Thanks again Bruce

I've been enjoyed watching this! It's been two days since I cleaned a whole carburetor with a carb cleaner. Replaced air filter gasket with a new one. I also used air compressor to blast those nasty brown dusts away from the carb and two spring links and cleaned an engine cover and an engine metal shroud. I replaced a coil. At first, I thought it was coil that caused engine won't start when it's hot. It can start cold just fine, but in this case, the new coil installed makes no difference so it was the same result. Which is why I decided to clean an entire carburetor and it was very first time doing this. I still haven't tested it due to the raining on this week...

Nice job Bruce. I found on a few mowers that there is a brass screw inside of the spark plug boot that gets lose and can cause partial or no spark . Usually just tighten them up and good to go. Thanks for the video's.

Bruce Pender I use the new wd40 dry lube on the wheels, see what happens to the wheels is when you use oil, I collect dirt and sand and it acts like sand paper and eats away the plastic, but you use dry lube it doesn't collect dust and dirt and the wheels last longer.... Just a tip.

Bruce, thanks for another fantastic video. Just as a side note, as pressure increases (inside of the combustion chamber for example), the amount of voltage required for the spark to jump from the center electrode to the grounding electrode also increases. My point is, if a spark plug works outside of the cylinder, that does not mean that it will work under pressure, and although spark testers are nice, they only indicate that some spark is jumping somewhere (it could be jumping through a crack in the porcelain insulator of the center electrode, to the side of the plug, (not enough to ignite the fuel)). However, I do not know what the relationship is mathematically, but if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

You are right once in a while it would fire on the old plug. It measured open ohms.

ATH3157 for your gout try either eating dark red cherries or getting dark cherry extract either liquid or tablet or capsule. There is something in them that rids the body of the email acid that causes the gout. It is natural so you don't have to take that gout medicine prescribed that his extremely hard on the kidneys. A PLUG. I don't have many plug issues Dave. I have had 2 plugs this week. One was one of those evil RJ19HX Is that the name? They suck. I have about 6 of those laying around here and I am throwing them all away. These are such good mowers ruined by a modern thin wire plug. They are advertised as one pull. I measured the resistance and they are 5 times higher in resistance than a standard RJ19LM. RANT!!!!!!

Do the equipment owners watch your videos; give you feedback?? The carbon buildup on that old plug looks like the combustion chamber could benefit from a water decarbonization. I haven't changed spark plugs on my yard equipment since a new one was defective. Because of that It was time to learn how to determine whether a plug was bad. Subsequent to that, I read that one of the benefits of magneto systems is that spark plugs almost never wear out.

I stay away from WD40 as the WD means Water Displacement (it evaporates). . The white lithium grease is great for plastic.

I've found that they stay spinning freely once lubed up with WD-40 though, I swear by WD-40 for lubing cables and wheels and PB Blaster for the engine to deck bolts.

Ok I am at 3:17 into the vid and I can bet good money the reason why it started... The kill/brake cable wasn't traveling all the way.......
I was gonna make a video on Johnny's mower a couple weeks ago, but I keep forgetting to do it..... The cable wasn't retracting all the way to disconnect the kill wire to the coil.....
Ok let me get back to your video ........ Plus Tard Mon Ami ~!~!

I don't even see HX down here... Must be a hotter plug ??? I buy the RJ19LM in bulk.

Boo LuQuette You said you buy the "R" resistor plugs in bulk? Does it really matter on these small mowers if we use the resistor or non-resistor plugs..I see both kinds at Home Depot, same price......just asking, I want to get a little supply of needed parts on my bench for small engine repair.

Bruce I swear you took way too long to do that repair just to find it would of started If you would of have the primer a chance the first time. If it quit while he was running it was most likely the coil heating up and shutting off or a venting problem in his gas tank. The guy might come back if it shuts off again so have a cool ready.

That was the surprise. I metered the spark plug and it was electrically open. I should have showed that. Thanks. it did enter my mind. You did see it was intermittent too.

John jay drott I read your post and the things that stuck out to me are the words you used. If,If,Most likely,Might..... Think about it. I thought you and Bruce may have been best buddies and you were just giving him a ribbing so I went to your channel. Yeah, not so much..... PS when you shoot your 3rd small engine video, try landscape. Its more appealling to your subs. I'm Zombie Dave and I'm OUT!

Coil, needs a coil, if you didn't do a coil he'll be back next mow.

I measured the plug with an ohmmeter and it was electrically open. But I did consider a coil before I found that. I should have included that. It is hard to show it all.
