Social media is a weird place. For every person who says something like "just make the thumbnails you like, don't be like them" there's 99 people scrolling through letting their lizard brain run the show, and will only click on stuff that's catchy. Rather than making something that stands out because it's interesting, you have to pander to the masses endlessly scrolling for things to click. Anyone telling you "well just don't do it then" are the same type of people who would tell you"if you're complaining about your job why do you keep going?" They've either never had a job they didn't like, never had a family to support, or are just hypocrites. That said, hopefully it never gets to a point where it does become too much to deal with, because personally I'll miss the content.
Yep, it's one of the things with making "content" that I absolutely despise. I long for the day I can just oursource that sh!1 and not have to worry about it.
On social media you have to play the game. Thumbnails, titles and shit are there for people to see your content. It (sadly) doesn´t matter how artistic something is if nobody sees it. Ruri is too informative on his thumbnails still and the titles are even less clickbait! I´m a firm believer that good channels should clickbait the fuck out of everything because the shit channels do and i don´t want to watch shit videos, i want the good ones.
Make an anime avatar for the thumbnails. Some vtuvers go really crazy with the thumbnails and it seems to work better than regular thumbnails) Case in point, Pipkin Pippa. Edit-Rurikhan, there might be some contributing factors to why nobody would click on a video about a Vita exclusive; just saying.
The Soul Sacrifice cover you liked was way too busy and lost readability where the alternative is much more simplistic and easier to read from 10 feet away...
Damn, Soul Sacrifice; that takes me back. I played Delta long before I even found your channel. I wish they had released it to PC. That game doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
Also I do believe that the youtube algorithm has facial recognition technology that literally scans for these derpy faces and promotes them more than other videos. It's definitely entirely possible for them to do this and it would kind of make sense.
I can't stand clickbait thumbnails and titles, if I see a clickbait title or a thumbnail that has a red circle, an arrow, an open mouth face, or some other kind of thing that screams "clickbait", I make a mental note to NOT click on the video, because I know it's going to be poorly produced, using annoying effects to cover up the fact 99% of the video is fluff (sound effects, changing the audio pitch of random words and doing photobooth on their face to be "funny"), and burying the lede somewhere between 75% and 90% of the way into the video. That said, I do think there's a huge difference between clickable and clickbait. However, people that defend clickbait because it gets more views should ask themselves, how many of those viewers stick around past 30 seconds or just skip to the "good part" that someone highlighted in the comment section? If I see a clickbait video in my homepage, I select "not interested in this video".
I actually didn't know you had those Soul Sacrifice videos until about 15 minutes ago. I went searching for the game on PC and one of the results was your video on Steam.
Me and a friend had a conversation about this awhile back. It’s crazy how the content creation game is now. The shocked and over exaggerated facial expressions is annoying, but it’s what it takes. That and “I can’t believe we found this” or “this is too OP” text stamped on every rpg video.
Same, i hate thumbnails too, they are too ignorant and they are starting to make people more ignorant, they have to make these because they need to keep the channel running, that isnt much freedom in my opinion but, at least to me, the disgusting part is that they are progressively getting more ambiguous, like the title and the thumbnail are created not to inform the user of what they are gonna watch but what they are gonna expect, they want you to think "oh i wonder how is that" or " is it really like this" or again "i need to understand better what they mean by that title or thumbnail image" to be then disappointed because you expected something differend, by the time you clicked they acieved their goal, the most stupid ones use usually quote "you cand BELIEVE what is THIS😢😊" or " you wont believe what happened..." with some questionable thumbnail with a phrase that isnt even in the video, other like big, talkative channels use : all without capital words the simpliest of all titles and a thumbnail of themselves without edits, usually in the act of speaking, it maybe seems like a natural thumbnail and in part it is but at the same time, multiple people use this stile for thumbnail and it is forced because it works, the previous example show also the very VERY popular methot that consist in the use of some, often 1 or 2 words that are in full capital letters , example: Warch how COOL these shoes are!!!" , the choice of the word is in the majority of cases the word that suggest some sort of power of the thing they are going to show in the video, to me they are often dull in content tho, ah yes and the overgrowing use of emoji in title is getting out of hand, the last thing i want to point out is the fact that they are starting to use the thumbnail as the title of the video, you can understand how this can make a lot of people fall to the click, unfortunately now these videos are like 95% of all youtube new videos in at least 4 years, this means you are going to click w lot of this videos cause there isnt much left... how sad You made a sussy thumbnail on purpose i bet 😂
I started doing youtube seriously (weekly uploads) a while back and i also very much hate the thumbnails. But as a small youtuber there is pretty much no way to get decent views without them.
I just recently watched your soul sacrifice videos, but there where only 8 of them avaliable for me, in this video it shows 26, is it because of my region maybe? wonder if it happend with other videos as well... anyway, thanks for another great video!
@@RurikhanUnleashed ohhhhh, it felt like you're that male friend that we don't know the name nor ask... just waiting for another person in the group to call by the name to know... good to know, thanks!
I hate the spoilers. For example when youtubers put end-game pokemon in the thumbnail four days to a week after game release. You expect us all to speedrun and finish the game in a week? Even more annoying is this is coming from channels I really like. I don't want to unsubscribe but I don't I want spoilers in my feed either. If youtube had feed filters so we could sort out videos with certain titles that would kind of solve the problem.
I love how Rui is loosing his shit there and the chat is just trolling him even more xD to be fair, Pally is doing some good work whit his thumbnails for warhamer gameplay. I love it. Idk how it translate to views tho :T
I actually don’t care what the thumbnail looks like. I only click if it’s something I care to watch. The things I personally hate seeing are: 1. Incomplete/vapid/clickbait titles that either offer sensationalist headers or curiosity by omission. You know - those titles that say things like “I don’t like where this is going…”. You have to click on the video to even know wtf the maker is even talking about. 2. Creators that spam feeds with tons of filler because reasons. Those that think doing posting a poll or meme everyday is engaging. It’s not. It’s just flotsam in my subscription feed. It’s worse when it’s unrelated to the core content that I originally subscribed for. It’s wonderful scrolling though anime waifu tropes from a science channel. 3. Creators that deviate wildly from core content. I don’t want to hear about real estate and crypto from a channel that does engine rebuilds.
I dont like alot those thumbnails either. Only click bait I accept is the song click bait by c-side from splatoon 3. Ehehehe joking aside I wish that wasn't the case though that they do that. Also thanks for reminding me alot of game box arts is also very boring and missing the beautiful art. Makes the few rare cases when we get it anyways stand out more though, like when nier replicant and dragon quest 11 on switch had the cool art instead of the boring 3-d models in default action pose.
I mean...you're apart of the problem you're complaining about ;) Love you. If this is your only source of income i get it, you gotta play the game but if not, fuck it be different do something else.
Many people here think that it's as easy as not doing it. You never complained about a job you don't intend on leaving? Edit: (forgetting how to english)
6:30 weird how you people call some things "flaws" when they succeed at what they aim for. Like... sure the dumb youtuber face and other practices that put less effort into detial and more into shock value, might look poor but, they try to attract costumers, and they succeed. While you're on a cloud going "oh look at that color, hoho, flawed", in reality, said flawed products call the attention of people It's like those snobs that love black and white movies where 60% is 2 people talking slowly in a dark room...they call that art and jerk off over their own selected curated media, calling the rest "bad" but that "bad" media makes a shit ton more of money, of fan fics, generates fans, traction, spin offs, videogames and whatnot, aka, more successful in every way than said snob movie Who's the real "professional" then when the supposedly flawed product does better than a "approved by you" one?

I’m heavily considering unsubbing to Rage gaming videos. I’m happy for them for their success, but the amount of nothing videos, over exaggerated thumbnails and titles makes me feel like there’s no… real passion for what they do, it feels manufactured and made for the views, even when I know it’s not entirely the case…
The last straw for me with Rage Gaming was the Fatalis controversy where they cheated to get the first kill just to put out a video of the armor set. I feel that was where you can see the manufacturing of the content of that channel for the sole reason of views, specifically the Fatalis set stats, and I feel that it was an insult to everyone who got their videos legitimately.
I loved Rage. One of my favorite yt channels. But when they are covering a game I want to play I can't sub. They've spoiled end-game bosses 3 times for me in their thumbnail now.
I totally can imagine how infantilizing the UA-cam thumbnail game can be. I really wish we could move past these aesthetics already, but alas.
I came across your video while looking for observations about the psychology of mouth agape thumbnails. They are quite insufferable.
