  • Today I'm taking a look at a prototype sword by Feather Smallswords of Serbia, a great new smallsword option with great specs and handling. This was paid for with my own money, so everything I say is my own independent opinion.

    Dear Peter, thank you so much for your review. We really didn't expect this. If we only knew that you are going to make a video we would gladly do our best and send you some new model for a review. As a small new company on the market this means a lot to us. Thank you!

    Hey Peter! Thanks for this review. This is exactly what I was looking for. A 2. review after now more than a years time would be highly apreciated.

      Hey there, thanks! Good to know there is some interest around this. I will try to make a long term video review now that I've had it for 2 years. Cheers!

    I have a pre-production model identical to that. It looks and feels beautiful. I agree with everything you said in your review. I intend to buy more

    Does anyone know the name of the book behind the sword at 0:18?

    I've been using the Leon Paul trainer with sports fencing clothing. If you choose the Musketeer blade does it's stiffness mean you need HEMA clothing?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 роки тому +2

      You certainly don't need a bulky longsword jacket.
      I'd say you can do smallsword with similar equipment to sport fencing, just be sure you get something made out of 800N fabric for extra safety.
      A lighter HEMA jacket such as the SPES AP Light or Officer are very good options aswell.
      Cheers!

      @@historyandsabre Thanks - our fencing jackets are 350N, which are obviously OK for the épée blades, but I think I'll have to shelve the idea of the musketeer blades for the moment if they require different jackets.

    • @Mikedartagnan
      @Mikedartagnan 2 роки тому

      It seems the AP light is 350N - so maybe my 350N jacket would be OK with the Musketeer blade?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 роки тому +2

      @@Mikedartagnan My SPES officer is also 350N and I use it for smallsword. I just wanted to recommend 800N as it is rhe safer option for narrower and thrust-centric blades.

      @@historyandsabre Is the Musketeer blade a lot stiffer than the épée blade? I'm just as concerned about bruising etc. - I already wear a plastic chest protector for épée after someone cracked a couple of my ribs!

    Any update on how the sword handles in sparring?

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 роки тому +2

      I like the hilt and the overall feel with the HF Armory musketeer blade a lot. It's really good and not too light. However, that blade itself is very prone to bending on every thrust, which is a bit annoying. Not Feather Smallswords' fault tho!

    The bended blade when you put it on your shoulder makes me crazy..i'am one that constantly needs to have a straight blade...it's some sort of obsessive-compulsive disorder i think. Thanks for the video tho..the Feather SS seems to be the best alternative in price-performance-beauty for weekly training and sparring.

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 роки тому

      Hah, yes haha. The thing with the musketeer blade is that it bends very easily and doesn't return true. I don't know if it's only the batch used for our smallswords or if it's a wider issue.

    • @Blutroth
      @Blutroth 2 роки тому

      @@historyandsabre Oh really? i was writing with feather smallswords, they told me, that the musketeer blade is more sturdy than an olympic sports blade and will most likely not bend so easy in comparison hmm...

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  2 роки тому +1

      @Lamech Interesting. I'm sure that's the idea but those we received didn't live up to that. They have really great feel but we ordered 5 smallswords, 4 of which came with the musketeer blade and none of those was or remained straight.

    how much should a hema smallsword cost on average ???

    • @historyandsabre
      @historyandsabre  Рік тому +2

      This one here is a bit more expensive but if you just wanna get into it quickly, you can go cheaper.
      You can use olympic fencing parts (foil or epee blade and a straight grip), which should be around €100. Cheers.

      @@kostaspivoriunas9140 With thinner blades it really depends on how and how much you use them. It hasn't happened to me yet.
