And part of that was that they just didn't really have anyone else. Arizin was a good shooter but at the end of his career, Rodgers could pass pretty well but couldn't throw it in the ocean shooting wise. Gola was one of those jack of all trades master of none types. Bro get real, if you really think Wilt who shot the ball far better than Russell ever did while still getting the same number of rebounds and playing just as good as defense, you're just letting your anti-Wilt bias show through. And s/o to Sonny Hill Wilt’s friend he said the Boston Celtics never had a sold out arena even with all of the winning that they was doing. Wilt was the one who was putting @$$es in the seats. And if he was “selfish” then how is it that Wilt is the only center to lead the league in assist? Wilt will never get the benefit of the doubt cause if he was not as gifted as he was they would “How could you be that big and not dominate?” So he used he height and physical/athletic gifts the best way he could and here comes the bull💩 talk. Red set in motion when he was in charge physical attacks on Wilt, he hired enforcers to elbow wilt in the face and body? "he [Chamberlain] took the most brutal pounding of any player ever."
Wilts early death could be attributed to an elbow to the face so hard that his teeth went straight into and through his gums, he also got an infection that infected his heart muscle?
When this same enforcement arm in the Boston Celtics decided to do this again wilt had, had enough and knocked him cold and the referees on this occasion backed Wilt, they observed these attacks and understood that no player could carry on facing this abuse?
Red got involved and even Bill Russell stayed out of it when wilt told Red "to shut up or he might end up the same way!"
Amazingly a second referees said to Red and all on the bench, "if the team had any other 7 footer who wanted to argue with an enraged Wilt" and none came forward?
Finally from a man he was their:-
"Boston Celtics forward Tom Heinsohn said his team ruthlessly exploited his only weakness, free throw shooting, with an early version of the "Hack-a-Shaq" (a tactic in which a poor free throw shooter is intentionally fouled, in the hope that he misses free throws and the team gets an easy ball possession without giving up many points). "Half the fouls against him were hard fouls," Heinsohn continued, "he [Chamberlain] took the most brutal pounding of any player ever." Chamberlain refrained from retaliating, and preferred to play through the many fouls."

Mel Counts shot 4/13 from the field and Elgin 8/22. Russell with 6 points on 2/7 from field plus 21 rebounds. Wilt outplayed Russell and yet he gets tagged the loser because his coach sat him the last 6 minutes of the game. A game he played in 43 minutes. One of the problems with all these comments is that Bill Russell was never double teamed as far as I know. He had too many talented teammates around him. So he played his role and played it well. And he relied on his teammates to score. I can't say about what happened after 67 for Wilt. But in 1970, Wilt was severely injured and came back too early from the injury. And that has to be taken into account when looking at that Championship series in 1970. So really to me all you have is 68, 69, 71 and 73 to look at. And I'll eliminate 73 because it's his last season and the team was old. In 71 you had the rise of that great Bucks team and their young superstar. So that leaves 68 and 69 only to look at. 69 being the real headscratcher because his PPG dropped by 10.

That championship game is on here. That is pure BS. Anything to try to cut Wilt Down. All of the old Celtics have selective memories, when it comes to Wilt. Mel Counts didn't score a point, period. West brought them back and he was defended strongly and couldn't keep scoring. Counts had one shot go in, but he traveled before it and it wasn't counted. Red was big time salty that Wilt wouldn't make an effort to play for him. When Wilt was a teenager, Red's mouth was watering to get him to play for him. He would have put Russell in a forward position so fast it would make a head spin.

If you go by the whole picture there are more questionable things about Republicans than Democrats. Now I know you will disagree because you have been brainwashed by the conservative media so if you like you can go on my program and show me your facts on what ever you disagree on .

    Here's what's worst.
Modern day people look at Wilt's Career and ASSUME THE PHIL. WARRIORS WERE TRYING TO WIN TITLES.
THE WARRIORS... WERE NOT TRYING TO WIN TITLES.
    Wilt Chamberlain was a PLAYER!
    NOT THE OWNER!!
ED GOTTLIEB, the OWNER of the Warriors ...
    WAS NOT TRYING TO WIN!!
The Philadelphia Warriors PLAYERS JOB was not to WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS; IT WAS TO SELL TICKETS.
ED GOTTLIEB WAS PAYING WILT TO LEAD THE LEAGUE IN SCORING.
    NOT WIN TITLES.
THE PHILADELPHIA WARRIORS SOLD OUT THEIR GAMES!!
Boston Fans: SYRACUSE!! PFFFFT!! (Half full stadium because everybody knows the Celtics gonna win ugly).

I'm not sure Id say overrated. I think complacent might be a better term as both were superior athletically and didn't have the same work ethic and drive as other lesser athletes had. Red always loved those overachievers who did it with work, intelligence and dedication.

Wilt’s ego made him a worse player than Russell despite his superior ability. We’ve seen it a million times. Any great player that sacrifices stats for team success wins. Any great player that maximizes stats loses. We should be bored by it by now we’ve seen it so much.
