The new album The Likes Of Us is superb. I got the same feeling listening to it as I did to the brilliant An Hour Before It's Dark by Marillion. It's so wonderful to hear modern Prog, we all love listening to the old Prog from Genesis, Yes, Floyd etc, but how brilliant it is to hear some genuinely wonderful new Progressive Music. One reviewer said it was almost as Genesis from 1973 had just entered a time machine and came forward to 2024 to make some new music. Big Big Train are very much their own band, but they always give recognition to their influences. Even though David Longdon is no wonder with us you can truly feel his spirit in this record. Great interview Jim, and Greg is such a good bloke and great musician.
Brilliant to see Greg getting out there and talking the talk around the circuit. Maybe finally everyone will get to hear this excellent creative band. The new album is superb and live BIG BIG TRAIN is seriously impressive - each member a seriously great multi instrumentalist and strong vocalist - strength in depth … any one of them capable of delivering a great solo. Now finally hitting America after many setbacks! Check them out if you don’t know them. Start with UNDERFALL YARD. The new album is also beautiful - and very unique. If you love early GENESIS this is for you - but a genuinely big band - brass band , violin, two guitars, lots of keyboards and Nick Di Virgilio one of the best drummers on the planet. Please get MARIA BARBIERI back from time to time!
I love Greg, we apparently spent many evenings in the same room watching nwobpr bands in the early 80s. I second his recommendation for Mew's And Glass Handed Kites - fantastic modern prog. Thanks for such great intimate interview.
Twisted!! No one else I know bought it! It snarls and shouts and wails and cries and it was a constant during a hugely emotional time in my life. So looking forward to the new BBT album - great interview Jim, you gave Greg ‘space’.
Hi Jim, This is turning into a habit😅; another interview. Always interesting. I know Big Big Train for a few years now. I really like their music. My father worked at the dutch railway 🚞
Lovely interview Jim. I first saw Greg at a Steve Hackett gig in Oxford with David and not long after I saw them at Cadogan Hall to start my live BBT journey. Hope you will review another BBT album soon and thanks again.
In a bizarre twist of fate, I saw Pink Floyd live at Earl’s Court with Greg in 1994. At the time, he was working full time and my sister was a colleage and was good friends with him. She knew he was into prog, so we all went together.
Hi Jim, great interview! I think now you should really listen to a couple of Big Big Train albums we've been waiting for: "The Underfall Yard" and "English Electric" (parts 1 and 2), they're seminal records of modern prog. Don't miss them!
Bought all of Big big train material up till David died, havnt been able to fathom the direction theyve gone to .. dont like the band line up or the Lead singer

Two genuine good blokes having a great chat! Looking forward to the new album - not long now!
Two interesting chaps, a very enjoyable conversation.. I am planning on seeing BBT in NJ soon.
Thanks!
I love that Greg Spawton mentioned the incredible Justin Currie (from Del Amitri). One of the greatest songwriters and singers on the planet.

Great Great Chatting!
Nice chat, Jim! Greg seems like a very chill, down to earth gentleman.
Yup, just a decent normal bloke, no rock star pretentiousness!
