Thank you for the glimpse of Belinda's farm. That donkey was hilarious! Please let Belinda know that we appreciate seeing her and her farm too. Better Together sounds like a great idea. I wish you both much success!

Dr. Sandi. Every farmer eventually gets a pharmacopoeia of drugs approved by their vet - with instructions on how to do routine care, and even stronger instructions on when to call for help and what to do then. So guys- please don't give her a hard time for doing what she's been taught to do. Farmers wear so many hats!
And my hat's off to you miss Sandi - you are doing awesome work! Love the "Better Together" brand and what you all are experimenting with - good luck on that one!

If you took every lamb or ewe to the vet for every sneeze or owie you wouldn’t be able to sustain yourself as a farmer! We learn to care for our animals so we can save money and be able to administer care much faster than if a vet needed to be involved for everything. Livestock vets are amazing - they save lives and really don’t want to see the animals for everything! They expect us to be able to care for our animals with their advice but not always their hands on treatment. Keep doing what you are doing! Thank you for showing tough situations where you know you will get negative feedback from those not used to what goes in to owning livestock. It’s always nice to watch someone who can speak intelligently on the ins and outs of livestock farming! Thank you!

Sandi, Those Black Clouds are a normal Florida every day thunder storm clouds for us. Since we are into our rainy season down here, We have those kind of Storms almost every day, Some are just lite and some are very intense with Serve Thunder Storm Warnings and Tornadoes. We have seen it rain up over 6 inches with one Thunder Storm, Roads flooded, ditches overflowing and with in a few hours, You never knew it had down poured. That is Florida.

We have a farm local to where I am in Scotland who are doing meat boxes; and fruit and veg boxes just now during our lockdown. It’s great as we just pay over the phone, then park up in their car park and they come out and put the stuff in the boot (trunk). Has proven really popular since it’s limited contact; saves folks time going to supermarkets, and also supports our local farmers.

As a farmer you must have many jobs. You are a vet, midwife, weatherman, hoof trimmer, nutritionalist, builder and many other jobs. They key to being a successful farmer is to love your animals and give them the best possible care with the knowledge that you have at the time. There is always room to learn more.

Sandi, I have an idea for your Garden. Prop one or two of the bad gates up for your cucumber plants to climb. They will be much easier to harvest and take up lesss space too. Nice idea for the gift boxes / meat boxes. If the idea works out, you would have a good market in the US as well as Canada. People are still getting their food shopping done online as much as possible, so having farm raised meat sent to your door would be nice, I think. :)

Do you have any of that belly wool left from sheering? It's pretty easy to extract the lanolin from sheepswool for use on cracked teats (Lanolin is the active ingredient in most moisturizers, including the prescription creams prescribed to human women with the same problem). It's basically just boiling and straining. There's tutorials online.

Please tell your friend, Belinda, that her donkey braying reminds me of our neighbors that had a donkey when I was little. Being originally from the city, that braying scared me a bit the first few times I heard it. But now in life it is a cherished sound along with sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and most of all horses and cows.

I wonder if that spray-on stuff could help with the feeders- the stuff that cheesy commercial shows being sprayed on a screen door that they make a boat out of. I can't remember what it's called, but it's like a spray-on rubber coating. Might be good to spray the bottom of the feeders with, so that they don't get any moisture against the metal on the bottom.

This “one” may need extra help because that break was so high up but you are a pro with broken legs 99.9 % of the time. That’s why you didn’t call a Vet and don’t let others change your mind about that. Loved seeing your gifts this time. If you lived in the USA you would have to a gift opening day each week. I follow other farms that get so many gifts that Sunday Morning are gift opening day. So happy Jess got Graduation gifts. Sorry she didn’t get to walk on Graduation!!

Sandi, I learned how to cast a fracture like you did. In medical school and residency, procedures are taught very quickly. Regarding the learning of such procedures, whether it be delivering a baby, starting an arterial line or inserting a chest tube, the mantra is : 1). See one 2) Do one 3). Teach one. So you’re fine, my dear.

Good morning. Maybe for your feeders, you can buy vehicle undercoating in a spray can. It dries to a hard plastic shell, and easily to apply, , just spray it on and let dry. Available at auto supply stores.Might help the bottoms last longer. Great story today, as all days.💐💐

    Hey Sandi,
    Thanks for sharing.
Here is what I would do with the feeder:
    1. Turn it over and cut all the rusted parts out.
    2. Weld a new bottom on to it, cut away every thing that has rust on .
    3. Paint the whole thing with 2 coats of primer and a nice top coat or two that is safe for animals.
Go over all the welds with a steel brush, Zinc paint over the welds. Rust spreads like a cancer.
I would not wrap the leg, I would clean it and spray it with antibiotic spray and give her an NSAID For 3-5 days. the wound is better left out in the open air, will heal quicker.
The crook is my best friend.
    As for the welds:
I keep a few extra gates around to replace while I fix the broken ones.
I would not use that mesh, alittle larger so hooves don't get caught. We do not use Mesh fences at all, too fragile for sheep to our taste, we use steel pipes welded in sort of rung fashion, sort of like your wood gates.
As for the hinges: it's a good idea to drill through the wall and have the bolts go right through with a bracket on the other side of the wall. Sheep tend to rub, but, push in to gates and stuff.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks again for sharing.
    Good luck.

Sandi, substitute a roll of wire for the twine . I've always called it mechanics wire or black wire . I cut twice as much length as I need and double it . Just twist the ends where you'd have a knot . A simple pair of side cutters will get it off if needed but if you can undo it it's reusable .

I would pop rivet a section of round galvanized duct pipe like you use for HVAC to repair your feeder. It's already round, comes split, and is rustproof. Cheap fix. Don't know if the zinc used in the galvanizing process would be a factor though. Great Channel. I really enjoy it.

You can cut out the old metal and weld a new piece in. You might be able to clean and sand the current metal and get some fiberglass kid and bondo fiberglass resin kit from an auto parts store. Its a little messy but it would be really smooth for the feed. Cutting it out and welding it is the best option and welding a new sheet is the best.

The high School near a friend of mine had drive through graduation... Parents drove in and the students got out of the car, wearing a mask and walked up to a stage and got their dipomas. The stage was right to the side of the cars so the student's parents could take pictures from their car...

Re the lamb with the broken leg. Many humans take time to regain strength and movement as well as control of broken limbs so there is hope for the lamb. We also need to remember the lamb is growing and may have had a muscle, ligament or tendon pinched or compressed. I wonder if dome massage in the upper leg would help?

Tim from Canada if you have a barn full of Lambs and you were having a hard time finding one then the best thing to do is use a coloured spray paint on their back and one mark on each side so you can find it until you can figure out what you want to do with it.. use a colour that does not correlate with what you have already been using you as an odd colour with each lamb you are using this way you can keep track of them because in the pen everyone looks the same same with the colour paint use a different colour or a design that works

You need to cover the hoof so what you need to do is put a small tab in the front of the foot then go around it so it stays in place do it again and continue up to leg you want it to be where hay and gunk can't get stuck in the hoof and it will stay clean and don't rap it too tight you can ask your vet if you think I'm wrong but they are going to tell you the same thing.

    Sandi -
Thank you for yet another great video!!!
I'm looking forward to your collaboration with Belinda!! I'll be waiting for more details, like:
    - contents
    - cost
    - will you be able to ship to the US
You take such good care of all your animals!! I truly hope those ewes make a full recovery.
One thing you could do, which would help to keep your rams safe in the pasture across the road......a donkey! I'm not sure what it is exactly about donkeys but the are a type of livestock guardian. Maybe borrow Belinda's for a test run?? Another collaboration!! Lol. The donkey would protect your rams from coyotes. I cannot wait to see that project, start to finish, getting everything ready for the rams moving across the road.
Best of luck always, Sandi!!! Please keep up the great work, both with the animals and the videos!! Thank you!!
