Great video! I forgot about Truro in BR Black, and I saw this video at the perfect moment, as I was preparing to build a Dapol City kit. And guess what I did? Built it in BR Black. There is a video of how I built it on my channel, and thanks for reminding me of this April Fools prank Stepney!
The painting of Taw Valley Purple is a brilliant idea by the Severn Valley, I don't think any loco is going to be more talked about when she get's unveiled and it certainly will draw a bunch of visitors to the railway which is always a good thing
This one is brilliant, I had the privilidge of visiting the severn valley for their autumn steam gala back in September and I enjoyed travelling on the line. I really like Arley station, I was absolutely blown away when I went there. :)
I have a story about Arley station. Many years ago my sister belonged to a rambling club the chairman of which was also the stationmaster at Snow Hill station in Birmingham - so all the trips that they took had to start and finish at a railway station so he could use his free pass. A trip was organised to start at Arley station and several people who had come by car had gathered at the station to await the arrival of the train. Someone from the station came out and said "what are you waiting for - there are no trains hear today" - they replied oh yes there is - and a few minutes later along comes the train! and the chairman got out. - The train normally stopped at Bewdley but the chairman had used authority to extend the journey to Arley. Arley is one of my favorite places along the river Severn. In my day there was a passenger ferry operated by the current to get across the river but now there is a footbridge. Regards from Redruth Arnold
As an American, its really cool to see railroads like this. We don't have a lot of big heritage lines in the USA. If you ever get the chance to, TVRM is one of the greatest railroad museums in the eastern US and regularly runs steam powered trips.
I was quite young, but my favorite railway experience happened when I was there. It was pouring rain, and quite dark, and it was the last train up to Kidderminster, perhaps the last of the day (though we're usually on the last train of the day). It was pulled by a diesel of some kind I think, and we were in a mk2 from memory, and it all just felt like I was back in the 70s on a mainline, not to mention its where I first saw flying scotsman in running order, and where I first saw Tornado, well, at all.
Great pacing in this one, and Guide Rail as a whole. Never knew much about the SVR despite being fascinated by it so much. Little things like the mention of the potential new platform near the Safari area, turntable and that *they* are the ones constructing the Hydrogen Diesel were nice quick beat nuggets of info! And a great variety of footage as well!
@@Terrier55Stepney No probs! I think it's a rare case of where, more padding benefits the video rather than hinders it. Sure you could exclude the mention of a potential new turntable, given its a throwaway line that you could trim *IF* you had a timeframe limit (but you don't, eyyyy!) But it adds for little reactions that I for eg had like "Really? Nice thats interesting, hadn't heard that before"
@@TheBlueE2 I'm glad you think so because this more than any of the other videos was the one I was worried was too lengthy and had too much dialogue crammed in. It was an extra 3 minutes when I first edited it and trimmed it down. Too much to talk about! For future ones I'm really aiming to make them a bit more compact because I talk forever and they're taking too long to make, but at the same time it's hard to know what info to keep and to cut.
So I’m not the only one? I don’t like BR black, but it’s quite nice to see engines that would’ve been retired/scrapped long before the grouping in the BR colours.
I thought it was going to reveal that painting Taw Valley purple was going to be just a prank. 😶 Actually I think City of Truro looked superb in lined black.
No the repainting of Taw Valley into purple is not a prank, it is to celebrate the Queens platinum anniversary and the Commonwealth games in Birmingham, the painting of City of Truro into Black was a prank for April fools day that did not go down too well with the National Railway Museum.
I have a happy memory and photos of visiting as a kid in the early 70's, when you could wander across the lines at the engine shed Bridgnorth. Trains then only went to Hampton Loade.
why would it? These are on preserved engines and people want to see them as they remember them, that is why people pay to travel behind them. Nonsense liveries are not popular
If I owned locomotives I would paint them in the most inappropriate liveries. Say hello to GNER A4's, or Network SouthEast Battle of Britains. Everyone would hate me and I would bathe in the tears of angry people on Facebook.
03:30 - 3205 arrived with more than 2 coaches - think it was more like 4 coaches, although I can't remember where I've seen that 🙂 Also, initially, the line extended to Bewdley/Foley Park where the BSC sidings were located from about 1974 until the extension to Kidderminster in the mid 1980's 🙂 14:00 Bridgnorth is in Shropshire 🙂
fun fact I actually fired and drove 3205 on the South Devon railway during a day out on the footplate back in 2014 as a special 18th birthday gift. I loved it despite feeling a little bit ill from traveling back from Cardiff in a van and working with my Dad at a event.
4 minutes felt too long wathcing you describe a real story far too similar to The Titfield Thunderbolt without using clips and photos. This may be April fools, but it's still factual. Also I quite like City or Truro in BR black, probably the only engine I think that livery benefits.
