Great video buddy! I used this to reset the oil degradation gauge perfectly within a minute! My mechanic doesn't even know how to do it. Thank you so much so taking the time to create this video.
Notice how the break fluid light says on. Probably it's like on my older 528 that the time you are holding down the button is depending on if you are resetting for a "small" or "big" service. In the older cars with the big round plug in the engine bay you simply short circuit pin 7 and 19 whilst turning the ignition (2nd step) on. Again the time you keep the short circuit will tell the car if it's a small or big service. Hope this helps!
The only way I know of to reset the earlier E39s is with the Peake scanner tool, or an OBDII-USB and then PC software... or of course a dealer or BMW shop.

My actuator was out and the engine oil light came on I meant to check but being hurried in mornings forgot ran it for a week just checked it and it’s bone dry. Threw in a quart Bc that’s all I have on hand, getting oil in the morning. Did I fuck up? New actuator should be here this week!
@@E39Source intake. Yeah I’m adding oil now until my fcp euro order comes in. I’ve only used liquid Molly but it’s never burned oil idk why it is now. The actuator went out and I plugged it with silicone until my part came in Bc it was sucking air. If you put your finger on it, it sucked it right to it.
@@E39Source just filled 7 quarts it was low low not sure why ?! 🤔 she’s never burned oil. She’s hit 20 years old this month. Two coolant systems, shocks struts m sport package, plugs wires ngk iridium. She is starting to nickel and dime but at least with your channels help and a few others, you can work on these still yourself.
Are those light only for telling you when to change your oil? I just got my oil changed about 2 weeks ago but the last yellow and red lights are still coming on for me. Does this mean the dealer simply did not reset them?

2001 e39...I have Inspection light showing at startup. I tried to reset it by pushing tab and turning key to first position but could not get into to the sia to reset it. Any ideas.
Depends if you have high OBC or not, but if you hold the left button down on the cluster, insert the key turning it to position 1, turn the key back to the off position, and then release the button, that should do it.
This method works on 9/00 production and later E39s. For the earlier ones, you need to connect pins 7 and 19 under the hood in the big black round diagnostics port. Use a piece of wire to connect those pins with power on (probably key position in 1 or 2).
Hey Zakon, it was me that shared this video with E39Source. My car is a 2000 BMW 525i (i.e. an E39). Since I did that video I have done well over 200 miles and it is still running perfectly so I would be surprised to find it isn't safe.
Low OBC is shown in the video above. It has a small line of text at the bottom. High OBC has a wider line at the bottom and can display much more text.

Man this video is awesome, much better/less risk than using a wire to short-out pins in engine bay.

Is there a procedure for doing this on earlier E39s? Just tried this on my '98 model and it didn't work...went straight to the test menu :-/

What actuator? Running the engine ~1 liter low or more can cause serious damage.

You're correct, these lights are just for telling you when an oil change or inspection is due.

That light is indicating that there is a tail light or reverse light out on that corner of the car.
Is there a way to do this on the E34 5 series?
By the way...it works on models from 2001 and up only... SIA is the first inspection . This is according to the Bent.Serv. Manual...

Im not for sure but it sounds like you need new Camshaft Position Sensors. Theyre pretty cheap.

No, but make sure that your oil changes are completed on time.
