    Hi future Physician Assistants! ⚕️
I want to start by saying that I took some time from uploading last week due to the recent events surround George Floyd’s death and the Black Lives Matter Movement. I felt as though uploading a video unrelated to the recent events would be distracting from important discourse that needed (and still needs) to be had. As a future healthcare provider who upholds and values human life, I recognize that I have a responsibility to do my part in shaping the future of medicine. This will be something I look to include more in my efforts towards the Pre-PA community and as a soon-to-be PA student myself. I would encourage each one of you to do the same, and feel free to reach me on instagram with any book recommendations or perspectives that will help me become a more well rounded and culturally competent medical provider. Wishing each of you the best during this time ♡
With that said, I am glad to be back this week with a video on what to do after you submit your PA school application. This is by far one of the trickier things to navigate during the CASPA application cycle, and in this week’s video I break down what I did during the time between hitting the submit button and attending my first PA school interview. Topics include how to make sure your CASPA application was received properly, how to update PA schools on your application, preparing for PA school interview, and how to compartmentalize the stress that is associated with the application process. I hope this sheds some light on the various ways you can utilize this time productively. Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable, this is a long one. :)
I also want to let you guys know that I currently have a personal statement editing service available to everyone applying this cycle, I discuss it more at the end of this video. Feel free to e-mail me at contact@samanthacarolyn.com for more details. :)
Good luck to everyone applying this CASPA cycle, keep working hard out there!
    Enjoy!

This is becoming my favorite PA channel I swear. I love how well/soft spoken you are. You just seem so genuine honestly.

sorry- have you taken communication courses or public speaking courses in college? you’re just so well spoken.. it’s amazing. I’ve been trying to work on my tick of saying “um” and “like”.

Awe thanks, this just made my week. I appreciate your support of my channel and for taking the time to reach out. It was hard to know how I would come across on camera, but I'm really glad that my videos have been well received. I did take a public speaking course in undergrad, but to be honest I'm not sure if that made a significant difference on how I articulate myself. I would say that reading has helped me quite a bit, writing as well, or listening to podcasts that involve people who are well spoken and studying the way they speak (Joe Rogan has incredibly well spoken and insightful guests on his podcast, or Bret Weinstein).
Three general tips for speaking that has helped me is to (1) think of what you want to say before trying to articulate your thoughts out loud (don't rush into speaking because you're more likely to get lost while trying to convey your message, hence the "um"s). (2) Enunciate your words and speak slowly (I am from New York, and we are FAST talkers, this can make you sound like you have marble mouth and makes it difficult to follow along). (3) replace filler words like "um" with things like, "another thing to keep in mind" or "another thing to consider" etc. This is because you are saying "umm" as way to tell the listener you aren't quite done with your train of thought yet, but replacing it with "another thing to keep in mind" or "another thing to consider" etc will help you seem less unsure of yourself while speaking.
I hope that helps! Trust me when I say that I still have plenty to improve upon when speaking, but these tips have helped me in some capacity, so hopefully you find them useful as well! :)

Thanks Manali! It can definitely be tricky to get a ton of info into a short amount of time, so I'm glad the structure of the videos help get the information across easier. :)

So I just applied to PA school and finishing on all the rest of the applications. Is it a good idea to take on a new job in the meantime in a different state? your thoughts? I know its ultimately up to me but the whole last minute interview scares me!
