I was the first A-10 pilot that bombed the town, JTAC radioed for both of us to drop literally everything we had on the town despite neither of us seeing anything in it. Good times.
Like there was an entire hour long stretch with NO MEDICAL for ANYONE and in the second town with the CP we finally located one single enemy medical tent. Just one.

Sorry for necroing but that was basically me in a unit I was in forever ago. I was one of the older members of a Vietnam unit and up until that point we had just walked everywhere but we suddenly had more people and we couldn't walk through the jungle in 30 person columns. So since I was the only one who could fly a helicopter half decent I volunteered to be the new air wing. Basically just sat at base the whole OP reading and listening to music while waiting for the call for support or medevac or whatever was going on at the time. Did this for like ten OPs (one OP a week not counting trainings and stuff) and even got me a buddy to sit around and talk with, when all of a sudden another unit that only did air stuff was merged with our unit. Like any unit that *just* does air stuff, these guys were insufferable pricks and every single one of them was suddenly a higher rank over me. I ended up sitting at base the entire OP doing literally nothing and the one time I tried to do something they screamed at me over the radio calling me a faggot and telling me to kill myself. I left the unit after that.
