  • Presenting a 73-minute reel of vintage UK cinema advertising from Pearl & Dean during the 60's and beyond, transferred from 35mm to VHS to DVD to UA-cam! This comes courtesy of a DVD I bought four London Comic Cons ago, where I also discovered the DVD featuring 99 minutes of cinema ads shared by PIFMan092 back in 2012. Unfortunately, the 72-minute DVD was not on sale, and I'll only reupload the aforementioned DVD in higher quality if someone could provide me the other one. In the meantime, enjoy this one!

You know, as a 19 year old guy from the UK who hasn’t been to a cinema for over 2 years, even I think these advertisements have more charm to them than most cinema ads in today’s cinemas (with a few exceptions). I wonder what it must have been like to go to a cinema within that time period instead of the multiplex cinemas of today.

It was very different before you were born. Cinemas in the UK practically made these all-day affairs where you saw more than just a film by playing other things like newsreels, shorts, cartoons, etc, even intermissions!

Much more of an occasion. It was almost identical to going to the theatre, except you were seeing a film not a live show. Cinema to me has become very casual and bland, with no sense of occasion or event, and there are now so many films that big blockbusters don't stand out amongst the crowd the way they once did. The fact that hardly any staff work in cinemas now makes them somewhat cold also...

What I loved is that there were back to back showing and you could sit through as many as you liked. Very handy on a cold winter's day when you just wanted to gaze into the eyes of your latest boyfriend somewhere warm!

Cinema was an adventure in the early to mid sixties, the Saturday morning kids clubs were brilliant, almost like the Colosseum in Rome, absolutely wild! Kids from the ages of 5 to about 10 years old, no parents only ushers to try and keep some sort of order,it would take me too long to write down what went on ,under the cover of darkness but needless to say the memories that came flooding back brought an enormous smile to my face, it was the Cinerama in Govanhill, Glasgow. It maybe other cinemas weren't as rowdy, the laughs we had will stay with me forever.😂😂😂😂😂👌

What's wrong with you? You get a dollar every time you say the word "disco"?

You found any of the Tiger handheld ads shown in cinemas in the 90s? I remember one of them featuring the special stage music from the Mega Drive Sonic 2!

Man, the tobacco companies saved SO MUCH MONEY when they realized that the market didn't really need them to advertise their products, people were going to buy them anyway.

The Mahaan is still a curry house now under the name Cheadle Tandoori and I'm surprised that The Agra is still going strong as a restaurant business as I've seen on Google Maps.

Cigarette ads were banned from TV in the mid-sixties but continued in cinemas for a further decade. Cigar & pipe-tobacco ads got banned from TV in the early 1990s, not sure when in cinemas.
