They can be but they want everything to be to code. Health and safety must be met. The homes often will last a lot longer than buildings in other nations though.

The oak framing is beautiful, but there's almost too much of it. The windows in the front are quite small, and as mentioned in other comments, inside and out the house is very beige and bland. That being said, this is their house, not mine, and it's just the way they want it, so congratulations to them!

Unremarkable, bland beige. The lack of creativity and character is astounding given the resources.
