HEDY LAMARR - Beyond 40 she was still beautiful

  • Hedy Lamarr was cursed with exceptional beauty and was, arguably, the most beautiful woman ever on film. Hundreds, if not thousands, of photographs of her in her prime are in circulation to attest to this. However Hedy's phenomenal looks stayed with her throughout the 40's and 60's. Hedy always presented herself immaculately in public and could create a hushed awe when entering a room but possibly the only person in the world who was not captivated by that look was Hedy herself. She dabbled with plastic surgery in the 70's probably only for commercial reasons associated with public appearances. Photos taken soon after surgery with swollen features are not truly representative and have not been included in this video. Hedy has now probably become better known today for her World War ll invention (along with George Antheil) of frequency-hopping spread spectrum but that is another story. The curse of beauty? - Probably a magnetism that drew her to the wrong men!
    The majority of the photos featured in this compilation are from the author's private collection. Copyright of some uncredited and obtained from the internet does, of course, reside with the original photographers. The 1997 photos are attributed to Hedy's friend, Arlene Roxbury. Other late in life photos may be attributable to Hedy's daughter, Denise Loder - de Luca who appears with her mother in the 1960's photo.
    The song "You Are So Beautiful" composed by Billy Preston & Bruce Carleton Fisher and recorded by Kenny Rogers & David Foster seems to fit well with the images and will, hopefully, remain in place in this video subject to their approval.

    She invented WiFi and was extremely intelligent and articulate.
    I saw an interview she did when she was around 50 and the interviewer was drooling over her.
    It must have been irritating to be judged merely on her beauty when she was so far ahead of her time.
    A brilliant Scorpio woman.
    RIP.

    Elizabeth Taylor was 40, when she became a grandma. So 40 is not OLD. Between Hedy, and Gene Tierney, two of the most beautiful women in cinema history. Only difference Hedy, had brains and gave the world Wi fi!

    As the compiler of this video I am pleased that many people comment on the aspect of age and in particular the selection of the age of 40. The selection of this age for the title was a somewhat arbitrary decision to enable me to show pictures of Hedy in the closing years of her movie career (1954-7) and subsequent occasional TV and court appearances! In the following years she still maintained a size 10 figure on one meal a day and applied her makeup to retain a glamourous look. She resorted to plastic surgery on face and body through the 70’s and photographs of her taken soon after such procedures did not show her in a good light. Was this really necessary? Who knows? Hedy was blessed with a facial symmetry which can probably only be defined with mathematics! Or perhaps by making reference to other stars who bear similarity. Often mentioned are Vivien Leigh, Gene Tierney and Elizabeth Taylor. Beauty is, however, subjective and people from around the world other than from the UK and USA might make a different selection. Maybe I should change the title of my video but as it seems to be provoking much discussion I’ll perhaps leave it as it is. Thank you so much for all your comments and for keeping the memory of this exceptional lady alive.

    Is it really that difficult to look good after 40? Is that really such a feat to accomplish?

    • @Ilostmyfob
      @Ilostmyfob 7 років тому +13

      Exactly! It's not. She was a beauty - and when you are, you generally can retain your beauty, and grow older with grace. That is what we as women really should be allowed to do. Too much focus on age! :)

      Be. Wise I remember looking at Playboy magazines in my youth and to me, seeing those airbrushed photos weren't a turn-on at all. It was like looking at Barbie dolls. I much prefer older women.

    In my humble opinion, Hedy Lamarr and Gene Tierney were the two most beautiful brunettes of the 30's and 40's. Their onscreen presence was a pleasure to see. Strictly from a man's perspective, neither one of them was "hard on the eyes", and they oozed quiet (and sometimes not so quiet) sexuality. Classic beauties, both.

    You must be a child, people don't suddenly get ugly just because theyn age. If you are beautiful at a younger age, then if you don't abuse your body you can stay beautiful as youm age, What's wrong with you?

      I like Kenny Rogers ordinarily, but not covering this song! I knew of Hedy through other actors and heard her name around when I was in Florida. The autobiography that came out in the 1960s which made so many derogatory claims, which people are quoting here, was mostly BS. It wasn't even written by her. She wasn't bisexual, fake news!
