Building 15-Foot-Tall Pianos
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лют 2025
- David Klavins is a piano maker who, for years, could not find pianos that made the sounds he imagined in his head. So he began building pianos to his own specifications in a workshop in Vác, Hungary, and they are truly unique creations. To wit: Klavins’ vertical concert grand stands over 15-feet tall, and he actually has to climb a ladder to play it, which he does, beautifully, just for us.

I love the soft sound of the little one
It's heavenly
It's like a piano-harp
It's my favorite too!
i'm sorry little one
Me too, some other guy suggested "Debussy" it sounds pretty similar if you're looking for more.
The perfect way to flex in front of other normal piano players
Supreme brand is nothing compared to this
Malik Slap a Supreme logo on anything and it’s suddenly 10x more expensive
make a supreme version of this & u r rich
Slap on a supreme sticker
what kind of life do you lead to even TRY to compare an amazing piano with a brand that has a font that can be easily replicated in mspaint?
@@PapagenoDispo what kind of life do u have to stress in order to write this ?
I love how is last name is Klavins, especially when considering Klavier is German for piano
You learn something new everyday, thanks!
Heh, I even overheard that his names is klavier in my language piano is "Klaviere" (Latvian)
Haven Lo my thoughts exactly. I guess he is destined to build pianos.
Or it could be possible that his name comes from the Austria-Hungarian time (1918 I guess)
Some last names were named after the owner's profession, most notably Carpenter, but there are many others. Probably what happened with this guy's last name.
The smallest piano almost sounds like a Harp... Beautiful
The sound really rides the line between that percussive hit of the hammer and the sound of a plucked string.
The piano essentially is a harp...
Fritz Jackson Debussy would sound great on that
@@thiesenf Well that was Klavins' point essentially. The piano typically has more than one string per note, but that one has only one per note, which kills any of that dual string interference, which is more what a harp is like.
So much greatness compressed into 3-5 minute long videos. GBS always keeping it real.
paid
Technically, by watching this we’re paying them
Is it just me or does the small one kind of sound like a harp?
Well, both instruments have snares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh yeah..... yeah
Pianos are really just harps that are struck with a hammer.
Oh yeah yeah
Open a normal grand piano up, and you'll see the harp sitting there inside it. Literally if you didn't know a piano is just a keyed harp with hammers. Makes me feel more connected to musicians from the time of Rome since the harp was the electric guitar, drum pad, and piano combined for the music of the time.
The small piano won a lot of hearts here, including mine! Celesta/Piano fusion feeling. Voiceover style won less hearts I guess, but thanks for sharing this artist with us!
Some say you and me should team up... :-) Btw., I do admire your work, it IS indeed fantastic..!!
The softness of that first piano genuinely blew me away. I honestly was not expecting it to sound so beautiful and light, like if clouds blowing in the wind were a sound.
It actually sounds good! I like it.
At 3:17, "...to counter the evil on the planet with something very positive."
A very important and profound concept. We as individuals cannot stop much of the evil in the world, but we each have the power to counter evil with our positive actions.
I really don’t think that voiceover suited the style and feel of the video at all
He sounds like that guy from 7 second riddles which i hate so very much
The guy sounds like an insincere tool.
Sounds like a "hilarious animals" video narrator for children.
Especially as he called that famous river the Danoob.
Indeed, please don't use that tone again!
The smile una corda sounds lovely
I want to hear more from that 15 foot piano. It was amazing. No "normal" grand piano can compare.
Imagine if Hans Zimmer used this to score his movies
Nick Barrett some of these pianos, like the first small one, are available in commercial sound libraries. It’s not unlikely Hans himself may have used them at some point.
Funny thing about Hans Zimmer, I heard that he actually invented music. Crazy.
Yeah, the Una Corda and Giant are included in Native Instruments sound library. A ton of artists use them.
Daniel Anthony Drilon nope it's not replicated it's sampled, a lot of micro takes the sound of a real piano
Had the same thought. But imagine if Hans Zimmer accompanied with other piano artist in the making of Interstellar.
Interesting information, but the kids' show narration is a bit belittling.
The small Una Corda, and the way David plays it 💕
I have tears in my eyes. What a beautiful man. May he live to 110.
Thank you so much..!!!
Everybody who likes the sound of the una corda should give Nils Frahm a listen. He's a german pianist who mixes classical piano music with electronic music. His music is absolutely exceptional, you won't be disappointed.
This is the reason why guitarists have thousands of guitar pedals and new ones are being made every day- because they are looking for that perfect sound they have in their head. same with this guy- only he decided to build an instrument to capture that sound- respect.
"Building pianos and creating beautiful music is a very important task these days in particular to counter the evil on the planet by something very positive."
Hannah Pham the wisdom in these words gives me hope.
What an amazing video! I have never heard about this amazing craftman until now, as a Latvian, this has been very refreshing. I feel the sound for the Grand piano is epic af and can't even imagine the sound it resonates in real life.
the sounds of his pianos blew me away. i normally don't like the sound of pianos but his little one was angelic and beautiful. i can losten to that all day. all pianos should sound lile that.
Listening to the little piano
Me:Is this what it feels like when you’re in heaven💕lovely❤️it’s so relaxing😇I want a whole song played on the little piano👍
the resonance and bass and clarity of that 15 ft one is amazing. concert halls should def have one on deck
They could have it right underneath the organ console
The song he is playing is called "The Harp Song", you can find it on his soundcloud page (thepianoguy). Just google "soundcloud thepianoguy" and it's the first song that pops up. Cheers!
Wow, the juxtaposition of the wonderful piano sounds and the over the top almost cynical voice of the narrator is utterly brilliant.
Building pianos and creating beautiful music to counter evil on the planet.
One of the greatest quotes I have heard!
Native Instruments has a sampler of the huge piano. It's called "The Giant" and sounds great. The piano actually sounds bright and sharp/crisp instead of really low as one might expect.
Hey, I know David! He's brilliant, but also one of the nicest human beings you'll ever meet.
This dude has way too much confidence in his clamps
He also built a bunch of precision instruments. I'm gonna trust he knows what he's doing
I think he means the narrator but not sure
@@toms8292 Nah, I meant the guy sitting on a 15ft platform held up by a 2x6 and a couple of clamps
@@toms8292 Also we don't see anyone else playing the pianos other than the creator
It's definitely more than a few clamps holding him up. The platform sits around the frame, and the frame has a slant on it to, giving a stronger hold with gravity. So no, he's not just trusting clamps because the main support is the steel beams holding up the piano
This is so cool! Native Instruments sampled his Una Corda and Giant Piano and I really enjoy using them in my music. They sound so good! Cool to see a video with him!
Narrarator is almost entirely unnecessary, it adds no content and makes true video feel a bit cheap.
Narrator was like a stupid arrogant smart ss
YES, HE'S ANNOYING.
My impression was that he added in the questions later, speaking by himself into a microphone.
Not only is the music beautiful, but so are the pianos!
I have the Una Corda Kontakt library and it's incredible!
it's like a giant grand piano folded 90 degrees XD beautiful sound and craftmanship
The wee una corda is so enchanting! 😍
Wow. Those are the most beautiful sounding pianos that I’ve ever heard. First one especially
Piano was always my favourite instrument. Listening to these pianos is like flying over the clouds.
The world needs more of these, please.
Is no one acknowledging the actual amazing tone quality? That's what is making his improv 20x better to me.
"That's a tall piano!"
the sound of these pianos are so clean oml. would love to hear some relaxing music played with these pianos
I like the little one. It's like your little brother asking for ice cream or juice. Very adorbs
That was so beautiful!! That small piano had such a soul pleasing sound
Old non narrative Video are better ...
It expressed the artist more brightly
The small one just sounds like Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, which means it's the best thing ever.
I love pianos that show off the strings, it’s so satisfying
Something about how clueless the narrator is, as if he walked into the wrong studio and started talking, makes me uncomfortable
Lame attempt... trying to be cool and hip.
@Laz Arus How sweet of you to respond, voice-over guy!
if any of you are wondering how this piano sounds in musical pieces, check out the album "Solo" by Nils Frahm. it was entirely played and recorded on the M370 shown in this video, and it's undoubtedly one of the most beautiful piano albums i know of
That is some really beautiful music he plays, anybody got any names?
I was wondering too.
Ask Erikstad That would be awesome!
@@Azchk please do it's beautiful
@@Azchk love that
@@Azchk that would be amazing!
Is he seriously stepping onto a platform that is held by a bunch of clamps?
The search for the best sound in the world come with risks😂😂
Drag car engines are held on simply by hose clamps... what’s your point ?
Crazy Crocodile he’s standing on a platform where he could potentially fall and get serious injury
Definitely not OSHA certified
They all sound amazing!
I'd love to hear the Well Tempered Clavier being performed on this instrument.
His pianos have almost a harp like quality to the sound. Very nice 👍
I love the way he speaks
0:45 I've never seen strings being made, that was amazing
There's a short video of David Klavins winding the first string for his M450i on his Instagram:
instagram.com/p/BUycp7FjOkj/
It sounds almost like a harp. Then again, it was the progenitor of the modern day piano.
Ohhh, they sound sooo sweet.
Building beautiful music to conquer evil in something positive. Wow just wow
Idk what it is but I am sobbing non-stop with the first piona melody.
What a touching sound.
I can live in that warehouse, all day long listening and relaxing.
2:58 is so relaxing I need to learn how to play this
The smallest one would be perfect for in home. It’s beautiful. So are the others of course.
Moved and moving. Such a beautiful sound 💖
I've never heard such amazing sounds
What song is that?
The narrator ruined it.
Loved the smallest piano.
This guy is a genius.
Shut up and take my money.
wanna know thr song too
This man has written the perfect comment
Found your answer, its called The Harp Song. You can find it on his youtube channel. Ur welcome :P
@@SoldBrainCellsforGE thanks man!
This is the nicest piano ever
This is really something different from my old boring ‘normal’ piano😍
Such a beautiful sound, such beautiful work. BRAVO! 👏
The small piano sounds best imo. Beautiful creations
Andrew Osei Can you be more detailed ? I think the small one seems like it is in a sweet spot, the other two has better bass but it loses the softness, intimacy and sweetness that the smallest version has. Do you agree ?
Una Corda 😍 love the sound especially on Kontakt Native Instrument
I want one. And I love that library with the first piano.
These sound so beautiful
Yayyy finally an episode from Hungary my home
No idea how big or small 15 feet is, clicked anyway
*_dedication_*
Very beautiful sounding pianos. 💕
The highschool where I studied for 8 years is right next to the cathedral in the first shot. Vác is a beautiful little city in Hungary
What was he playing there?Whats the song he was playing all the time.
He was playing this ua-cam.com/video/y6120QOlsfU/v-deo.html

If shit was music, you would be an orchestra...
@@kln.b5631 I concur
I want to buy the small one, it's so relaxing ;w;
The small unicorda is very jazzy, I love it.
The first one sounds amazing... Id love to play some Chopin or Debussy on that

Amazing Pianos
wow!!!...magical sounding!!!
This piano is now located in Ventspils University, Latvia. This piano doesn't need anyone to play it. It can play itself.
These pianos are so amazing!! Their sounds remind me of musicboxes
Normal Pianos: *exist*
Hungarians: _we should go bigger_
Klavins is latvian tho :^)
They sound like a harp💜
You could add to the video description above that this piano has been installed in a new concert hall in Latvia.
Interesting! It sounds more like a harp. I love it!
Nice!
I'm determined to play one of these one day. God bless this man and his crazy ingenuity.
"To counter to evil of this planet"
Well said.
Wow so beautiful sound it has
they all sound better than normal pianos, and definitely better than school pianos
Interesting concept... it also shows better why pianos are string and percussion instrument hybrids.
I guess it's a matter of preference and aesthetics though, but seems that the strings could also to up instead of down, and perhaps even sideways if you change the hammer mechanism.... if the sole objective is directing sound towards the audience I mean.
really amazing! learn something new everyday
Does anyone know what he’s playing or how I can hear more of it? It’s so beautiful.
Thanks so much, Ronan! As there's quite some love expressed here for this improvisation (a demo-motive of mine), I'll record it as a piece and upload it on my Soundcloud page (thepianoguy), sometime this weekend. :-)
David Klavins Thank you so much!
@@RonanDiaz It's out on Soundcloud now - hope you will enjoy..! :-)
I’m a piano player, and this guy is awesome!
