The YoRHa emblem (closed eye) is designed as metaphor that they have not seen the truth, but the Resistance emblem (opened eye) means "we see the truth". As for taking off the blindfold... you get the idea (they've finally seen the truth). Curiously, Yoko-san said that the black design of YoRHa means to mourn. Bunker's monotone color means death (dying world).

Yes, Yoko Taro confirmed that too in the same interview. [Spoilers] Both 6O (2B's operator) and 21O know 9S was killed by 2B so many times. We can also find the evidence inthe game... When we visited Bunker "for the first time" in the game during mission when we have to kill YoRHa Betrayals - 21O and 2B tried to stop 9S for being so curious.
That makes sense, since while black is still a colour of mourn in japanese culture, it is white that's seen as meaning "death". You could say it works in appealing to different cultural sides. Also, you could sa ythat the color pallete in the bunker and well, for all of yorha, reflects that they don't see in betweens, and think in extremes. Friend or for, good or bad.
I wonder if A2's design was something of a statement of her character having seen the truth and because of that she has cast aside the blindfold of other attack/battle units. In casting aside the regular garb of the other YorHa units it seems like an extra statement supporting her active rebellion.
Yes you could somewhat point that A2 sees the truth thus have no need to be blinded by her organisation. Which then questions by 8B, 22B, and 64B did not discard theirs. Also other than a few pieces of cloth, A2 is mostly naked; she is not wearing a bra but all the black parts are the shell of the android frame after the skin patches have peeled off. Her look is one of wear and tear, lack of maintenance and washing.
But she also doesn't know the *full* truth as she doesn't know that the bunker, along with all YoRHa androids, was intended to destroy itself and repeat the cycle. So even she is covered from the truth
I also thought 2B is meant to resemble a doll, while 9S is meant to recall Pinnochio (notice that he's the only YorHa whose nose is covered and accentuated by his blindfold)

She actually is wearing nothing. The only piece of clothing she has is the remnants of mid drift that is blown off when you use b mode. The black parts of her model isn't underwear, it's where her top level skin has pealed off.
She's wearing nothing because of story and symbolism reasons. She's a really old model and has been on the battlefield since years, so ofc it's peeled off by now. Her being nude also means she's free of YorHa (she's a deserter) and it reflects her "seeing the truth": being disposable. Notice how both 2B and A2 look alike? There's a lore reason for this too- but basically, A2 is 2B but free.
A2 isn’t entirely nude apart from the remnants of a shirt. From looking at the game models plus concept art and official figurines the black parts are remnants of clothing.

I'm a girl and i honestly don't mind playing a sexy character as long as they wear _something_. A2 barely wears anything but she looks good as she hasn't got HUGE bewbs (a nice ass though uwu) that almost flops out of her shirt lol. Sexy dudes are always welcome but cute boys are even more welcome and appreciated.
Combat unit has Blindfolds -> they just follow the command. They don't see the truth. Operator with mount mask -> they don't tell the truth. I remember Yoko Taro said something along those line in the fan meeting dinner live stream.
I admire Yoko Taro’s dedication to his characters. He takes no notice to petty backlash and controversy and even when he does he answers it in the complete opposite way they asked, absolute lad.
I also thought the blind fold was a bit of a nod to Emil in the original Neir and the fact he couldn’t look at anyone without turning them to stone and he wore a blindfold from the moment Nier meets him. I was surprised you didn’t mention it. It makes me wonder if Emil had some part in the creation of yorha.
As girl I actually really like 2bs design cause it's not like it's completely unlogival for her dress to be that way for 1, shes an android so it's not like she would give af. for 2 since she's made for combat it makes sense that her dress would be built to be flexible. It might help that I'm pan tho and also like girls lol
Does it matters that much to have a logic reason to wear a dress in a game? if the appearance of your character doesn't affect the gameplay why try to wear something confortable or suited for the situation, what I know for real life is that confortable clothes is usually not the best looking one, in game it doesnt matter if clothes are confortable or not for the character to move if I was a character from the game of course I'd choose the good looking dress, I don't even have to care about it getting dirty or something!!!!!
I don't believe it's ever stated that the YoRHa soldiers can't see into the other's eyes. If they are able to see out of them, I would assume they can also see through the others as well, although it's an interesting idea. It would also be an added measure that separates each of them... like in the case of 2B & 9S, they have such a disconnect between them, each one not really seeing what the other thinks of them. It would be interesting if the visors actually add in this obstruction, like the window into their souls are hidden.
Yeah you're correct in that it isn't stated (as far as I know) officially. I assumed since we weren't give any implication that they could see through each others blindfolds (like how we're told/shown they can see through their own through 1st person pov) and that it fit thematically with the whole "being blind to the truth" thing I would include it. I really like your idea of the visors representing a disconnect between 2B & 9S though, it works well with the other related themes of the game. Also I really enjoy your blog! The goggle is just like sunglasses, you can see someone else is wearing sunglasses though your own sunglasses, but it will be hard to see their eyes... I guess the goggle in the future is made out of cloth instead of glass... Maybe it's much lighter i don't know, it's unique to the NieR world and I really like the design.

I think you missed the 2 major points: 1- They're supossed to resemble dolls, just as the machines resemble tin toys, because (SPOILERS) the main villain is a god-like child that's metaphorically playing with her toys. 2- The reason why 2B is oversexualized could have something to do with the fact that 9S is cannonically attracted to 2B, at least in a sexual way. If they love eachother or not is ambiguous, but in order to have a sexual tension between them is logical to have a sexualized body (or maybe everyone is sexualized in this game except for 9S and the machines. Have you seen Adam and Eve? my god! And even you could argue that 9S appeals to the shotacon community, it would not be a surprise)

Your second statement is not supported by anything in the game. There has never been anything implying 9s is attracted to 2b. One, it would not even make any sense since 2b is not a human being that got lucky to be born with certain desirable characteristics and theres nobody like her - EVERY Yorha girl looks like that. Hell, 2b is just a line of androids. And A2 is literally naked all the time. What, he wants to have sex with all of them? And the framing NEVER implies he looks at her in a certain way. The camera position is very neutral in every scene with them. Second, androids simply dont work like that. They dont even have genitals. They have no way to reproduce and no sexual urges. Like I said, A2 is naked, the black parts of her body is where her skin was peeled off. There are no genitals and her boobs are just hard metallic lumps. 2b is thee same way.

personally, I feel like the reason why the characters were designed like the dolls they are we're also to literally be objectified. think about it in the context of the commercials and trailers that basically spoil the WHOLE GAME... the dolls that get crushed on a conveyor belt speak WAAAAY too much to how, when playing through the game, about what, in the end, these characters are... merely objects that are replaceable.
I think it's good that 2B doesn't have gigantic breasts. I HATE when an otherwise good and attractive character has such big knockers she very likely can't even see her feet. I'm a big fan of 2B's design, and it isn't just because the near constant upskirt shots. It's really a great design, it has a lot of impact, and it's ...well, stylish.
I found it weird to think Yoshida was worried about his designs in the eyes of women when Kaine is hands down my favorite character design ever. Though part of that love is the juxtaposition of the delicate, lacy nature of her outfit along with her albino features (skin tone, eyes, hair color) against her raging, vulgar and violent personality. You see Kaine and think she's supposed to be the "damsel in distress" of the game but quickly realize she's a foul mouthed badass. Yoshida shouldn't have been worried as at least anecdotally most of my girlfriends love 2B's design and want to cosplay as her because she has a elegance to her without being trashy.
Yoshida+Taro are masters of designing female characters. I don’t think they work in D3 was quite as strong but I would put that down to Zero having a very strange default outfit which not only of obscured much of her body by having gigantic sleeve flaps, but also was very close in color to hair naturally pale skin and hair. This was especially baffling as a Sister One had an absolutely perfect design, just the right amount of girly, symbolic, attractive, and practical. Kaine is great, given how many games in the genre featuring very skimpily dressed highly attractive female character as either some kind of weak love interest or a total tease. And then there is Kaine, looks like an early 2000s box art waifu, and the mannerisms of an oil rig roughneck crew chief. And the best part is the outfit actually has meaning to both the story and the character beyond just an excuse to have some flesh showing. What’s interesting is surprising amount of flesh actually is covered; about 55% of her body. You take her out of the lingerie into something more modest and you actually ruin the character. You put her in even less and you ruin the design. As a man it is actually very hard to design good female characters, especially when you get to their outfits. Being like most guys, I like girls a lot, especially pretty girls. I could stare at pretty girls in revealing outfits all day long and never get bored. That’s not necessarily good game character design. Your design has to convey setting, personality, and theme. If there are physics and animations, the design has to allow them. The design has to instantly and recognizably say who you are looking at, stand out from the environment, especially in competitive multiplayer games. The hardest obstacle is balancing making a character design appealing to look at without making it crude. It’s easy to design a sexy character; give her nice proportions, ample hips, a big bossom, and very little covering them. But that’s easy and crass; there is no end to designs like that of hypersexualized sexy female characters wearing basically nothing. Ape brain sex appeal is easy, making a charming character is hard. It’s surprisingly holistic, it takes dozens of details from the contours of their arms to the shape of their lips. There is an easy way to cheat and that’s to put everyone in a frumpy costume such as military fatigues all worn the same way. That creates a good aesthetic it’s thematic, and it creates a tone, but it’s not very appealing. I would say the art of good female character designer is to initially just draw what you want a certain figure to look like and then make it less so. Cut the hair a little shorter, take off a cup size from the bust, flatten in hips, and shrink the eyes. Most initial drawings are more exaggerated in nature; doing this you will be smoothing those out to create a less exaggerated and more naturalistic but still quite distinct and attractive looking character. Another Yoshida truck I love is to do the writing and drawing independent of each other so personalities and other characteristics don’t bleed over. This also makes it more exciting as it stops your intentions for the character from impacting across the two. I noticed that if you set out to create a certain kind of character the result is usually worse than if you create a character who is a certain thing. Example if you set out to create a character who is the designated sexy one, you’re going to end up with a character who is more hyper sexualized and less interesting and appealing than a character who was written competently enough and designed attractively enough who just got handed the role of sex queen. Writing and design actually impact each other quite closely so it’s up to you how much you want them to interact; I like them interacting as little as possible until it’s necessary but that’s just me. I find it makes more interesting and rounded combinations when they’re allowed to develop separately and freely. Taro and Yoshida really do the designs amazingly well. I look over my own sketches and some of my models and compared to what they come up with for characters such as 2B it puts me in despair. And yeah 2B is gorgeous, she is definitely the hottest one of the cast; she even looks distinctly sexy while in the concealing and lumpy military outfit. Now that is design!
So apparently large breasts = gaudiness and tastelessness and small breasts = elegance & power... nice. Makes me feel good about myself for sure lol. :/ idk why ppl seem to be so anti boob these days. Having big boobs isn’t gross. Neither is having small boobs.
As a male fan I can say that if they gave 2B big bouncy boobs then I'd be way too distracted to pay attention to how awesome of a character she is. Whether you like it or not, the bigger the boobs, the less personality that is required. Also the bigger the boobs, the less people even pay attention to your personality. Big boobs are awesome. But they're also distracting and can detract from a characters design. I think 2B would be less sexy/attractive/cool/badass with big breasts. And I'm a guy who prefers huge boobs. Boobs are a double edged sword if character design. Easy way to get people to like your character. But it's a shortcut so it lacks actual substance.
spoilers btw: i know this comment is really late, but i think 2b was purposefully sexualized so much so that the relationship of 2b and 9s ends has more emotional impact, because we understand that despite being a machine, 9s has become attracted to 2b (and the player also probably is) Also, while 9s is chained up by adam, the infamous line "you're probably thinking about how much you want to **** 2b arent you?" Since 9s had the ability to eventually learn about the extinction of mankind, he also probably had learned about 2b being 2e, and he understands the pain that she has to go through everytime she has to kill 9s. This is why 2b occasionally lashes out very emotionally when something happens to 9s. She cares about him but knows she has to kill him. The line is probably "thinking about how much you want to kill 2b" (a more dark approach because he knows she wont love him, and that shes going to kill him) or "thinking about how much you want to free 2b" (this is because 9s might think that 2b wants to love 9s, and he wants to take her out of this cycle of having to kill 9s over and over again. or yoko taro just likes girls

I didn't know if they could actually see through them and thought they were simply getting visual information directly from their PODS and thus covered their eyes so that they'd only have the one source of visual information coming in.
Well, 2B is the first character you play as, and she's not around for main endings C, and D due to being dead . However 9S is around for all endings. He dies in A and B, dies in C and D and is "alive" in E. He changes the most over all characters and has the most playing time out of all playable characters. It can be argued that 9S is the main character focus of the game, even if he's not being played. His actions bring about all of the main endings. In my informed opinion, 9S is the Protagonist, however 2B, 9S, and A2 are 'main' characters.
I think 2B serves as the protagonist, while 9S serves as the self insert. All events in the story surrounding 9S and A2 are caused by 2B directly or indirectly. The game is mostly about their relationship anyways. We play as 2B first for multiple reasons. But one of them is to fall in love with her like 9S has and be able to feel what he feels. A protagonist can die before a large amount of the cast dies, and still be the protagonist. Akame ga kill is a great example of this. 2b may have less play time than 9S, but thats so we can feel what he feels. Can't have a tragedy in a relationship without 1 of the 2 dying. Only makes sense for 2B to die between the 2 of them and have 9S carry on afterwards.

Well androids have very little knowledge of what humans were actually like. They have a few videos saved here and there. Some images too. But they don't even know what valentines day is. They're very limited in their knowledge of humanity because so little information has survived, and trying to claim you understand some human thing, either having evidence is viewed very very poorly by android kind. As for the outfits, they have in-lore explanations. Pretty much everything except the heels are explained I believe. Androids wouldn't really suffer from heels since they can just adjust themselves to be able to proficiently move in them without hindrance.
My question is. Why does 2b, 9s, and a2 have white hairs? The others dont really have white hairs. Mostly they are black and blonde. Oh wait i forgot about the commander...but still. They are the only ones who has white hairs.

I never played nier Automata and just by seeing 2B's Blindfolded automatically is telling me: "prepare to embrace the truth if you play this game". Meaning 2B is already playing the game without accepting the Truth cuz she is blind folded.

I feel this is all a bit backward, Yorha was first created as a stage play/idol, dance show, this is where the design originated You can clearly see how this is made for dancing and it also really fit with how 2B looks like she is dancing when fighting Some part of the outfit are directly taken from dance stage, for example there cannot be any "panty shot" in the first place because you can never see it, what you see is actually a justeaucorp/leotard used by dancer and the overall outfit is very reminiscent of the kind of liberal approach of a traditional black "tutu" you could find in a modern interpretation of the black swan for example
Iirc read somewhere that the entirety pf yorha was designed around 2b. As in, the designer made her first, then came with how yorhas will look. For all we know she might have been created long before the stage play and decied to just keep her hidden to use her as the mc of the game.
*What always stroke me as odd while playing the game:* If the blindfold is supposed to be a visor... why do they need it? They are Androids. They can simply do the processing of the visor information inside their own Head. Why use a middleman? Unless the blindfold adds a 360° field of Vision since it goes around the entire head.
I never thought that 2B was _that_ sexualized honestly. Perhaps partially it's because i've seen more sexualized characters. Sure she is sexually appealing, but sexualization is not my only thought about her character. And while she looks really pretty she also looks elegant, powerful, and mysterious too. And honestly, i think that appeal is also quite important, an android like her supposed to resemble a perfect human being.

Sigh…for those who don’t get it. It’s because of the context. I’m a bisexual woman and I hate being stared by strangers at for my chest. The game doesn’t really let you avoid seeing her ass and underwear while standing, running and climbing. As the player it makes me feel so gross and creepy that I can’t avoid it.The camera angles were purposefully designed in to allow voyeurism of her body and it feels disrespectful to a character, who I identify with as a woman. As for 9S’s attraction, you can be sexually attracted to someone who isn’t in revealing clothing. It took me out the game so many times that I can’t play her character unless she is wearing a different outfit. It frustrates me because her design is SO ICONIC, powerful and downright gorgeous. It might be one of my favorite design in all gaming. I’m ok with the slit but why is she basically wearing a white thong. I don’t see thematic justification for that design choice. I do appreciate that they showed some concern, enough to reel in the design….It could’ve been more sexualized but I’m tired of feeling creepy while playing as my own gender. In the end it just comes down to the creators liking sexy girls but to me it’s just dehumanizing, and distracting because people will label them as the character who be THICC, even when a character is so well written and deep as 2B.
In reality nobody ever mentioned yoko taro got inspired but that specific outfit one day when he was spectating to a sort of japanese idols dance show where the girls were wearing exactly that outfit. The blindfold tho was absent or semi transparent don't really remember since i watched it long ago but i bet someone know what video im talking about.
I understand that Androids are supposed to be emotionless machines but having them all blindfolded seems like it would just hinder there combat skills unless they were programmed with some other way to compensate for their blindness like superior hearing or modified echolocation
Someone else beat me to it, but I'll elaborate further. Their blindfolds are actually goggles/visors that portray the games UI. So the UI you see like health bar, money, map, health boosts/other buffs, and also your pause menu and settings. They are all things that your characters actually see too. Their blindfolds are see through on their end. Like tinted windows.
The blindfold is also a metaphor for her not understanding her own mission. On a more practical level, she doesn't need eyes to see, because she uses a floating camera drone (the same one that provides the game's camera).
That's actually not true. She fully understands her mission. Kill 9S whenever he learns the truth about YoRHa, humanity, or 2Bs reason for teaming up with him despite him being a scanner model. Also the Pods aren't used to see. Their blindfolds are see through from their side. It's like tinted windows or shades. Can't see the person behind them but the person behind them can see outside clearly.
I feel like everyone forgets that androids were only made by humans so they can watch over and fight if any thing went wrong with the gestalt project. Any androids that were created when project gestalt failed, were just something that the androids created to look and be more like humans

She actually is wearing nothing. The only piece of clothing she has is the remnants of mid drift that is blown off when you use b mode. The black parts of her model isn't underwear, it's where her top level skin has pealed off.
She's wearing nothing because of story and symbolism reasons. She's a really old model and has been on the battlefield since years, so ofc it's peeled off by now. Her being nude also means she's free of YorHa (she's a deserter) and it reflects her "seeing the truth": being disposable.
Notice how both 2B and A2 look alike? There's a lore reason for this too- but basically, A2 is 2B but free.
A2 isn’t entirely nude apart from the remnants of a shirt. From looking at the game models plus concept art and official figurines the black parts are remnants of clothing.

Does it matters that much to have a logic reason to wear a dress in a game? if the appearance of your character doesn't affect the gameplay why try to wear something confortable or suited for the situation, what I know for real life is that confortable clothes is usually not the best looking one, in game it doesnt matter if clothes are confortable or not for the character to move if I was a character from the game of course I'd choose the good looking dress, I don't even have to care about it getting dirty or something!!!!!

I don't believe it's ever stated that the YoRHa soldiers can't see into the other's eyes. If they are able to see out of them, I would assume they can also see through the others as well, although it's an interesting idea. It would also be an added measure that separates each of them... like in the case of 2B & 9S, they have such a disconnect between them, each one not really seeing what the other thinks of them. It would be interesting if the visors actually add in this obstruction, like the window into their souls are hidden.
Yeah you're correct in that it isn't stated (as far as I know) officially. I assumed since we weren't give any implication that they could see through each others blindfolds (like how we're told/shown they can see through their own through 1st person pov) and that it fit thematically with the whole "being blind to the truth" thing I would include it. I really like your idea of the visors representing a disconnect between 2B & 9S though, it works well with the other related themes of the game. Also I really enjoy your blog! The goggle is just like sunglasses, you can see someone else is wearing sunglasses though your own sunglasses, but it will be hard to see their eyes... I guess the goggle in the future is made out of cloth instead of glass... Maybe it's much lighter i don't know, it's unique to the NieR world and I really like the design.

I think you missed the 2 major points:
1- They're supossed to resemble dolls, just as the machines resemble tin toys, because (SPOILERS) the main villain is a god-like child that's metaphorically playing with her toys.
2- The reason why 2B is oversexualized could have something to do with the fact that 9S is cannonically attracted to 2B, at least in a sexual way. If they love eachother or not is ambiguous, but in order to have a sexual tension between them is logical to have a sexualized body (or maybe everyone is sexualized in this game except for 9S and the machines. Have you seen Adam and Eve? my god! And even you could argue that 9S appeals to the shotacon community, it would not be a surprise)

Your second statement is not supported by anything in the game. There has never been anything implying 9s is attracted to 2b.
One, it would not even make any sense since 2b is not a human being that got lucky to be born with certain desirable characteristics and theres nobody like her - EVERY Yorha girl looks like that. Hell, 2b is just a line of androids. And A2 is literally naked all the time. What, he wants to have sex with all of them? And the framing NEVER implies he looks at her in a certain way. The camera position is very neutral in every scene with them.
Second, androids simply dont work like that. They dont even have genitals. They have no way to reproduce and no sexual urges. Like I said, A2 is naked, the black parts of her body is where her skin was peeled off. There are no genitals and her boobs are just hard metallic lumps. 2b is thee same way.

I found it weird to think Yoshida was worried about his designs in the eyes of women when Kaine is hands down my favorite character design ever. Though part of that love is the juxtaposition of the delicate, lacy nature of her outfit along with her albino features (skin tone, eyes, hair color) against her raging, vulgar and violent personality. You see Kaine and think she's supposed to be the "damsel in distress" of the game but quickly realize she's a foul mouthed badass. Yoshida shouldn't have been worried as at least anecdotally most of my girlfriends love 2B's design and want to cosplay as her because she has a elegance to her without being trashy.
So what counts as trashy for you?
Yoshida+Taro are masters of designing female characters. I don’t think they work in D3 was quite as strong but I would put that down to Zero having a very strange default outfit which not only of obscured much of her body by having gigantic sleeve flaps, but also was very close in color to hair naturally pale skin and hair. This was especially baffling as a Sister One had an absolutely perfect design, just the right amount of girly, symbolic, attractive, and practical.
Kaine is great, given how many games in the genre featuring very skimpily dressed highly attractive female character as either some kind of weak love interest or a total tease. And then there is Kaine, looks like an early 2000s box art waifu, and the mannerisms of an oil rig roughneck crew chief. And the best part is the outfit actually has meaning to both the story and the character beyond just an excuse to have some flesh showing. What’s interesting is surprising amount of flesh actually is covered; about 55% of her body. You take her out of the lingerie into something more modest and you actually ruin the character. You put her in even less and you ruin the design.
As a man it is actually very hard to design good female characters, especially when you get to their outfits. Being like most guys, I like girls a lot, especially pretty girls. I could stare at pretty girls in revealing outfits all day long and never get bored. That’s not necessarily good game character design. Your design has to convey setting, personality, and theme. If there are physics and animations, the design has to allow them. The design has to instantly and recognizably say who you are looking at, stand out from the environment, especially in competitive multiplayer games.
The hardest obstacle is balancing making a character design appealing to look at without making it crude. It’s easy to design a sexy character; give her nice proportions, ample hips, a big bossom, and very little covering them. But that’s easy and crass; there is no end to designs like that of hypersexualized sexy female characters wearing basically nothing.
Ape brain sex appeal is easy, making a charming character is hard. It’s surprisingly holistic, it takes dozens of details from the contours of their arms to the shape of their lips. There is an easy way to cheat and that’s to put everyone in a frumpy costume such as military fatigues all worn the same way. That creates a good aesthetic it’s thematic, and it creates a tone, but it’s not very appealing. I would say the art of good female character designer is to initially just draw what you want a certain figure to look like and then make it less so. Cut the hair a little shorter, take off a cup size from the bust, flatten in hips, and shrink the eyes. Most initial drawings are more exaggerated in nature; doing this you will be smoothing those out to create a less exaggerated and more naturalistic but still quite distinct and attractive looking character.
Another Yoshida truck I love is to do the writing and drawing independent of each other so personalities and other characteristics don’t bleed over. This also makes it more exciting as it stops your intentions for the character from impacting across the two. I noticed that if you set out to create a certain kind of character the result is usually worse than if you create a character who is a certain thing. Example if you set out to create a character who is the designated sexy one, you’re going to end up with a character who is more hyper sexualized and less interesting and appealing than a character who was written competently enough and designed attractively enough who just got handed the role of sex queen. Writing and design actually impact each other quite closely so it’s up to you how much you want them to interact; I like them interacting as little as possible until it’s necessary but that’s just me. I find it makes more interesting and rounded combinations when they’re allowed to develop separately and freely.
Taro and Yoshida really do the designs amazingly well. I look over my own sketches and some of my models and compared to what they come up with for characters such as 2B it puts me in despair.
And yeah 2B is gorgeous, she is definitely the hottest one of the cast; she even looks distinctly sexy while in the concealing and lumpy military outfit. Now that is design!

Whether you like it or not, the bigger the boobs, the less personality that is required. Also the bigger the boobs, the less people even pay attention to your personality.
Big boobs are awesome. But they're also distracting and can detract from a characters design. I think 2B would be less sexy/attractive/cool/badass with big breasts. And I'm a guy who prefers huge boobs.
Boobs are a double edged sword if character design. Easy way to get people to like your character. But it's a shortcut so it lacks actual substance.

i know this comment is really late, but i think 2b was purposefully sexualized so much so that the relationship of 2b and 9s ends has more emotional impact, because we understand that despite being a machine, 9s has become attracted to 2b (and the player also probably is)
Also, while 9s is chained up by adam, the infamous line "you're probably thinking about how much you want to **** 2b arent you?" Since 9s had the ability to eventually learn about the extinction of mankind, he also probably had learned about 2b being 2e, and he understands the pain that she has to go through everytime she has to kill 9s. This is why 2b occasionally lashes out very emotionally when something happens to 9s. She cares about him but knows she has to kill him. The line is probably "thinking about how much you want to kill 2b" (a more dark approach because he knows she wont love him, and that shes going to kill him) or "thinking about how much you want to free 2b" (this is because 9s might think that 2b wants to love 9s, and he wants to take her out of this cycle of having to kill 9s over and over again.

Well, 2B is the first character you play as, and she's not around for main endings C, and D due to being dead . However 9S is around for all endings. He dies in A and B, dies in C and D and is "alive" in E. He changes the most over all characters and has the most playing time out of all playable characters. It can be argued that 9S is the main character focus of the game, even if he's not being played. His actions bring about all of the main endings. In my informed opinion, 9S is the Protagonist, however 2B, 9S, and A2 are 'main' characters.
I think 2B serves as the protagonist, while 9S serves as the self insert. All events in the story surrounding 9S and A2 are caused by 2B directly or indirectly. The game is mostly about their relationship anyways. We play as 2B first for multiple reasons. But one of them is to fall in love with her like 9S has and be able to feel what he feels.
A protagonist can die before a large amount of the cast dies, and still be the protagonist. Akame ga kill is a great example of this.
2b may have less play time than 9S, but thats so we can feel what he feels. Can't have a tragedy in a relationship without 1 of the 2 dying. Only makes sense for 2B to die between the 2 of them and have 9S carry on afterwards.

Well androids have very little knowledge of what humans were actually like. They have a few videos saved here and there. Some images too. But they don't even know what valentines day is. They're very limited in their knowledge of humanity because so little information has survived, and trying to claim you understand some human thing, either having evidence is viewed very very poorly by android kind.
As for the outfits, they have in-lore explanations. Pretty much everything except the heels are explained I believe. Androids wouldn't really suffer from heels since they can just adjust themselves to be able to proficiently move in them without hindrance.

You can clearly see how this is made for dancing and it also really fit with how 2B looks like she is dancing when fighting
Some part of the outfit are directly taken from dance stage, for example there cannot be any "panty shot" in the first place because you can never see it, what you see is actually a justeaucorp/leotard used by dancer and the overall outfit is very reminiscent of the kind of liberal approach of a traditional black "tutu" you could find in a modern interpretation of the black swan for example

I never thought that 2B was _that_ sexualized honestly. Perhaps partially it's because i've seen more sexualized characters. Sure she is sexually appealing, but sexualization is not my only thought about her character. And while she looks really pretty she also looks elegant, powerful, and mysterious too. And honestly, i think that appeal is also quite important, an android like her supposed to resemble a perfect human being.

Sigh…for those who don’t get it. It’s because of the context. I’m a bisexual woman and I hate being stared by strangers at for my chest. The game doesn’t really let you avoid seeing her ass and underwear while standing, running and climbing. As the player it makes me feel so gross and creepy that I can’t avoid it.The camera angles were purposefully designed in to allow voyeurism of her body and it feels disrespectful to a character, who I identify with as a woman. As for 9S’s attraction, you can be sexually attracted to someone who isn’t in revealing clothing. It took me out the game so many times that I can’t play her character unless she is wearing a different outfit. It frustrates me because her design is SO ICONIC, powerful and downright gorgeous. It might be one of my favorite design in all gaming. I’m ok with the slit but why is she basically wearing a white thong. I don’t see thematic justification for that design choice. I do appreciate that they showed some concern, enough to reel in the design….It could’ve been more sexualized but I’m tired of feeling creepy while playing as my own gender. In the end it just comes down to the creators liking sexy girls but to me it’s just dehumanizing, and distracting because people will label them as the character who be THICC, even when a character is so well written and deep as 2B.

I understand that Androids are supposed to be emotionless machines but having them all blindfolded seems like it would just hinder there combat skills unless they were programmed with some other way to compensate for their blindness like superior hearing or modified echolocation

Their blindfolds are actually goggles/visors that portray the games UI. So the UI you see like health bar, money, map, health boosts/other buffs, and also your pause menu and settings. They are all things that your characters actually see too.
Their blindfolds are see through on their end. Like tinted windows.

That's actually not true. She fully understands her mission. Kill 9S whenever he learns the truth about YoRHa, humanity, or 2Bs reason for teaming up with him despite him being a scanner model.
Also the Pods aren't used to see. Their blindfolds are see through from their side. It's like tinted windows or shades. Can't see the person behind them but the person behind them can see outside clearly.
I feel like everyone forgets that androids were only made by humans so they can watch over and fight if any thing went wrong with the gestalt project.
Any androids that were created when project gestalt failed, were just something that the androids created to look and be more like humans
