After watching this, I will not EVER complain again when I have to put one of our cats into a carrier for the 20 minute drive to the vet! I'm so very happy that Big Joe is not sterile! After cats, Bison are my favorite animals. Let me rephrase that. Cats are my favorite domesticated animal and Bison are my favorite wild animal. Bison are so majestic, so beautiful. Doc Parsons is a Great vet!

Lol! I go through that with my kitties too. Cats are my fav animal as well. Next time you have to use the crate, if you have a Pet Taxi hard crate, stand it vertically, and lower the kitty into the crate bottom first. It's a Lot easier than trying to shove them in when it's on the bed or couch.

I spent 20 years in the US Navy and didn't hear as much foul language as one does anywhere in public these days.

I was happy to see that you had the help of Tyler . Thank you Tyler because I think Dusty gets more stressed out than Big Joe who was actually pretty chill today and his '' ladies '' seemed very content to have him back with them . Also , Congratulations concerning Big Joe's ability to continue to breed successfully as I'm sure that gives you peace of mind . I agree with your idea about last year as the '' ladies '' might not have been ready to accept him at that time . Hopefully they will have full trust in his ability to take care of them this year . Doc Parson's is a great vet as he is so knowledgeable and explains things so well . When he spoke of the bison's natural predators weeding out the weak in a very natural way that spoke to me of my own belief - nature will repair itself if given enough time and man does not introduce things against the laws of nature . Thank you for another great video , Dusty and please tell Marissa her flowers are lovely .

Thank you for taking us along... I can hear him say "and then, you know what they did to me?!" I know he's not human, but I've been with a male human who went through this same set of procedures.... The discussions we had were hilarious. Also, Just remember, it is usually the ladies that make the final decision. I look forward to find out about the genetics. Well done! Tyler can learn a lot from you, mentorship is extremely valuable in growing skills in the next generation. Yeah Tyler!

Thank you for all of the teaching today! What a great video and experience! I immediately went to the internet to learn more about the Bison Bottleneck. (The National Park Service has a great column about Bison called "Bison Bellows". Lots of information and pictures/videos.) Could you tell us a bit more about the beefalo controversy? Is that because it conflicts with having "pure" herds? I can see that it would be a conflict of interest between those that want to preserve the American Bison herd as genetically pure as possible vs. those that are only interested in making a profit with beefalo. Beefalo do not seem to appear in the popular media or restaurants as often as they did in the 80s and 90s, but perhaps I have just not seen/heard much information. As the daughter and sibling of 2 OSU Animal Science grads (and mom who was an OSU home economics education major) I am always pleased to hear about OSU! Good for Tyler--he is in a great place! Again--thank you for teaching us with every video, and for all you do to preserve our American Bison!

I think the biggest controversy is that some of the raisers of beefalo were pushing (IMO) Heart Doctors to push their product on their patients as a healthier meat option for those who have had strokes, heart attacks, and heart surgeries. I know they told my dad to eat beefalo when he had his stint put in after his heart attack a few years ago but I winged out on them and said if he HAS to go to that lean of a red meat it would be pure bison but being on limited income that was not happening either, so we did more chicken, fish, pork (loin, chops aka less fatty of the cuts), venison (when we could get it) etc. A friends dad was told the same thing 30 years ago so that was all he would buy for years and years and still does to this day that I know of. On the other side, you have producers like Dusty and Doc that are trying to keep the herds as pure as they can trying to preserve a native species that was nearly wiped out by hatred of the Indigenous People who depended on them for survival, and many for their greed to make a buck by selling hides, bones etc. I am glad some had the vision in the beginning to save these majestic animals or they would be another statistic in horrible history of statistics of what we do to the species on this planet when they get in our way.

Yes, the Emminant Domain behavior of the non-Indigenous people has done soooo much harm, for well over 600-14,000 years, in all of the America's. Well beyond the current 600 years of white old men & their "good ole boys club" mentality.
So very painful to sooo many.

Wow! You have to be physically fit to move those bison. All that fence jumping and quick movements are so necessary. I’m glad Joes fertility test results were good. He didn’t seem to mind the attention from his ladies when he returned home. Maybe some extra cubes will help him forget the day or at least forgive you. Thanks for sharing.

How great to be able to add Big Joe's genetics to the registry! I'm happy to see you participating in the NABR. Not only are you able to ensure that your bison have a pure bison lineage, but by keeping the registry, the NABR is able to track genetic abnormalities and help producers keep those abnormalities from continuing through the breed

Big Joe had very good news for you. That was a great visit. Registration is important so the bison don't breed with close family. I am glad you got to see for yourself. 😊 it sounds like it's best to keep him with the ladies that now accept him. Thanks Dusty. You got some great pictures of bog Joe on this trip.

Saw fertility testing on one of Daniel’s animals so interesting to now see it done for Big Joe. So glad all is well, and he can get busy! Has Doc written any books? His knowledge needs to be preserved for future bison ranchers. I’m always intrigued by what he had to share. The NABR sounds like an amazing organization. What foresight it took to create and implement this! Going to do a bit of research on it because genetics like this interest me. Glad Tyler was able to help out, and share time with you!

awesome news about Big Joe so happy for yall so glad he's got lots of swimmers and these cows over here at the ponderos so definitely seem to love him a lot so hopefully there will be lots of red dogs from him next year probably the cows at the old place just didn't take to him that well and that's why there wasn't the red dogs like you were hoping for this year. I know it was disappointing but that happens but at least now yall know Big Joe is good to go and his cows over here on the ponderosa really seemed love him so praying for lots of red dots next year on the ponderosa, and back on the home property with Dunbar also. God bless yall

I am happy that Big Joe got the thumbs up from doc's test!! I have to be honest I was on pins and needles watching this till you said the results, and started crying when you said he was good to go! Never even crossed my mind about the cows "accepting" him. Honestly I LIKE Dunbar for his crazy rear end antics but I LOVE Big Joe, not sure what it is besides he has a look in his eyes that I have not seen in Dunbar's to date. I have seen that "look of eagles" in a couple of my horses and they were always the most regal acting and kindest "old spirit" horses I ever owned, smarter then a whip too, that is exactly what I see in Big Joe and his disposition/temperament for his size and age. Dusty could you show in a future video more on the DNA testing, the results and compare say Big Joe's to say Dunbar and even Hoss on their "origin" percentages? I would be curious to know if there are any Roosevelt, Niobrara, Custer, Yellowstone, etc. and percentage in each of them. I know percentages are important on keeping as much bio-diversity in the herds overall to prevent another bottleneck in the genetics.

Have also seen the look. My eldest daughter & I attended many Renaissance Festivals, for several years, in Michigan & Wisconsin. One Raptor rehab-er man, from Texas, had a show. The female Golden Eagle, was rehabbed but not eligible for release. She flew overheard of the seated & standing crowd watching his presentation.
My daughter & I waited to visit after the show. The Golden Eagle was perched on a 4' tall stump. I was encouraged to visit with her 1:1. She was a wee bit taller than my 5'6" & I was allowed to pet her head feathers.
I looked into her Golden (HUGE) eyes. Mentally told her I was a Mom & appreciated her being a GE ambassador... she sat so still... looked into my SOUL.... warm "goosebumps" I call "God chills".
Such a gentle peaceful feeling. That feeling is easily recalled when, to this day, I see her eyes & feel her calmness. So POWERFUL, yet, ? Possible understanding?
