What is the specific type of watering tray you are using with the insert, and what is the large size of the largest tray? Did you get it at Gardeners Supply also? Thank you.
Hi, These trays are 22"L x 15"W X 2" deep that I purchased at Gardener Supply Catalog: www.gardeners.com/buy/self-watering-tray-for-grow-bags/38-561.html They have very sturdy supports through out so the top tray doesn't bend under the weight of my plants. There is a small notch in the top tray to use for filling without disturbing the plants. Thank you so much for the question! Mary
Thank you for your question, sorry for the delay. You can find the whole system on Gardener's Supply Catalog. They sell the system as well as replacement parts. www.gardeners.com/buy/capillary-matting-seedling-tray-7-qt/8609872.html
Yes, the heater is waterproof. Most of them are to accommodate watering plants on top of them. I also keep have a powers trip with GFCI for additional safety.
Hi, thank you for asking. I have purchased mine at Gardener's Supply Catalog that sells a 3 yard length which is really all I have needed, here is the link, www.gardeners.com/buy/capillary-matting/40-385.html. If you are looking for more, Growers Supply sells 100' lengths, here is the link, www.growerssupply.com/farm/supplies/prod1;;pg106223.html. Cheers!
please note that as with all wick systems etc. nutrients and color will go in both directions. thus by using water low on nutrients the nutrients might get into the water reservoir and if it is too big - this might be an issue as nutrient levels might get too low.... this should not happen if the soil volume is bigger than the water volume .... another issue is that diseases and fungi might spread from one plant to another as they share a common water reservoir, nutrients etc.
Thank you so much for adding that information! Very helpful. I typically use my capillary mats for starting seedlings which results in only using them for a couple of weeks to avoid those issues. Occasionally I'll use them if I am going on vacation to keep my houseplants watered. After use I wash in a mild bleach solution and then leave out in the sun for a day to decrease the risk of disease.

Your cap. mat is on top of the seedling heater.
Is your seedling heater waterproof?
Are there possible issues with heaters and the cap. mat?

Do you have a link to where you go the capillary mat? Thanks.
