Got an AV60 - not 100% happy with the sounds but it is giggable in small venues. Changed the preamp tube to a 12AT7 and the speaker to an Eminence Texas Heat - OMG! This thing is now the best amp I have ever heard. From metal overdriven growls to bluesy crunch to clean jazz and ambient - it's now in a class of its own. There are no dull spots in the sonic and dynamic range - where there was before. Still not a fan of the H.Gain 1 and OD2. I'm going to try a Genalex Gold Pin 12AX7 in the amp stage - they're supposed to be a quieter tube - to reduce that white noise sounds at higher sound levels. And time permitting I'll look into their "proprietary bass reflex" which is only a front hole cutout. OK ok it's a long way from the amp I bought but I like tinkering and in this case the result is wow! Oh and it looks awesome - much better than an ugly old dude like myself.
Thanks for the great review. Awesome sounding amp and I actually didn't mind the higher gain sounds... Also, Kiana is the perfect straight man for your silliness Henning!
I like this form of review. You have a mad scientist complete with accent and the lovely assistant who is also a novice guitar player. Very welcoming format. I may have over thought this
The gain is the best thing about this amp, I can't find any overdrives like the heaviest gain setting on the AV30. I love the complex break up stuff going on, but it's not a metal amp at all, I agree (if your metal needs to sound like everyone elses). I think this amp will be sought after one day because of the breakup sounds. I have an AV30, but I'm getting an AV60 also, and.. I sold my Vox Bruno all tube amp when I got the AV30. It's great for Free Jazz, noisy experimental stuff, or if you don't need to be stuck to the norms of overdrive/ distortion. All other amps I've tried seem fairly boring in the gain section compared. Not knocking any other amps, but I love this amp for the same reasons he hates it. Great amp. The fender 68 custom deluxe reverb is the other great amp i recommend for any type of Jazz.
To be honest I think that high gain fuzz out is pretty cool, it has a bite to it, but I can see why that's an issue if that's all it does with high gain.
Just a PSA for those who come across this video in the future: pushing the gain is not the way to get the best out of this amp on the OD models. You need to dial the gain back to around half, crank the channel volume, and use the power attenuator for the volume control. You also need to pay attention to the Top Boost, Bias, and Valve Reactor. Those will change the sound of each amp channel, especially when you have the channel volume cranked, because that volume signal is what will saturate the 2nd tube, which is functioning as a power section for the tone channel before before being pushed to the output for volume amplification.
+EytschPi42 +Henning Pauly I'm gonna get serious with a piece of directorial advice (if you'll permit): Kiana is there to tweak you and cut some of your antics down to size. Her reality helps ground your reality in that of another person (indeed, a "critic") which works well for the audience. But when you makes jokes at Kiana's expense it so does NOT work. For one, she's a woman and she's young; she lacks authority in your domain; and she lacks the great wealth of experience you have. So please don't diminish Kiana in jest, it's a comic device that can't work. Having her there to attack your foibles = brilliant! Thank you.
+EytschPi42 Yes, she does an excellent and accomplished job of presenting with you, I also think she's extremely brave in playing guitar along side you. I don't disagree or agree with the other comments as I think a bit of banter which can be at your expense or Kiana's brings some pleasant lightheartedness and humour to your videos.
I have to agree with Ron. Kiana looked nervous as soon as she started playing guitar. It's great to have her with you but don't bust on her too much. Other than that, great videos Henning. Best...
I understand and can appreciate your point, ideologically speaking. However, if you observe the social interaction you'll notice gender has quite a lot to do with it.
every time you do a wide angle shot of your studio my jaw drops. would love to record there someday, looks so comfortable and like it serves as a very productive work space. Very very awesome
thanks that you clearly pointed out the high gain problems! every review i have seen yet was hyping this amp. but when i played the av15 at mid gain setting i first thought it was broken or maybe a problem with the single tube version. but it was the same on the av30. i was really a bit dissapointed because i loved the clean and crunch sounds for bedroom practise... honest and reliable review as always. way to go!
Don't know what ur talking about. This is a great vintage sounding amp. Learn how to use the EQ and gain. This sounds more authentic to a tube amp than any digital so what gives with you winers. You just can't win. This is a horrible recording of this amp. Check out rob chapman's review and then you'll think twice about the high gain. This reviewer obviously did not dial this amp in well. Also put some good pedals in front of it and your set!!!
spada60 i saw chapman's review and it sounded horrible in it... just as horrible as in real life. I know what a tube amp sounds like and it doesn't sound like that... no EQ can fix this.
it's nothing about the eq, it is more a problem with the distorsion itself. reminds me a bit of how a cranked fuzz handles the bass frequencies. if you experienced it yourself and know what to look out for you can hear it in chappers videos too. also i wouldn't recommend to buy an amp where you first have to put pedals in front to make it sound alright.
I have once gigged with my VOX ad30vt, solid state 12" speaker. It struggled. The cleans are great, but the distortion sounds like someone is crushing a bag of crisps to a microphone :D
The high gain sounds being lacking something to be desired is not much of a shocker. Vox is known for its cleans and low to moderate gain sounds (Brian May's thunderous rhythm tones and sweet lead tones are not high gain but definitely more than a crunch). Until they come out with a highly respect amp designed specifically for the metal players out there with a great high gain channel that is more than an afterthought; you'll probably never see their modelling amps pull of high gain of the same quality of their cleans and crunch to mid gain sounds.
Interesting that you stressed the transistor technology whereas other reviews emphasize that is a valve amp. Good solid review and it is true that these kind of amps do better on the clean side of things. I own a Vox Valvestate amp and I love the clean settings, not so much the really high-gain sounds, but then I am not really a high-gain kind of guy. Henning I really enjoy your off the wall sense of humour. Sort of like us Canadians a little passive-aggressive. Based on one of your reviews I ended up buying the Joyo American Sound pedals. I love it and one of my pedal snob friends has been using it alongside of his boutique pedals and he can't believe the sound and build quality and of course the "price". Keep the videos coming.
From what I have seen in other videos the More Heavy stuff sounds better with Guitars that have Humbuckers. I don't think I have ever seen an amp that reacts so much differently based on Pickup type, including full tube amps. I know VOX as a brand tends to be favored by Fender players but once you get into the top 3 or 4 amps those single coil pickups just feel out of control with the higher gain levels in those amp styles on this combo.
Hey Guys, Whats up with the over reaction? You can tell they are friends and are both comfortable with the loose talk! Lighten up! C'mon man, I kinda like that look she gives him like she's about to stick an ice pick in his ear!!
Its not a solid state amp, the pre-amp goes through a valve and the channel power goes through a valve, the solid state part is at the last stage into the speaker, I've watch 5 reviews and none of the reviewers read the 5 page explanation of what the amp is, or what the dip switches do, for reference the dip switch labelled more makes it more dynamic, something no reviewer on numerous pro channels seemed to know.
great video but got just one doubt ...between the AV30 n' AV60 which one is the best for recording in a studio , NOT FOR A GIG only for recording in a studio the 10" speaker or 12" speaker ?? well I'll appreciate someone reply me ..t-you bye =)
U are so right. Just got this amp and on high gain its like...crackly. I cant dial it out. Its in the headphones too. The two high gain presets need gain set below half, well below,at zero gain they are very overdriven so any added gain gets not so good. I maybtake it back for the code 50 which I also took back. But the cleans, AC 30 is soo good. Tough decision.
Not a metal-amp for sure, but maybe the choice for beginners like me, who have vintage tones on their minds at an affordable price and who don´t want to mess around with thousands of possible modelling sounds which steal playing-time. Plug and play, right? Thank you for your honest reviews, Henning: Lots of guys on youtube doing musical reviews just suck doing bullshit. What you´re doing is absolutely great sounding, experienced and truthful work! On the AV30 I´ve missed the sound when it was driven by an overdrive or distortion pedal. However, Your videos are sometimes real blockbusters to me, keep on testing, testing, testing...
YAY!!!! Great Vid & Review All round. :-) THANKS. I'm going to Purchase the Big Brother: the VOX AV60. For Jamming & Practicing. btw: KIANA ROCKS, YES INDEED!!!! It's Very Subtle and Well Hidden; But, She has a LOT OF POWER & ENERGY just Waiting to ROCK OUT!!!! TALENT, BRAINS, GREAT HUMOR, & BEAUTY TOO: WOW!!!! Keep these TWO TEAM VIDS COMING,.... Wes
I just got the Vox AV30. Great sounding little amp, loud enough to gig with. I'm only a bit concerned about the 120hz hum when flipping the reactor switch. There is also a lot of white noise when playing on higher volumes. Is this normal?
I just got one and was told that that’s kinda just how the reactor switch works. It’s not on or off, it’s either modern, which is noiseless, or its vintage, which has the extra noise. I personally like the sound of the vintage, but I am also troubled my the hum.
So the 5 selector footswitch will allow you to switch between the 2 channels AND turn on/off the 3 effects as needed? I haven't been able to find any info that says it does all that with this particular amp. You manually turned them on/off in this vid, so I need confirmation. Thanks for all the videos!
Wow! The Overdrives are awesome!! Almost like all tubes n not just hybrids 👍👍👍 I don't do real heavy stuffs but I do love juicy gains. Your Torpedo makes it sound too dark n dull for me, not sharp n trebly.
First time that I've watched this channel is quite a while - hmmm, pretty easy to see why people like Kiana being on the channel to take away from antics of Henning. Maybe we should conduct a poll??? LOL
Do you think the high gains sounds are lacking because of the amp or the presets? In other words do you think it could sound better with some kind of pedal setup? And do you think the 1x12 av60 would have the same issues? Many questions I know but you seem to be the only person that's actually addressing these aspects of these amps.
@EitschPy42 how do you like the Teleman? I am interested in buying one. How is it in comparison of a Fender AVRI Tele oder Standard US Tele? I am looking for that powerful classic rock sound like Rolling Stones etc.
It is a great guitar and I think it might be superior to what Fender has to offer... I have a new Fender Professional Tele on the way.. I can tell you more next week!
I'd say the reason the amp doesn't sound good on the high gain is because that tele copy you are using. Totally wrong pickups for that style. I've seen the same issue with tele style guitars on class a amps like BadCat .etc
Hi Henning, for AC/DC or GN'R sound which would you recommend? This (or maybe the AV60) or the VTX series? I can't really choose between the AV60 or VT100X. I know the differences but both have pros and cons.
+EytschPi42 Hi! I just bought this amp and I hear that slight hum/buzz when turned on (nothing connected and all controls to minimum). It seems your unit does the same on the video. Is this normal? I was starting to think it was faulty.
I had same issue with mine, then changed the room it was in for an unrelated reason and the noise went away...I think this amp is pretty sensitive to outside interference
I assume Kiana is German but speaks with a British accent because her mother is British? It's nice. Not a Vox fan but she makes this video very enjoyable to watch.
Great review - just wondering for bedroom/home use, does the AV preform and sound better than the VT40x? I am leaning towards the VT40x due to the effects and features you get with it but am not able to go to store and try them both out. Thanks
The new boss katana amp will kill the sales of AV amps because it has lots of effects , great sounds and storable patches plus it's cheaper , I have the AV 60 as a rehearsal amp and this is it's let down, effects don't turn of with channel switch so lots of pushing buttons , the 60 is far better sounding .
i tried the av15/30, blackstars ht-1 and the thr10 head to head at my local music store just a few weeks ago (through speaker and headphone out). in terms of clean and crunch the av sounded warmest and roundest to me. the ht1 would be a good choice for higher gain settings. the thr is very versatile and sits somewhere in between. its probably the best allrounder. but of course that's just my impression...
I must say this amp seemed to has a lot of hiss ,so I will not be letting my YHR 10C go any time soon :-) the THR10C it's a great home amp and can down load new sounds if required
You're a better guitar player than you will admit to, but - Kiana! Maybe a little bit too cranked up on caffeine for live beginner guitar instruction too! She's giving you "the look" - you need to watch out for "the look" - that means you messed up.
I finally bought one an I love it: Not a metal-beast, but very versatile tones for blues and rock,. It takes overdrive-pedals well and sounds awesome, even at the OD-channels played with a Les Paul-style guitar. Well done, Vox! Why not compare to other professional reviewers? Watch Andertons´video: ua-cam.com/video/aQ4ZK-ut9Ck/v-deo.html
So ein wenig masochistisch muss Kiana ja schon veranlagt sein, sich zu dir in die Videos zu trauen. ;-) Aber das ist okay, nur keine Angst. Mit der Erfahrung kommen Selbstvertrauen und Sicherheit.
I do not understand this channel the "EytschPi42" channel. Is this a "Gay" channel" Is he gay, does he realize he comes off as totally friendly but Queer? Is he providing a home for these woman? Are they lesbians? Are they taking advantage of him? So may questions. But it's just the way he is presenting the channel. I'm not trying to be mean to him but I guess it may certainly seem so.
From what you say, Henning, I’m the target consumer for this amp: I’m well “of age” and wanted to buy a living room practice amp for playing clean tones with just a bit of overdrive or crunch. I also needed something that shines at extremely low volume levels and/or with a wonderful sounding headphone output (so as not to annoy the neighbors). To keep both cost and volume level down, I was considering both the Vox AV15 and Blackstar HT-1R combo but didn’t have the benefit of testing either. So, it was a tough choice going in blind. The Vox seems a versatile practice amp with very good sounding clean and crunchy tones and some tube character. There were ample promotional videos online but little in the way of legitimate reviews (thank you for yours). The HT-1R is a very well reviewed tube amp with a nice warm clean tone and lots of crunch on tap. Headphones operate on an emulated speaker output. Ultimately what sold me on the Blackstar (again, no personal experience with either amp) was integrity of design both in concept and execution, simplicity of operation and the emulated output. Looks didn’t hurt either, as the Vox looks a bit like a massive plastic lunchbox (and what's with grandma's cloth grille?) while the Blackstar has the solid, substantial look of real leather, chrome and tolex. So far I love my new HT-1R with the exception of not being able to crank the volume without heaping on a sizable dose of gain to boost it. Without reviewers like you we'd never know what to buy, so thank you.
she is too good. did you tell her that when you throw some nice licks down to just get a look like she had a pet spider in her mouth that she was afraid to release? the guy at the end of the video, was that Mark? did you throw a pick at him? :}
The reason I dislike you is the public persona you display, foul language plus your attitude to down syndrome people as displayed in your broadcasts, you obviously don't appreciate the benefits of critique, finally the last remark regarding the uk was a tongue in cheek statement
Dude, you need a new Kiana, except this time go blonde. Blondes are less likely to understand while more likely to actually be successful guitar players. Did I just say that? Oh yeah... I just did. : )
Kiana...blink twice if your being held captive....
She's doing good
these are discontinued

Man that studio is like a dream
Yeah!

I don't disagree or agree with the other comments as I think a bit of banter which can be at your expense or Kiana's brings some pleasant lightheartedness and humour to your videos.
Well put. I totally agree.
I have to agree with Ron. Kiana looked nervous as soon as she started playing guitar. It's great to have her with you but don't bust on her too much. Other than that, great videos Henning. Best...
I understand and can appreciate your point, ideologically speaking. However, if you observe the social interaction you'll notice gender has quite a lot to do with it.
yes I only want to see your video's if Kiana is in them.
every time you do a wide angle shot of your studio my jaw drops. would love to record there someday, looks so comfortable and like it serves as a very productive work space. Very very awesome
Yeah Eastern Europe, the post-Soviet economy is booming, yet space is cheap and living standards are high.
the best part of the video is Kiana and the cute mouse at the end of the video.
thanks that you clearly pointed out the high gain problems! every review i have seen yet was hyping this amp. but when i played the av15 at mid gain setting i first thought it was broken or maybe a problem with the single tube version. but it was the same on the av30. i was really a bit dissapointed because i loved the clean and crunch sounds for bedroom practise... honest and reliable review as always. way to go!

Please review roland blues cube.

GOOD demo you 2.
My Puppy loved watching your Polecat at the end. She got excited to see this new, weird animal she's never seen before!
Why would you play single coil telecaster to test the high gain sections?
I have once gigged with my VOX ad30vt, solid state 12" speaker. It struggled. The cleans are great, but the distortion sounds like someone is crushing a bag of crisps to a microphone :D
The high gain sounds being lacking something to be desired is not much of a shocker. A good amp for doing that Rolling Stones sound
And that's exactly why this is on my list with either the DSL1CR or V5 Infinium.
Interesting that you stressed the transistor technology whereas other reviews emphasize that is a valve amp. she always looks like she's thinking WTF !!
Does Kiana have her own youtube/IG channel? Would love to see her progress since this video! How is she doing?
i guess this would be perfect for a john mayer sound, right??
From what I have seen in other videos the More Heavy stuff sounds better with Guitars that have Humbuckers.

Another cool video with humour and a sweet amp. I agree 100% on the review. I will say this, Kiana has fingers like a piano player. :)

elmero mero frankly, I wouldn't use this amp for recording, there are much better options out there for that.
Trade in my Vox Valvetronix AD50VT for the AV30 this week. Very happy with my new purchase.
This or one of the vtx series
I'm aware there are many gigging situations and maybe the VT40X can adapt?

Put an ibanez tube screamer on it, sounds fantastic on my 2015 Gibson SG special with my VOX AV30!
Wow!
The Overdrives are awesome!!
Almost like all tubes n not just hybrids 👍👍👍
I don't do real heavy stuffs but I do love juicy gains.

The AV 60 is a whole different beast and the one to buy .
That girl would rather be anywhere in the world than right there, lol.

And do you think the 1x12 av60 would have the same issues? Many questions I know but you seem to be the only person that's actually addressing these aspects of these amps.
The 60 Sounds the same... it's just the nature of this transistor distortion.
Hello...
I need some help..what is the footswitch used for this amplicador?
Thank´s!!
did you play the VOX AV15 too?is it worth buy the VT15 as practice amp only . has it the same good sound like the VT30?
I would like to hear that amp against the amps that it models... Like against a fender or AC30 or whatever else it models...
Pls review that cute ferret.
Hey EytschPi42, does the AV30 or AV60 take pedals well?
That's a 30W amp, that was meant to be a 50W amp. 100 is too much 20 is too little 30 is "omg, so close!"...50 IS JUST FUCKING RIGHT, BITCHES!
@EitschPy42 how do you like the Teleman? I am interested in buying one. How is it in comparison of a Fender AVRI Tele oder Standard US Tele? I am looking for that powerful classic rock sound like Rolling Stones etc.

definitely VT
+EytschPi42 Hi! I just bought this amp and I hear that slight hum/buzz when turned on (nothing connected and all controls to minimum). It seems your unit does the same on the video. Is this normal? I was starting to think it was faulty.
How loud is it?
I had same issue with mine, then changed the room it was in for an unrelated reason and the noise went away...I think this amp is pretty sensitive to outside interference
I assume Kiana is German but speaks with a British accent because her mother is British? It's nice. Not a Vox fan but she makes this video very enjoyable to watch.
Kiana is not German. she's half Asian half British.
Cool. It's a very nice combination!
Great review - just wondering for bedroom/home use, does the AV preform and sound better than the VT40x? I am leaning towards the VT40x due to the effects and features you get with it but am not able to go to store and try them both out. Thanks
get the vt40x... it has many usable Sounds And the av30 doesn't sound great when distorted.
@@EytschPi42
Saw your video on vt40x and it's way beyond the av30 in tone. It sounds great...I just bought vt20x just because of your vt40x video.
Hey can someone help me? Which vox series is better AV or VTX?
vox AV but the 60 watts .. not this 30.. VTX lacks FX LOOP.. good luck ..
AV are analog and vtx are digital. It depends no which you like better.

By 2022 the V xx series has gone....
Awesome review!! Quick question, what kind of strap were you using on the first guitar featured in the videos?
DiMarzio Clip Lock
+Slowhand47 thanks!!!
Another Kiana guitarist cool!! =)
I clicked on this video thinking it was going to be you :)
Great as always! Speaker is FRFR?
Advertising with Kiana, that's...a good idea, actually. :p
enought for small gigs in bar or rehearsals ? (with drummer / blues/rock/hard rock ) thanks guys !
can it do metal
Does it beat the Yamaha THR10?
i tried the av15/30, blackstars ht-1 and the thr10 head to head at my local music store just a few weeks ago (through speaker and headphone out). in terms of clean and crunch the av sounded warmest and roundest to me. the ht1 would be a good choice for higher gain settings. the thr is very versatile and sits somewhere in between. its probably the best allrounder. but of course that's just my impression...
I must say this amp seemed to has a lot of hiss ,so I will not be letting my YHR 10C go any time soon :-) the THR10C it's a great home amp and can down load new sounds if required
Not comparable.
so, are those students?...I'm curious how Kianas playing has progressed?
Kiana seems to have lost interest for now.
You're a better guitar player than you will admit to, but - Kiana! Maybe a little bit too cranked up on caffeine for live beginner guitar instruction too! She's giving you "the look" - you need to watch out for "the look" - that means you messed up.
Your trying to hard my old mate, just review the amp.
+Gerard Haughey You apostrophe RE, not "your"

is that a joe Perry les paul?
les paul by harley benton
Who let the dogs out?
Kiana has the "Melania Trump Look" nailed. That being said, she needs her own You Tube Channel. I would subscribe...
Jan Brenner Hey, how is the built in delay?? Is it usable?
this amp is discontinued
This guy must be her guitar teacher.
I love you Kiana
its uncomfortable to watch him constantly degrade her. terrible person. why are you on UA-cam?
Pull your skirt up Nancy, she is laughing while you are crying for her... idiot. Men like you are more demeaning to women then the clown in the video.
he's not degraging her shut the fuck up.
@@ravenjames3873 Foff, Big Blues is correct.
So ein wenig masochistisch muss Kiana ja schon veranlagt sein, sich zu dir in die Videos zu trauen. ;-)
Aber das ist okay, nur keine Angst. Mit der Erfahrung kommen Selbstvertrauen und Sicherheit.
Does anyone know her insta handle
As long as Kiana keeps bending down like that I'll be happy to keep watching this video :) :p
Rizzles thought 'twas only me..haha lols

What kind of drugs do you give to your guests???
Avoid sharig anything but weed, bro. Brains get freezed otherwise.
Carl Martin amp spotted!
I miss Kiana
I just viewed this. Are you serious?? Your trying to play metal with a Tele?????????
Oh, Kiana, my darling, patience is a virtue ;)
So hot! The amp... eh
As always a great review - you are a great youtuber. But your skills in terms of beeing a guitar teacher seem to be limited ;-)
Leslie is in the background checking out Kiana quietly. Uh oh!
PeterDad60 nope, not gay at all, just friendly!
lmao
Without reviewers like you we'd never know what to buy, so thank you.
she is too good. did you tell her that when you throw some nice licks down to just get a look like she had a pet spider in her mouth that she was afraid to release? the guy at the end of the video, was that Mark? did you throw a pick at him? :}
the amp sounds shit but Hennie is gold
I wonder why she agrees to be treated like that.... Something is not right here... 🤔
we’re friends and we make fun of each other... whatever you are seeing here is clearly YOUR issue, not ours
@@EytschPi42 where is kiana? you havent put her in a video for a long time
nice potatoes
WTF is a 'Wox AV30' ?
Why is this kid in the the video?
While she is so lovely, she is giving all the signs of someone being held hostage. Yummy Hostage.
i think your stupid Tim
Strange comedy show
The reason I dislike you is the public persona you display, foul language plus your attitude to down syndrome people as displayed in your broadcasts, you obviously don't appreciate the benefits of critique, finally the last remark regarding the uk was a tongue in cheek statement
Dude, you need a new Kiana, except this time go blonde.
Blondes are less likely to understand while more likely to actually be successful guitar players.
Did I just say that?
Oh yeah... I just did.
: )
Hi, kiana! Don't think! Feel...
